Ironic though that in the Peninsular War against Napoleon, Britain would put the lessons of 1775-76 to effective use against Washington's one-time ally the French

Is it also possible Howe realized that an extended bombardment of Boston would likely lead to the total destruction of the city? A single house first could spread and destroy much of the city's buildings. If such a fire broke out, he might not be able to get his troops out in time. Howe's was likely a strategic withdrawal, though it is portrayed in American history as Howe running away from Knox and Washington's guns, a "victory" for the rebels. Could though the rebels now use Boston as a base for supplies coming through the port, or did the British still have command of Boston Harbor?

Well, this is nice, but it ignores that while penned up in Boston, the British raided the NE coast before the continentals had a navy, and many of the small towns of Cape Cod and the islands starved to death that winter.

Outstanding history of the Siege of Boston. God was watching out for Washington’s Army by sending these disasters upon the British Army. The birth of a new nation was unfolding. 🇺🇸
