The Shocking State of PoE 3.24 Necropolis League

Very few exiles are playing the most recent Path of Exile 1 expansion, Necropolis, and it is seen by many as the worst league in the history of POE, beating out Archnemesis and the Lake of Kalandra. What are people saying about this Path of Exile patch, why do I think it may be performing poorly, and how exactly Grinding Gear Games may play their hand with Path of Exile's next expansion, 3.25. Oh and yeah, PoE 2 is still on the way.
Stay sane in the comments, fellow totally sane exiles.

Let’s put it this way…I casually played archnemesis till the last week. Necropolis…I did 3 days and went back to playing bench ssf ruthless casually playing my 1-2 hours daily. I want to play and kill stuff plain and simple, I don’t want to craft in a league that requires excel sheets and stopping the action and not being able to turn the mechanic on and off is a huge turn off for me.

To be honest Necropolis crafting is pretty easy because of the community input. But buying them is terrible. I did a couple of profit crafts in the first 2 weeks. Did I make a lot of money? Yes. Did i question my sanity? Yes. They've added bulk buying but it still sucks because you need a corpse with correct type (humanoid, undead etc.). I remember that I needed beast reduced mana x3 and I think I had to bulk buy around 40 because everyone was selling undeads... They should have just ditched mob types completely and it would be pretty easy and pleasurable craft most items

The main problem with the league is not even the necroplis mechanic itself (which most players skip anyway), it is the changes to the base game: - T17 maps have even more screen clutter than fully juiced T16s and some are borderline unplayable, instead of being more challenging -Too many scarabs to pick up, basically the most click intensive league overall -Allflame currency drops do not stack, which is insane in a league where they pushed so many QOL changes

Agree on everything except that, no, you cannot skip the necropolis mechanic and it is also a main problem with this current league. It is forced on you every zone and every map and every annoying corpse popup that permanently blocks part of your screen in an already bloated UI. Builds don't feel near as powerful as they used to and defenses feel paper thin purely due to the added necropolis monster modifiers in zones, which hilariously just excelerates the power creep issue they harp on about every nerf session since everyone is trying to solve these added on annoying problems (seriously why the fuck should monsters be able to have 90% evade or 8% life regen a second on top of their already super annoying defenses?). Contrarily, if the league mechanic had been optional this whole time, then at least you could make the argument that you can just not interact and play pseudo-standard league but with the benefit of a new league trade market and that would have very likely kept the retention slightly higher, though not by much.

For me it’s all the other changes that made me stop caring: T17, mostly only one farmable strategy, nerfs to essences making it even harder to make money for beginners, sextants being now allflames,the mess with scarabs where you have mostly no control over which ones drop and 3/4 of em being useless, the fifth map device spot being needed more than ever is locked behind T17, maps that force you to be stuck with only few builds which is killing variety that once was the strongest point of PoE. They go against all the things that made PoE great - choice, freedom and variety.

Hey Tri and chat, I've been playing a lot of PoE the last year I got my sister to play at the start of crucble league, in which we learned the campaign. In Ancestor league we mainly played the league mechanic and that's what hooked her. I was already fully committed. Affiliction cemented the love for the game. I was so good for story and progression! We completed part of the game in affliction that we(I) had not touched before. She was asking me to play during affliction(Im 2500hr in she is 400hrs). Necropolis league, we were both excited at the theme but...didn't like it being forced, wondered why it wasn't a toggle like maven for maps. and honestly just decided there wasn't enough story or fun to be had so we ditched it pretty close to the start of the league, sad but true. We are just waiting for the next league in hopes of "better" what every that may mean

