I remember Kid nation. The last episode I remember watching was when one little girl was busting her butt cleaning and helping everyone trying to win the prize and they turned around, voted and gave it to another little girl because it was her birthday. I felt so bad for that child who was slaving her little life away to win because she deserved it.

Yes I noticed this immediately and I played it back at .25 and it’s clear as day. Honestly I think since Vice is completely going down hill, they’re probably doing this to extend screen time and maybe even get people talking so more people view their videos. I watched this whole show. I remember they kids were actually really good at getting things done, figuring out who was good at what, and sussing out the phonies. ...until in the final episodes the teenage boys got in charge... and everything went to hell (including rewarding a girl who totally didn't deserve anything just because they had a crush on her).

I went pretty far in the process but did not ultimately get onto the show, although a couple of my friends did. My recollection was that it was always meant to be in New Mexico, and the working title when I signed the paperwork was actually "The Manhattan Project" which would tie it to the state even more. Interesting to hear what was said in this.

They recruited heavily from this summer program a lot of us were a part of called SIG (Summer Institute for the Gifted) where we would stay on college campuses as kids and take classes over the summers. I did the programs at Amherst College and Emory University.
