fun fact - i thought longer and harder about how to fight this battle than CA have thought about what to do with total war in the past 10 years. which is why all total war games from now on will just be branded IP cashgrab DLC pipelines.

Man, I remember when I did every historical battle on Legendary, was intense. So much nostalgia for Shogun 2. Best in the entire series. Why they didn't just take this and run with it by improving and giving more of this I'll never understand. Out of them all this one was definitely the most memorable, it was so hard to figure out this battle the first two times. Shogun 2. First game I ever got 99.9% achievements on and basically 100%'d. Keep it up.

It's a shame they didn't relentlessly dump the vanilla world map full of historical castles. Every castle should've been unique, and Kyoto shouldn't have been such a joke. Imagine each settlement having its very own citadel-chain. Imagine they had added limited side-upgrades, making you choose between trenches and gun towers, and making you choose their position from a set of predefined positions. Imagine your initial shock, each time you assault, not having in your wildest dreams anticipated three gun towers in a row alongside your favorite "looks like a good spot"-wall.

Great video, one of my favourite Shogun 2 historical battles. This one is especially funny for being a complete invention of CA - Osaka was yielded without resistance after Toba-Fushimi, which didn't stop the Imperialists from setting it alight. Can't wait for you to cover Ueno.

Proper guns and proper line of sight = A cleansed land of Shogunate Simps, despite the fact that their Shogun fled like a little bitch at sea, they held a fort that was unprepared (they were loading and hoarding gunpowder very late, on the day of battle) and leaderless, in fact, there was no siege of the castle in the end. The Simps left the castle without demonstrating any resistance, once they heard that their "noble" Shogun (who boldly proclaimed that he "would stay and fight" to his last breath, LOL) hid in the USS Iroquois during nightfall, the Imperial forces subsequently took the castle, burned it to the ground on the same day and later converted the grounds into military barracks.

I remember this historical battle. What killed my Armstrong guns wasn't the hidden cavalry. It was the train tracks. For some odd reason, the guns just died out of nowhere when they were passing the train tracks. I dont know if the issue still happens. Its been a long time since I played TW games.

That's a bug from Empire total war. Same with bridges in that game, they sometimes kill artillery that goes over them

There was no actual battle in the "Siege" of Osaka. The shogunate forces yielded without a fight and then the Imperial forces burned Osaka castle anyway. This mission is an invention of CA to make the event more dramatic.

Very few actual battles happened during the boshin war, and out of the 100,000s of men mobilized only a few thousand ever saw combat. This campaign is fairly ahistorical but if it wasn't, there wouldn't be any big battles really

What are you thoughts on mods for Rome 2 (DEI, Age of Bronze) / Attila (MK 1212, Fireforged Empire)? These mods are better than recent TW titles from CA while being free but I didn't see you ever covering any of them.

They took stray shots from the enemy. That's what Volund meant when he said the guns work. If they miss their target the bullet doesn't just dissolve into the ether but continues to fly forward.

This video can help me with an issue i had with this mission a few hours ago.... I was doing fine wiping every enemy unit outside the castle and eventually without previous warning the game told me that i lost the battle, even tho i didn't even got to 30% casualties, seems bullshit to me.

Have you ever played uesugi? I have tried so many times on legendary but i cant survive. 2 stacks from takeda and 2 stacks from hojo. I feel like you have to pull of some impossible battles type of gameplay to survive the first 30 turns

not the best person to ask, ive never lost a campaign or even came close. i always played shogun 2 handicapped and still had an easy time. the only challenge was ever finding challenge and making it interesting for YT.

Their starting province is garbage. The easiest way to play them is to move and secure the east, and come back to reclaim your homelands later. Turn it into a quasi Date campaign of sorts.
