Azula was born to become a weapon.Ozai tortured her both physically and emotionally from a very young age.She had to break down because no one can hide from the very beginning till the end.Eventually everyone shows themselves.

Emotinally, definitely. Though we don't really have any evidence that he tortured her physically, even though it is pretty plausible. Other than that, I completely agree.

A character who seems perfect and never loses control is the one who is most likely broken inside and azula, at such a young age cracked under this pressure and in the end...she was just another person like any other with emotions who wanted to be accepted by her father when her mother couldn’t.

Azula: The one chosen to take the throne, whose prowess was unmatched. Who was the favorite, pampered and destined for greatness. The one who ended in madness Zuko: The one who was beaten, burned and cast out. Forced to do everything alone with no one to catch him. The one who learned that greatness isn't something you're born with, but something you achieve.

I just watched this right after the hour-long video of psychological analysis of her, and right now I'm crying up for Azula again. Your editing is brilliant, you caught up all these character-setting moments so well! It's so nice to see such a sad and powerful tribute for one of the most complex female antagonists of all time. It'so easy to forgot that Azula is just FOURTEEN, and she already have this abusive family, this repressed inner struggle, this responsibility as possible future heir of the throne, and a lot of problems with mental health, and she's still makes everything to be perfect, because "almost isn't good enough", and she succeeds. That's says a lot. Especially considering that, unlike her brother, she had literally NOT A SINGLE PERSON AROUND to care for her: she constantly needs to work really hard on herself to remain perfect to gain approvement from her father (while Zuko got their mother's love regardless of what he do, but she didn't show the same affection to Azula), her uncle sees her as a monster (all while trying to redeem Zuko despite he had done a lot of awful things too, and somehow not even considering to help his sister), her friends feared her (so Zuko had trusting connection with Mai, while she didn't). That's quite A LOT even for an adult person, and she is in her early teens only! But despite all of that most viewers be like - Azula is just evil, let's talk about our poor Zuko. Yeap, poor Zuko that always had the only thing Azula never had and desperately needed (as shown perfectly in the mirror scene) - that those people close to her are truly cared for her. As a person who knows what an enormous pressure you have when the only way to get any admiration from your family is to be perfect, and how painfully it hurts when you finally realise that even your closest friend don't care about you at all (and seems to doesn't care around two years, and you noticed, but denied the facts) - I now understand Azula really, really well. Azula, listen, you're not alone in the darkness, and you need a sincere hug. And later we can make plans for world conquering and dominance. Would you like to gonna try out to be friends with someone who finally can understand and accept you and your ideas? There was a line from a song from Broadway "Wicked" - "Too long I've been afraid of losing love I've guess I lost. Well, if that's love, it comes at much too high a cost!" I wish Azula understood that before it was too late... :'( Once again - Zlata Adams, thanks for making this beautiful tribute! :)

When they think you cannot understand pain, failure, fear because you have always been perfect, never failed..but they fail to understand why..you never cried because you were afraid to show your vulnerability, you never failed because you were so afraid to lose that you worked hard so that you never have to feel the humiliation of defeat and failure..they think you are the strongest..but actually being strong requires the ability to be vulnerable around people, the ability to fail, the ability to accept that you can not always win..azula was afraid of being betrayed, of being pitied, of being a failure..her hurt was clear when she said that she didn't have sob stories and that she was a monster but it hurt that her mother thought so..it was a self depreciating line..she portrayed herself as a ruthless person..but on the inside she was more broken than zuko ever was..
