Please advertise more negative side of japan. All the current over-tourism situation is making some Japanese locals so stressful and disturbed. Some low level of tourists are making troubles in public, like trains(carrying huge luggage into the commuter trains, or speaking loud), paying disrespect manners in shrines/temples, and abusing nature in parks, etc.. Please learn a bit of history and people’s mindset before traveling to the country which helps the locals.

Your comment is very relevant. Unfortunately, it seems to be part of Western culture to travel to another country without any concern for the local culture.
When i was yong,, I stayed at Tsumago and at that time , the travelers from forein countries are not there. many young Japanese travelers gathered from busy bustle cities for the calm relief and thoughts of old ancestor's life!

Please allow me to correct some information. 6:42 it is a Chinese buildings, not Japanese. And the Nakasendo is not made for postal delivery. In 16th century, we had Edo Era when Shogun lived in Tokyo(Edo) and regional rulers called Daimiyo had to travel to Edo to meet Shogun and serve Shogun for a few months periodically. This is called Sankinkotai. This was to see the loyalty of Daimyos to Shoun, also make them to spend money. So Nakasendo and other 16th century pathways (Kaido) are made for regional Daimiyos travel to and from Edo for Sankinkotai.

He was saying, "postal", all throughout the video. The more common translation would be, "post". I think he guessed at the history of the juku towns instead of doing the research.

Even as time goes by and the surface of a town changes, nothing changes in the underlying foundation of the unique Japanese culture. The common root of the creation of originality in Japanese culture is the uniqueness of its geopolitical location and the influence of its natural environment. Even if they import culture and knowledge from abroad, they are not dominated by it, and after a certain period of time, they select the content, integrate it with their own culture, improve it, and eventually create a new style. Why, then, have they been trying to improve existing things and create new ones? The reason is obvious: the unique natural environment of Japan, an island nation. The environmentally adaptive behavior of the Japanese people as they survive in the harsh natural environment has given birth to a Japanese behavioral culture in which people cooperate and help each other, and always come up with feasible ways to improve without giving up, even in harsh realities. Japan's original country name "NIPPON”means "the land under (of) the sun" , but another traditional country name is "WA (YAMATO) ” , meaning “Peacefull Harmony”. So Japan's real name means “the Land of the Sun” and” the Land of "Great Peacefull Harmony (of People and Nature),” The history of Japan is very old, about 2,000 years since the Emperor's reign, but humans began to live in villages and communities in this island nation about 14,000 years ago, during “the JOMON pottery” culture. (That's 30,000 years ago, if you count the Neolithic period.) Surrounded on all sides by the sea and geographically isolated from the Eurasian continent in the Pacific Ocean, this island nation has a warm and humid climate, and because it is a volcanic island, mountains occupy about 70% of its land, it is rich in underground clear water resources through its natural filtration system, and is blessed with diverse vegetation and fishery resources. For this reason, people have lived here for tens of thousands of years, enjoying the abundant nature and living in peace with nature. Since ancient times, the people of this land have respected human harmony and have lived in peace by working together as a group. However, while the natural environment of this island nation is rich to live, it is also harsh to live and has both light and dark sides. They have shared and enjoyed the blessings of nature by pooling their wisdom and collectively overcoming numerous severe and harsh natural disasters, such as frequent volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunami, summer typhoons, and heavy snowfall in winter. This is because this island nation has a harsh natural environment that cannot be overcome by power of a single person. power of Individuals are too weak to face the fury of nature when natural disasters suddenly strike the wealth they have built up and can destroy their cities overnight. That is why Japanese people believed that they should suppress their egos, avoid conflict among humans, cooperate with each other to create a livable environment and maintain public cleanliness, and join forces to prevent disasters before they occur and to restore the environment immediately after they have occurred. They believed that this is the most wise, efficient, and rational way to survive and to maintain peace and freedom in each other's lives, this would bring about better results rather than to create more chaos and conflict by insisting on each other's selfishness. because of the environment in which disasters frequently occur that cannot be resolved by individual power alone. And this thinkings have given rise to Japan's unique teachings, culture, and behavior. For example, it is fundamentally connected to the Japanese mindset of "Behaving in a way that does not bother others in public places," "Helping each other if someone is in trouble," and "Not doing bad things even if no one is watching." And one of the teachings of the ancient Shinto religion, "Purify yourself (kiyome) by getting rid of Defilement (kegare)," has been taken over today as a basic manner to "Not pollute even in public places," to “Always keep the environment and yourself clean”, and to make everyone, regardless of status, gender, or age. feel comfortable equally. The warm and humid island climate is not only a paradise for humans and animals, but also a paradise for bacteria and microorganisms to thrive.Without cleanliness in daily life, bacteria can easily multiply and food can spoil. It is clear why the ancient Japanese Shinto religion taught the importance of “maintaining a clean environment on a daily basis. Even before the development of science, they strictly taught cleanliness because they knew that laziness and uncleanliness would lead to plague and other disasters through the growth of invisible bacteria, leading to the death and destruction of a people. This is the ancient wisdom to survive safely in the dangerous natural environment unique to this island nation(the climate in Japan, unlike that of the other continent, is humid, and pathogens can easily multiply.) Over the years, the wisdom to survive in this particular land has been formed into a unique Japanese behavior and culture that values cleanliness, flawless work, and diligence, which is different from other countries. Because otherwise they would not have survived for so long in the natural environment of this land. From ancient times, living in this island nation and experiencing a special natural environment where both sides of heaven and hell coexist at the same time, Japanese people believed that human beings are not the main actors or rulers of the natural world, but only a part of it and one of the many objects kept alive by the natural environment. Therefore, they took a humble attitude toward the natural environment. They also believed that it is important for life to maintain peaceful harmony with the surrounding environment, such as living in harmony with other living creatures and the natural environment, and cooperative behavior among human beings. They also believed that this way of life was the wisest way for each individual born into this world to live happily for the rest of his or her limited lifetime. Against the backdrop of the island nation's unique natural environment, they regarded natural phenomena as the embodiment of God and gave birth to Japanese “Shinto,” a religion of nature worship that reveres not a single deity, but the eight million gods that inhabit all things in the natural world. They feared and respected the gods, who inhabited all things in the natural world and gave life to humans, animals, and plants on earth, and at the same time had a terrifying dual nature that could suddenly change into a god of destruction at the discretion of the gods beyond human thought. And Their accumulated experience in adapting to the duality of heaven and hell in Japan's natural environment gave birth to the idea of the “spirit of harmony” among the Japanese people. Furthermore, it has been born a national temperament of “pragmatism and earnestness” and a “desire to improve and develop the status quo” by adding creativity and ingenuity without giving up on reality.※ The ancient name of Japan, "YAMATO" "WA" (peaceful harmony between people and nature), represents "the wishes and reality" of the people who have been trying to survive in the rich and at the same time harsh natural environment unique to island countries, which is different from the dry and stable land of the Eurasian continent. And it is in this ancient Japanese country name "YAMATO/WA" that the essence of Japanese culture, the origin and secret of its unique culture, which is very different from the cultures of other Asian countries on the continent, is hidden.

