The scene where Azula impersonates Zuko is often used for laughs, but in here, it feels more messed up and tragic. It shows how Azula views her brother - a failure to be ridiculed, which goes to show just how messed up these siblings' relationship is. It's cool how edits like these could help you view iconic scenes in a different ways you usually don't consider.

Azula's breakdown after being defeated always destroys me. I love what the writers decided to do with her. She's been this terrifying villain the entire show, and they absolutely could have had her defeat be a moment of triumph for Zuko and Katara, but instead they double down on the themes of the show. In the end, we're not afraid of Azula and we're not (or at least I'm not) happy for her defeat - we pity her. Makes me want to cry damn near every time.

2:43 and on I'm so glad this is included I think people tend to forget this part of their relationship they did play together and get along at one point and care in their own twisted way

The scene where azula breaks down and katara even looks sad for her , really shows just how the passionate katara is . Even though all three of them were literally fighting to the death , katara was still sympathetic towards azlua . She have always been compassionate .

Not to mention Katara is more than capable of being a ruthless killer such as when she nearly killed Yon Rha and would've blood bent him if given the chance. Yet while Azula was an enemy she never killed her family and Katara just had sympathy for her in the end with no longer seeing her as the deadly princess who they triumphed over

Yessss, I love this so much! It's so fascinating to watch their character arcs travel in such different directions as the seasons progress. Zuko finds his inner strength and self acceptance along the way after learning how to let go of his self loathing, while Azula's pride and perfectionism (along with a healthy dose of mental illness) slowly brings about her downfall.

So I'm rewatching this show again and this is a question that comes up for me a lot. Do Azula and Zuko actually care about and love each other? My answer would be yes, on some level they do love each other. They're just incapable of coexisting. For them, everything has always been a competition. Zuko always wanted Ozai to acknowledge him while Azula always wanted to feel the warmth from Ursa that Zuko did. Whatever they feel in terms of warmth for each other _has_ to come from a place of nostalgia because they can't exist in the present without realizing how separate they are and resenting each other. Take the beach episode, for example. Azula knows that Zuko would be up by the house because it's the last place their family was happy. She wants to go back to that just as much as he does, she just can't admit it to herself. So she deflects by calling him pathetic for expressing emotions. And when Zuko finally beats Azula, she finally crumbles and releases all those pent-up emotions. He doesn't look down on her with joy, but with pity. And after that, he doesn't put her in prison with Ozai to live out the rest of her days. Instead, he sends her to a mental facility where she can get help and begin to heal. The difference between them is that Zuko had Ursa and Iroh to balance him out while Azula has always felt she had no one but Ozai.