When I first played the league, I got a haunted modifier with the ice-projectile "nagas" or whatever in ACT 1 as a new player and rage quit for a few days. I think that for new players, you can get soft-lock modifiers (for a newbie) in progression-zones and that's going to make newcomers ragequit. New players don't know all the ins and outs of what they can do, and they can get bs fisted by random modifiers that take advantage of holes in their noobie builds and leave. _If not just strait up bypass your defenses for ~3x+ "effective damage"..._ The swinginess of one zone that is complete brain off and the next having tripled projectiles, of which that so happen to apply poison, can lead to a lot of _random_ frustration. I think it can make the game confusing, jarring and inconsistent with the mood and pacing. At least until you've spent a total time on the wiki or POB of over 20 hours. Once they feel like they've learned most stuff about the game, they might get bored and leave too.

i just felt that in necro league, i played catch up. i tried so damn hard to catch up to the economy with my limited player experience and i just got swept by the more experienced players. i just didnt have fun at all, i spent everything trying to catch up that i didnt have any time to just, enjoy the game? literally nothing was worth it to farm and i just couldn't enjoy my build at all since it was boring to play one character and literally no other builds that i wanted to try out was viable without some amount of currency needed to be put in that i just dropped the game and stopped playing for a month and counting. i just wish i had fun but as a middle player, i really couldn't. Seeing others getting 50 divines by a exploit they found out to then be nerfed and the middle players cant even try it was just so unfun to see, i felt like the game was just saying to me every day i got on; "get off bro, its not worth the time", and true to what the game was telling to me, i got off and enjoyed my life a lot more, playing games that actually respected my time playing them.

I think everybody can joy tier 17 maps if they droop 2 mirrors or 500+ divines in league start. Cuz is what at least they need to make a build able to make this maps. If people just start play later in the league because of real work issues and need of free time to play like I have, and when they nerf all stuff that make get easy and fast currency and you only get 11 divines droops in 500+ tier 16 maps with 8 mods like me you are very piss of for sure.

Yes and no. Delirium + Beyond + altars + allflames/any other league mechanic/div cards is really nice strat. Very clear focused, very adjustable on the juice side, very adjustable on the mechanics part. While farming purely 1 mechanic could be more profitable (in quite rare cases), this strat is quite profitable as well and you can choose any league mechanic you want to play, since most mechanics synergise well with Delirium + Beyond.

Gotta say this is a ton of fun. The grave crafting is very powerful. It needs major qol. The all flames are fun, the map modifiers are good. I play SSF and SSF chat is always active. It's all about the trade league and whack a mole patching why numbers are bad. To fix grave crafting they should just make them drop as items like incubators. They should stack and take up one slot and drop like a regular item so it can be filtered with your loot filter. And they need a UI in graveyard that works like all the out of game planners. Other than that league was great.

@@iamforsaken2008 I'm having a good time playing. The grave mechanic is the only major pain point and it could be easily fixed. The main reason the league died is because they mid league patched all the broken economic strats after people abused them. I'm SSF so that shit didn't bother me but trade players got major fomo and the early league economy was messed up because of that. Everyone hated harvest league too and then freaked out when it didn't go core which caused a rift between the community and ggg. Crafting leagues are hit or miss for people to start and then they botched the first month with patching. I think the league would be doing fine if they didn't fuck it up so bad
@muchospendechos
@muchospendechos Ай бұрын
@@xXVintersorgXx Not everyone hated harvest. I really enjoyed it. Was in my eyes one of the best leagues ever, cause even as a noob you were able to make up for it and reach your preferred item, with the right modifiers at some point, without ignoring any other crafting possibility completely. Here you have tedious trading combined with everything harvest was hated for and the possibility to just craft mirror tier items with ease. No need for any other crafting except of corpse crafting. They made this league in so many regards bad and as you said fucked it even more with fixing exploits a few days after, that people which made chars for it were just fucked right in the leveling phase. While all the people which used the exploits and had made tons of currency and items were not taking accountable for it. So they had early on a huge monopoly, which just completely annihilated the middle class of players. Otherwise the game had nothing much of new stuff to offer except of nerfs and build limitizations which made the league itself a pain and not really fun. Especially if you wanted to compete in T17 maps which are a mess itself.