Thank you so much sharing your video. I’ve never been there before but I really enjoyed watching and feel like I could have a trip to the place you visited. It is really interesting to know how foreign people feel and think about our country. By the way the road sign you found which was a man with a hat and a little girl means “Pedestrian only from 10:00am to 4:00pm”. 😊

I’m glad you enjoyed Magome and Tsumagome. Honestly speaking, those places usually have lots of tourist. You can say that from the signs are written in English (if no tourist, only Japanese signs). But there are so many attractive places like this in Japan. We are not only Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima like you said.

The way my head perked up when you said Magome... We went there in 2016 and also took the trail to Tsumago. I was told that the hike "wasn't that bad" and it was "mostly downhill". -_- Well, it was magical anyway. Loved the hike, loved the quieter stopover between Tokyo and Kyoto.

It's less known than Nakasane dou, but so beautiful also you can lent bycicle and enjoy 70 km cycling though huge bridges of Shimanami kaidou.

Congratulations on the successful exploration of rural Japan! These are some of the beautiful ancient towns that are forgotten among modern Japanese people. These towns are getting somewhat revived partly thanks to the new visitors from abroad. Overtourism is indeed becoming a big problem in many countries; however, well-mannered tourists like you are fun to interact with and always welcome ;-)

Don't forget to carry bear bell or whistle with you when you go into forested area of Japan. Especially in the fall when they need to fatten up before hibernation. Also during spring ,early summer when new babies are born as mother bear bacomes very protective and aggressive. It's bigger threat than car accidents in Japan lately since hardly anyone hunt anymore.
I am half way through your video I find it interesting that shows the beautiful sight. Will continue following your journey video which I am enjoying them. Is my plan very much to visit Japan as a tourist by group agent tour . Thank you

Tokyo is a city created by modern civilization. Kyoto is also a city that was created over 1000 years ago. However, if you take a train for a few hours, you can feel more than 2000 years of Japanese history. Thank you for introducing me to the wonders of Japan. (Google Translate)
Hello from Canada 🇨🇦. Your video just came up in my feed. I’m on bed rest after a bad scald burn all down my left side and I’m kind of saturated with political videos about upcoming U.S. election. As their neighbours to the North, we are very invested in having sanity prevail. Loved this video and hoping you have many more for me to explore. Merci! BTW we visited France and drove all over after my husband’s conference and never visited Eiffel Tower or other typical tourist attractions. We had a wonderful time exploring less busy areas.

Wow thank you for such a kind hearted comment. Haha, yeah, I totally understand the political thing. It sure is quite exhausting especially for people outside of USA as we don't even have a say in what is happening there, yet still we get the same amount of news 😅. Best wishes, currently from Thailand 😃👋

Yes rural Japan is truly wonderful. I had a similar experience in the Wakamatsu Islands near Nagasaki. How is it that so many young Japanese move from country areas and live for most of their lives in metropolitan shoeboxes?
Sendai, a major city in the Tohoku region, has many Japanese tourists, but almost no foreign tourists. This is because there are no fancy structures that are of value to foreign tourists. This is a city between the city and the countryside. Many artists and foreign students live here in the rich nature and quietness of the city. There are also many such cities in Japan.
as a perosn with a Nordic stomacj, I have one question, how was the Japanese “raw” sushi?
@WildVikingTravels2 ай бұрын
Heihei. Haha, the raw meat sishi was actually amazing!! The wagyu beef here is so high quality that many eat it raw as a sushi or with just wasabi and it is truly delicious 😁
