The Winter Patriots explores one of the darkest moments of the American Revolution and how the Continental Army, under the command of General George Washington, was able to save the cause of independence through one brilliant military campaign at the end of 1776 and the beginning of 1777. Follow Washington’s forces as they cross the icy Delaware River on their way to their surprise victory at the Battle of Trenton. Watch as Washington crosses the river once more and fights the British and Hessians on the Assunpink Creek and at the Battle of Princeton.
The Winter Patriots is the second animated feature presentation produced by Wide Awake Films and George Washington’s Mount Vernon - the home of General George Washington. Visit Mountvernon.org to learn more.

As an American, you can't help but be overwhelmed with a sense of awe at the unprecedented courage, boldness, and determination of those who fought---and died---to make this great nation and the concept of basic human dignity and freedom a lasting reality. We who consider ourselves to be patriots today owe Washington and his brave soldiers everything.

Very good words freind with honour and respect ,but how sad it is that now after achieving all they did and a great country ,one of the biggest things they fought for dignity seems now to be forgotten ,I have seen thousands and thousands all over america homeless ,what was biggest surprise how many women and girls are suffering this life ,it's ridiculous in such a rich country and it shows the rich have become too powerfull ,and separated from people and reality democracy it seems ,gets to a point we're it doesn't work for most people ,because out of only two government party's that can get power ,so they have grown similar what the answere is I can't think ,but how do we get real honest humility back into our rich leaders ,only possibilitie would be another revolution.

We call on the Patriots who still may be, or once were, to return and come to his nation's aid in these desperate times. President - I mean, Overlord Xiden has met with all of the anti-gun groups this week in FEB 2021 before Valentines Day to discuss their plans for further infringement of the people's 2nd Amendment rights: no doubt with the ultimate goal of all-out confiscation of firearms. After the FED has disarmed the populace, the far-left radical GOV & supporters will move to eliminate those who oppose their ideas, like those Dictatorships of the world always do. The citizens can not allow any further loss of rights & liberties promised us by our great Constitution that many have died for, sometimes gladly. Should the US citizens passively comply with and obey these new unConstitutional gun laws and/ or Exec Orders, they would no longer possess the tools to fight tyranny and find themselves in living similar to those in North Korea, Venezuela and other totalitarian States who keep their boot on the throat of commoners

Yes I’d like to talk to multiple of my Grandfathers. One of my Grandfathers John Michael Wolfgang was a Private at Valley Forge and one of the men to stay. He was from Pennsylvania, at the age of 12 both of his parents were killed by Indians on March 20th, 1760. The American cause, it’s legacy, it’s constitutional liberties and freedoms is what these men fought for. As every generation must uphold as they once did. These men are inspirational and these are the men to look up to. Not discredit and undermine like the Democratic Party wants to. Democrats violated Articles 2 Section 1, Clause 2a of the constitution during the election process to allow fraud which is absolutely corrupt. It’s not what these men fought for, neither in the war of 1812, the Civil War, or WW2.

I always considered how lucky I am to be born in Philadelphia. I have easy access to all this great history so close to me. My Uncle was a WW2 vet who would take me and my brothers to Valley Forge every weekend when we were kids. And his famous quote to us was "Never forget the sacrifice the men who served here have given to you" Uncle Mason was a good man and an even better patriot. He loved his family. And loved this country till his last breath. It's so sad that people today don't get what these men sacrificed for their freedom. And the history they are taught today has been altered from the truth. This is truly a sad time in our great country.