I tried PoE (SSF) many times, and I bounced every single time. Maybe that's a skill issue, maybe a lack of dedication (frickin' lot of hours farming next upgrade), but I was never able to defeat all the regular bosses (forget about ubers). It has nothing to do with necropolis league, for that matter. If I have time I prefer to do a single mission with fellow Helldivers. If I want some ARPG, I would probably choose LE.

i think one thing that discouraged a lot of people was seeing in the first days all the zoomers exploit (take advantage of?) all the scarabs/changes. we saw video after video of absurd amounts of loot being gained and then the strat being nerfed into the ground before the vast majority of us could ever come close to trying it. it just felt really bad and it also nuked the economy. i got my first headhunter to drop and when i saw the price on trade i literally thought awakened poe trade was glitched the price was so low. i never see this reason mentioned, but poor game performance was also a small factor for me. i'm computer illiterate but they did something in the last days of affliction that ruined performance for a lot of players. from what i read it was supposed to get better after a while, but for me it still hasn't been the same. i don't have the best computer, but i didn't have any problems prior to that change. okay, the uber juiced abyss affliction stuff slowed things down, but any other poe gameplay was fine until that change...it has gotten better but it's still not anything like it was before whatever they did and it really does affect my enjoyment of the game.

Also disappointed that GGG never fixed ice golem of shattering not working with any support gems despite trying to buff it in the patch notes (my plan was to reroll the ignite dd into golemancer or ignite slam but golem skill is still broken, and t17s turned out to be way too imbalanced to play melee / non meta)

