It's genuinely greeting the camera man, especially with the bow. That's how they greet each other in the wild, and is why keepers bow to them when they bow. If you see one irl, bow to it and shake your head like it does to be a friend.

Researchers are really good at preserving and maintaining special life, the biggest risk of animal extinction, comes from Asian countries eating them til they're gone.. look up the story about the Asian soft shell turtle, where there's only 2 left in the entire world and they're trying to save them with artificial egg production because the turtle is too old to lay eggs naturally. Then, realize, there's 4 other species that are nearing extinction, that they consider to be a 4 star meal.