Few of us appreciate what they gave us. What they gave the WORLD. And Washington was as humble as they come, while in reality, he stands with Napoleon and Alexander as one of the most successful and influential generals ever. But unlike them, unlike Caesar, Washington and his compatriots fought not for themselves. They really didn't stand to benefit much. Life would've been much easier for those rich men to capitulate to the crown. Instead they risked all so that America might become The Shining Light on A Hill a beacon to all the world that we need not be ruled by tyrants. The world steadily grew better for two centuries after until we peaked about 20 yrs ago. Right as I came of age. My Freshman yr of college thr towers fell, and so ended Pax Americana. And - a few blips of hope aside - the world has steadily declined since. We will soon see a bad time His accomplishment on that christmas eve is something I will always remember ans appreciate

Washington crossing the Delaware is one of the greatest moments in American history. I always feel inspired by the story. As a child I remember a Christmas gift, a view-master stereo with a slide set of various events in American history. One in particular was my favorite and I still vividly recall it. The scenes were realistic color illustrations, and in stereo they had an effect of appearing life-like. It showed the battle of Trenton, scene by scene. I was fascinated by it, I still am today. "Set none but Americans on watch tonight". The watchword; "Victory or Death".

Regardless of the fact that the British Army and the Hessian mercenaries were professionally trained. And the Americans were not very equiped for force on force battles. The Americans were very skilled at long range precision shots. One skilled marksman accurately placing single precise shots on the enemy is a combat multiplier. Voltaire stated, "it is not the Regiments that win the battle. It's the side that shoots better that wins the battle." I am positive that much of the troubles that the Americans had during the American Revolution. Brought about the Second Amendment of the US Constitution. Americans remember this and keep a rifle in your possession. And learn to use it.

From Rotherham England. There is an aspect of this conflict that has been long overlooked. Just as some Americans were Tories and took the British side, There were Patriot Brits who took the side of the colonists, some becoming senior officers serving under Washington. The Patriot movement started in the British Parliament in 1725 as a branch of the Whig Party. These radicals pushed to extend the franchise, end political corruption, abolish the slave trade and regain the ancient rights of Englishmen they believed lost. They were opposed by the Tory Party. This conflict between Patriot and Tory spread to the colonies. America being more Whig than Tory was seen as low hanging fruit. Rotherham Yorkshire was at the epicentre for much of this activity. Rotherham’s Earl of Effingham built a monument to the Boston Tea Party that still dominates our town from a hilltop to this day. By 1781, with the Tory Party falling apart, Rotherham’s Marquess of Rockingham was invited to become Prime Minister he agreed on the condition that he be allowed to set America free! The moment he came to power he stopped the fighting against the colonists, but continued the fight against France, Spain and Holland. In 1783 during the peace talks Britain offered better terms to the Americans than the French were demanding, this had the result of splitting the Americans away from France and a friendly and profitable trade was immediately started between Britain and the new USA. Our English Patriots built a massive Victory Arch to celebrate American Liberty at Parlington Hall Yorkshire (please google it). I’ve spent lockdown writing a little book on all this that has just been published by our local Civic Society.

The federalists lost power after Adams and his restrictive free speech laws that allowed for him to jail political opposition and unfavorable press. They then completely dead after 1812 when New England federalists spoke to the English to secede and rejoin the empire. When it came to the economy the federalists were right with things like a centralized bank, paper currency and increased industrialization. I also like that many were anti-slavery. On foreign affairs the democratic-republicans were right in their support of France during the revolution. Adams’ disastrous foreign policy almost got us in a war that we couldn’t afford to go to. He also made immigration more restrictive by banning immigration from France and deporting French people in America. Which technically gave him cause to deport Paul Revere.

I don’t know why I didn’t find this sooner, it’s hard to find such detailed descriptions of the revolutionary battles. Often times the revolution is overshadowed by the civil war when one is trying to learn some American history. The smaller battles are often the most charming.

Nicely done. I did not know that Princeton was right on the heels of Trenton. Usually Washington's Crossing is portrayed as what seems to be an isolated incident.

I recommend David Hackett Fischer's Washington's Crossing as an excellent tale, beginning with the disastrous loss of New York. Then through both battles at Trenton and one at Princeton. Followed by a winter with the Continentals and locals harrying British attempts to get food and forage. Yes, the Brits could conquer. But they could not even hold New Jersey.