Ive been playing PoE for 5yrs now, 3yrs in leagues, 2yrs in Standard. Necropolis caused me to Burnout. Im done. for a few reasons. my IRL medical conditions are getting worse, Controller is now almost mandatory for me, mousre and keyboard causes a lot of pain. PoE1 is atrocious for controller play. I tried it, I watched Sefarion play and got a little better but the when you have 100+ Stashaes, Controller is really bad and to swap I HAVE to log out... I went back to Baldurs Gate 3. Easy swap from crontoller play to keyboardmouse stash sort, and in a few days didnt even do that. And yes following DMT's and Raxx's vid Im nocruising in D4 (first time since S1)... One of the main reasosn Im done with PoE (for now, maybe untl PoE2...) is maps. I hate mapping. it takes too much time to roll them... find a decent layout map at T16... chisel, alch, reroll... reroll... and some more reroll... then vaal... oh wait its changed into a bad layout or mods I cant run on the character I want to use it with... and so you have to start again... I quit playing Leagues becuase of having to roll corrupted red maps... I get my first red map, need to vaal it, it bricks... no more red maps... I dont want to send anout 10-20mis grinding for another map, ot then have the same thing happen again. I stopped playing Standard beause each league GGG change stuff and it costs about 50divs to change all my character builds becasue they changed the uniqes / skills / class. I went back to League to see if i could get passed my Wall of Vaalling... I tried in group found leagues... and the I tired SC Trade again in Necropolis... the stress of constantly havving to handle the leage mechanic at every avenue caused severe health issues, I had to seek medical help, so I quit. I tried HC Trade cos I thought, somehow, it would be better, it was, I enjoyed it a lot. got to A2, left the town, loading screen... dead. I got one shot by a juiced rare sitting right outside the town (the clip is on my YT)... The other thing that really annoys me, is, despite very many eails over the years to Crhis Wilson, the Support Team, GGG seems to have NO interesnt in providing ANY sort of assistance or consideration for those of us that have issues with flashing imgaes, lights or non-colour-blindness visions impairments or hearing sesnitivies. I STILL cant have ny sort of sound tunred on in PoE, yet despite this, Delirium and the Menagerie still cause sounds to come through!!!! I can't do thequest bosses for the first voidstones becuase one of them (to me) is completely blue so I cannot see the boss in the arean and the other has SO many things going on I cant keep track of it all, so I die. I don't want a game where i HAVE to grind in game currency to give to someone else jsut so I can progress through the "endgame" system.... SO yeah for me, PoE is not worth the stress etc at this time. with D4 dungeons, I don't have do anything, I find one or craft one and im good to go. will it last as long as PoE and keep me occupied? probably not, Ive already out in another few days of BG3. I know its long but I hope this explains why, for me personally, PoE is no longer the "go to" game. I am aware a lot fo the above seesm to be specific to me but I think y'all find a lot of neuro-diverse people have the same or similair issues but can't or don't say anything for fear of of the replies they will get or harsh comments etc. "luckily" for me I have immense amount of something that makes me laregely immune to such childish reples etc. Great vid Tri, can't wait to see mroe :) apologies for the HUGELY long comment. Necropolis - I enjoyed crafting GG items, I just hated the process. I dreaded making an item every time I did. Why? Trading. Even though I had most of the stuff each time, getting multiples of a very specific monster type of "chance to make additional item" was extremely tedious. That being said, I have some pretty good items. I could also see if we had instant trading the mechanic would have been even more broken than it actually is. Either that or even basic corpses would have been stupid rare to compensate. I actually like the All Flame mechanic a lot however, I hope this returns in some form. Last Epoch had no bearing on my enjoyment of PoE. LE is a two week game at most ATM for me. Great game, don't get me wrong, but not much in terms of content yet. D4 isn't on my radar - at all - I skipped that game entirely. I got to 36/40 this league, I was going to get 37 but there was no point as I'd still be one short for the final MTX. I don't enjoy Ubers, and I'm not a fan of T17 maps, which was all that was left for me. I might change my mind not sure. That being said I had a blast this league. I was able to switch map strategies on the fly which was such a massive QoL improvement I didn't realize I needed so bad. I tend to get board doing a strategy rather quickly. Previously I'd have to re-do my whole atlas, and deal with trading and wasting currency. Which after two or three times was the time I usually said "eff it" and quit the league. Being able to swap between three completely different load-outs on the fly was the #1 reason I played as much as I did this league. I would probably be still playing but re-rolling this late into the build I want to try would be a pita due to the lack of items up for sale, as it's kinda specific. The last two or so weeks I played was just testing strat's for next league. Anyway that's all I got. I get why people hated some aspects the league, however I rather enjoyed it. Let's hope next the league is a banger.

Its pretty obvious that in the grand scheme of things this league was destined to die young. all the drama and the changes happened and the graveyard UI is tedious, true. But the real reason is simply affliction-induced fatigue. GGG had to respond to affliction which changed the status-quo on loot expectations with a league that went in a completely different direction while making juicing still a thing. But the Middle-Class you mentionned who have now quit the league. THEY blasted MF for an ungodly amount of time and burned their dopamine tanks to oblivion. Then they went and played LE for 2 weeks and didnt even have a month off to recuperate before 3.24. GGG never expected this league to break records, this is a buffer league and where instead of trying to hook us for the long haul, they put out experimental stuff to try out on us with the crafting, allflames, etc. And put out a mostly baked endgame rework for us to tryout. Every league cant be affliction level crazyness. Personnally the only reason i stayed is because i was building my first ever armour stacker and just couldnt put it down still unsatisfied. But all my friends either skipped the league outright or they played for 2 weeks aimlessly/halfheartedly before vanishing.

I am one of those players at the bottom of the player base, I enjoyed Necropolis, but not because of the league itself, but because of my own progression doing it. I disliked picking up corpses, I haven't even returned to the graveyard to craft anything since they allowed you to pick your base type. But since I'm still progressing in game knowledge and progression mechanics, I literally kept a list of my firsts from Necropolis First time getting 4 Voidstones First time using an Awakened Gem First time using and crafting Cluster Jewels First time dropping Tier 0 Unique First time buying and using a Timeless Jewel (Did it correct first try!) First Sirus kill I've mostly petered out now, but it's not because I don't want to play PoE, I'm just playing different things. Hades 2 came out, Started playing Hades 1, Valheim got the Ashlands update. Once I complete that I'll probably go back to grinding some PoE casually.

