PLEASE STOP using the word Mormon, or Mormonism, they're false, misleading and derogatory nicknames. Church leaders put the ban on black members to avoid legalities as slavery was still legal in the U.S. when the ban was instituted, and no president afterwards, until Kimball, fully questioned the ban. It was wrong and a horrible mistake. Ironically, black male members were being ordained the priesthood throughout the Pacific Islands, New Zealand and Australia, all throughout the ban, so it was never a full ban.

Black members of the LDS church historically received no lineage, nor received one from a made up: "non-Israelite lineage". In 1978, Rev. Jessie Jackson planned to bring 100,000 Black Men to Salt Lake City in protest of their racism. Miraculously, the 12 prophets received word from God that Black People are now okay and are more worthy. This was a 2 minute lie.

Every member of the church needs to read Let’s talk about race and priesthood by Paul Reeve. It’s sold at Deseret book, it’s s short and easy read and adds excellent context to this issue. The ban was a horrific mistake born out of racism.
