São Paulo (like ANY major city) is not a place you want to go visiting without guidance. That does not mean the city in general is unsafe. Plenty of safe spots and places you can go and have your phone out without any concerns. But he went to the Sé Cathedral, a place well known for its violence and highest homeless population in the city BY HIMSELF. The most popular tourist states in Brazil have a huge problem with daylight robbery, either by just taking phones away or at gunpoint if you're in a car, for example. Me and most locals don't feel safe walking around with their phones out in the street, even if briefly, and tourists tend to be targeted more since it's assumed they're richer than the average Brazilian. I heard stories of some of them even being kidnapped to give access to their bank details and such. It varies from city to city, of course, but that still doesn't discount the fact it's a huge systematic problem here. I hope Drew is able to remedy the situation in the near future, and hopefully more people learn about these risks and spread awareness about it outside Brazil.
@T1_TilapiaАй бұрын
Also one thing I forgot to point out: Try to order Uber and such while inside a building, and start walking out when they're getting closer, to avoid having to check the app while outside a building (But be careful to not let the Uber driver wait too long). And if possible, try to stick to groups and crowded places while in public. It doesn't guarantee you'll be safe, but it makes thieves think twice about trying to attack a group.

So much of our lives now are dependent on having a phone, so having it stolen is legitimately terrifying for a lot of people. Getting confirmation texts, primary and secondary emails, messages and contact information... you have almost everything available on there and as such it would be very easy for someone to ruin your life this way. Brazil is not a good place to visit. And I am Brazilian. Please dont come here. It is not safe and where he went (this church) is where drug user live and where they buy the drug. His cellphone has now been turned into 2 stones of crack. We love you modbeast. Nice to see you well.

It’s just how the world is man. People don’t understand that life is completely different in other countries. If you’re a foreigner in a place like Brazil, you have a target on your back.

Thats so f'd up. I see those videos of bait phones and how quick these people are when they go for it. Many parts of Brazil and middle east are rife with these incidents. Hope he doesn't lose too much and can recover most of it. Most of all, I hope those thieves are caught however difficult that may be

I love Drew, he is a really cool guy, what happened to him is really sad and I wish him the best But it's also sad to see people bashing Brazil saying it's a terrible country when things like that can happen in every single country specially if you go somewhere that is "a dangerous area" alone and don't speak the language I was born in São Paulo but I hate going there, specifically the center of the city is notorious for being a terrible place to be at, if he asked anyone where he should go, everyone would say the center is terrible and recommend something that is safer like MASP (museum of São paulo). I wish him the best and hope he stays well

as someone who lived in Brazil for half his life, if u ever go there again dont take your personal phone out of the hotel, just buy a cheap one for travelling. But not too cheap or they might unalive you.

I'm Brazilian, but I'm living in Spain now and I can say: you need to be very careful in Brazil, it doesn't even compare to the other places I've been, people will rob you. He was in "praça da Sé" in São Paulo, this is a particularly dangerous place, even I, who used to live in SP, don't like walking in that place. It's a shame though, Brazil is a such a cool place, but very dangerous if you don't know stuff :/

On the bright side for K'Sante players at least Riot hasn't tossed him into the "nerf into literal unplayable state until we can get around to a full rework sometime around 2205."

As a Brazilian we do warn people of exactly that all the time, best thing you can do is have a throw away phone and never walk by yourself if you are not familiar with the place, brazil is a beautiful place with incredible people, but it isn't the safest place(you are all more than welcome here, but please be safe people).

I remember catching up Midbeast mid stream a day or two before, people asked if he explored the city or not, and he replied something like: "Not yet. I'll sound like that guy, but I want to walk around on my own, even though people say I should have someone experienced around." Oh well.
