Criss Oliva was a criminally underrated guitarist and a pioneer in his own right for the time. R.I.P. If only he wasn't killed before his time tragically by a drunken driver. I can only imagine what he would have been capable of. Phenomenal style, up there with the `80's best shredders. Jon Oliva's vocal screeching was legendary, however if not your thing? 'Edge of Thorns', or 'Handful of Rain' with Zak Stevens on vocals? Sadly Edge of Thorns was Criss Oliva's last album with Savatage. Zak has one hell of an incredible voice. His work in Circle II Circle was also brilliant, amazing vocalist.

Not sure why the negativity against Manowar. They are one of the pioneers of the power metal sound that many bands since have tried to imitate. Granted their lyrics are a bit over the top and they would probably be one of the only bands to constantly sing about themselves. I would put them at God tier personally. Maybe listen to a bit more of Accept. They are one of the originators of the metal sound. I would also put Megadeth way ahead of Metallica. I may be a bit biased. Was born in the 1970s so these bands were a big part of my teenage years.

Not more of a pioneer than Helloween. Helloween defined what Power Metal of the future decades would sound like. Manowar can't be ranked higher than Helloween for that reason.

Ironic how a man named Hall should indeed leave the hall after takes like these

You've never heard Morphine Child or Hall of the Mountain King by Savatage and it shows

Not knowing Coroner, dissing Accept, and you call yourself metalhead. You've just lost all credibility Bradley :D Everyone agrees that Cold Lake is Celtic Frosts' best album :D

Beanley does not know Accept? I am surprised. This is the best metal band ever.

"they sound like a cheap version of ACDC" this guy... didn't even bothered to listen to more than Balls to the wall...

Udo Dirkschneider was a founding member of Accept in 1976, so Brian Johnson was copying his vocal style in 1980. And a guitarist should know the difference between hard rock and heavy metal: simple power chords vs riffs, strumming vs palm muting, bass picking 8ths in the root vs following the guitar or playing its on riff, drummer playing the same 4/4 with hardly any variation over the whole song without using toms vs changing style and using toms for fill-ins etc. Sure there is some overlap between genres but come on.

As someone with a Savatage tat, that hurt a little bit 💔

Bradley I invite you to listen to the twisted sister under the blade album. I think thats when they were at their peak. Awesome mean riffs and dee vocals in that album. You can't stop rock and roll is a really solid album too.

Brads comment is subtle, but apparently I'm not the only one that pairs Testament and kreator together in my head

Accept are god-tier, any other opinion on them is illegal.

100% agree

I'd probably put them in B tier. Definitely not S tier but also not at all a meme band. The Balls to the Wall album in particular is really good- the production, the song- writing and the riffs/solos by Wolf are top notch.

@@stephenhughes5156 Metalheart, Restless and Wild and basically most of their early-to-mid 80s albums are classics. The stuff they do with the new singer is also very good, particularly Blood Of The Nations, Stalingrad and Blind Rage. They are also very good live.