I also would like to add that i used to care about the game a lot. I used to be on reddit a lot. I've never attacked or insulted anyone, but i used to upvote the agry posts when i was not happy with the game. Now i just sometimes watch videos on poe, when i eat, but i no longer care about the game or the community. I did what i wanted and got out. I am just tired of dealing with all the bullshit.

I basically ignored the crafting element. There were several things that put me off about this league. I play a lot but I make my own characters and I try to get them as far as I can. So I've got a lot of barely adequate characters that don't get too far. That's fun for me. That implementation of tier 17 maps seemed really off-putting and I really didn't like the scarab insanity. I thought the idea of the rework was to make mapping more straightforward but since scarabs were not self -sustaining for me, it actually was more annoying than ever.

Sad compared to the previous league wich i had a blast.

Ok, the question still stands. Regardless of your opinion about where to rate yhe league; If what poe 1 has to offer is not good enough for you, then where do you get your faith in poe 2? You say retention is the primary value of the league, but I enjoy the gameplay. I enjoy the fact that magebloods are currently 90d in the trade market. Refusing to adapt to an ever changing game and blaming on the devs you are blowing for poe 2 on a daily basis is hypocritical AF, Which is why im not subscribed anymore. Answer would still be appreciated tho.

Hey! No need to apologies for unsubbing, I totally get it. I enjoyed Necropolis League. Lots of other people didn't. I'm laying out their opinions here. I'm also quite confident in PoE 2 because many of the problems occurring in PoE 1 are a direct result of the game's evolution over the past 13 years. Players have...optimized the fun out of the game. Almost all the complaints I read about online regard the economy, build diversity, and the inability to earn enough currency per hour. There are also complaints about melee, which has fallen behind in many scenarios in PoE 1 due to how the devs developed the game, improperly, as they've clearly explained multiple times. They've admitted said wrongs about PoE 1. They've explained how they're fixing them in PoE 2. That's why they'll both be VERY different games. In many, PoE 2 needed to be a different game now because they know many people enjoy how PoE 1 has evolved, but with this certain league and the many issues with the changes (scarabs, t17s, necropolis, etc), they bounced early. Additionally, I hope we all understand much fewer people are working on PoE 1 right now. They're putting much of their effort into PoE 2 to get the product up and running for 2024. I appreciate the comment and I hope I earn back your sub at some point. Tala kura!

After my league starter character I made an exile to just live in Forbidden Sanctum and I had a lot of fun not interacting with the league. obviously the league mechanic is not very fun, but i havent heard many people talking about how much friction there is for high end strats. they took sextants away because it was cumbersome, but then added in allflames which are not fun to buy as well as certain scarabs like curation that you can only buy one by one and make each map cost and absurd amount. just not what i wanted out of the high end endgame farming, I miss bulk buying winged scarabs, 8 modded maps, and just going to tft and buying all my sextants from one person and having a profitable high end strat.

I must confess... the game felt like work and then I just stopped caring. I just am not interested in crafting and so it is almost like all the other crafting leagues that just had me stop after a few days. Never was able to warm up to crafting completely and feel like I have no reason to interact with a crafting league. I just have no will to "waste" my time learning an archaic and random system like that. Of course it would help me in future leagues but it just is so mindnumbingly unintuitive and fruitless.... I rather learn actual skills. I feel like I have already missed the cool exploits and chances to build a great character and that is extremely demotivating. It sucks that it feels like I "missed the fun". I want the challenge rewards, but... no. There will be other rewards in future leagues and I have no interest in returning to the game right now.

