Solid album, in the From Afar style mixed with their modern evolution. Old Ensiferum in Victorious, best song for me. The Howl really good too, and the vocals in Scars In My Heart are beautiful.

Certainly beats out the new Nightwish for me. Might need to give a bit of an edge to Wintersun's Time II, but that is probably more down to how rarely Jari releases an album, and as much as I think Markus is a great guitarist, Teemu just operates on another level. Fantastic year for metal though that's for sure. I feel like Pekka has grown on me. I didn't care for him in Thalassic, (though I didn't care for Thalassic much in general) but he seems to have found a really good role in the band now, and blends with the arc of the songs a lot better. I love his delivery on the chorus in Long Cold Winter. Teething troubles make sense though. It cannot be easy to integrate super clean power metal vocals into melodeath. Especially after nearly 30 years of doing things differently.

You know, Sami said this album was going to be more fast, angry and Brutal than the past one. That the lyrics were written during Covid. You can absolutely feel the frustrating anger on the lyrics!! "We rise again", "We shall stand", "Charge!!". The new Ensiferum album is a call to arms for the time we fought this horrendous enemy called Covid. That is fucking amazing, man!! I agree as well. Haven't really listened to much past Unsung Heroes because the past few albums were dogshit. I think this new album is either the best or second best of the Petri era. (It's close with Victory Songs). Nothing compares to Iron, though, and as a fan of Rhapsody, I really dig the Power Metal vocals.

I love Ensiferum, it sounds like theyre going back to their roots, but in a more refined way where each song is even more of a ballad or composition than before, it makes me feel like this is the best parts of "Token of Time" and "Tale of Revenge" but with a tinge power metal like "Deathbringer From the Sky" and thrash kinda like "Into Battle" or "Goblin Dance" or even some "Windrider" vibes. I love you guys! I will always remember the meet and greet at Headliner's in Louisville Ky during the Finnish Metal Tour 2011! You guys rock!