Played poe since beta. Loved the last few leagues. The drop off from affliction rewarding players for playing the game to a "dead" boring crafting league was jarring. Do like the mobs being modifiable for maps/areas. Did make it deep into red maps but the prices for better gear was so compromised from the early currency gouging I'd couldn't out grind the inflation. I hate the campaign isn't avoidable for alt characters. It always kills my motivation to play another character. Look forward to the next league 🤞

There are good leagues, and then there's bad leagues. I feel like your typical POE player starts a new league, plays till they get bored, and then quits until they see another league reveal they think looks interesting. I just move on; no need to shit talk the game endlessly on forums, or endless videos on youtube. I am fine with walking away from POE, I and probably most others do it every single league. It doesnt mean the game is dead or something like that. It seems like if people dont consume a single video game endlessly to infinity then its a bad game. I feel fine walking away from the game and not thinking about it for a while, no hard feelings. GGG will bring your ass right back eventually with something cool, just like you never left and have been doing for years.

Gravecrafting is a double edged sword cause even if you totally ignore the mechanic which is shoved in your face at every turn, (literally blocking your loot) if you choose to ignore it and craft legit your items will not sell because graveyard crafting produces better results and more frequently and the trade markets flooded with them so it's just a negetive experience all around. Also zero chase upgrades for your characters besides expensive uniques really.

I played probably the least I have in years this league. I hate that the mechanikc was not skippable especially after they've gone to so much effort to let you customize your end game yet they create a ridiculous league mechanic that they force you to engage with. I hated harvest league too even though I play SSF but at least you could skip that crafting madness. After 3 failed crafting leagues why not just make improvements to the base crafting system so it is not so random instead of creating these elaborate crafting leagues that are a pain to engage with. Here's hoping that next league is better.

I don't think player numbers are low because of necopolis being a bad league. Yeah, it's not great but far from the worst. The main reason like you said is that other games are doing well right now. And not just the ARPGs that you mentioned. Shooters are doing well at the moment, too. CS2 and OW2 are finally in a decent spot after their underwhelming launch and XDfiant just came out. Also Dota 2 has been doing well recently. And on top of that the weater in europe has been great so people started their summer break from gaming early. It feels like most development effort isn't even going to poe 1 leagues anymore but to poe 2 development instead. You play through all a league has to offer so quick nowadays and if there are alternatives to poe there's no reason to stick around and keep grinding.

The thing that killed my love for poe is actually less of a league and more of a design choice. Simply the fact that impending doom isn't a thing anymore. I enjoyed the league, I'm still playing and yes, I ignored GY too. I made one and only one big craft with it, took me weeks (ssf) and didn't enjoy it. GY can be used as a great shortcut to get high level and 6-link bases early. Like a fossil that gives you the base as well. I would like to see it returning with a toned down versione (like 8-corpse craft, no layout) However, I love most of the changes in the endgame, I love allflames, I love base game overall. This league is far from great, but is it the worst of all time? I don't get it.

If it wasn't for the lucky drop, which gave me tons of currency to max out my build, I think i wouldn't have "beaten" the game. you can only add so much friction until it turns into a high attrition rate. They love their friction so much they put it in places where it makes no sense, like the Graveyard UI requiring a lot of pointless running around with a spreadsheet, corpses being limited, the mapping experience having one more menu, allflames having limited storage and so on. The problem is that even ignoring the whole scarab and t17 debacle, I just think there were some players who were kinda in the middle, enjoying PoE while feeling some amount of frustration for its jankyness, that were pushed over the edge of the game seemingly throwing new annoyance from an UI/UX pov for no reason at all

But getting 300+ divines and very good gear is just too much of a time sink compared to past leagues we I was content with my double digit divine build. Rather than clearing a 100 more Jungle Valleys to get one 80d Items I spent the time playing games with friends, going to the gym or spending time with my dog. Min maxing into a lategame build is too much of a chore and timesink imo to just do it 4 months again.
