I love the Pariston part where it's like "But why would Pariston help Kurapika by killing the spies just to f*ck him over by killing someone during one of his classes but again saving his classes. It makes no sense!" because like that's the level of bullshit and hate love Pariston would do so it makes perfect sense.

Thank you for crafting analyses worthy of this story. There is so much rubbish manga content on YT, with people barely able to pronounce main characters’ names and focused on clickbait nonsense. I’m loving every one of your videos. They’re helping me get through the week between chapters, and they’re helping me keep track of the insanely dense collection of plot lines and characters. Even when your predictions don’t pan out, your line of thinking is always spot on. And you obviously love HxH as much as we do. Keep doing what you’re doing!

For me, Bellerainte is the most suspicious one. He is the only one who could have easily access to fellow hunters (Woody and the other ones) early killed by silent majority (before the begining of the nen class) : He's working on the room 1013, so it's easier to get along gards from the 1014 He already known Barigen as they work as 13th Prince (but Barigen was a personal guard). He also already knows Bill, so can be in "Team Beyond / Pariston" (and Pariston loves twisted/uneasy plays). On chapter 370 (page 10), he raised his hand to signify he was already nen user, which lead Roberi to discover the presence of silent majority, then he indicated silent majority's placement in the room. his motives can be: - Acting nicely to Kurapika in order to get close to him - Get rid of troublemakers during the nen class in order to let the learning succeed - On the contrary, if he is with Pariston, putting pressure on the nen class for fun in order to stress Kurapika and see how can he manage to sort things out.

1:34 I do read this in Japanese and English, so I can verify that the wording is indeed the same. The English is a pretty direct translation in both cases; Mushaho thinks about 重要任務 “important task/mission” while Silent Majority thinks about 任務の重要性 “importance/gravity of (the) task/mission”. This is pretty typical for the official translation of this series and you can definitely assume such similarities in phrasing and other literary devices are used intentionally and match the original script. (To be clear I’m not saying that means it’s definitely evidence of the two characters being connected… just verifying that similarity in phrasing exists in the original language too!)

A small "coincidence" of note: silent majority's doll clothes motif and ability are snakes... A link to Cleapatro? (Egyptian queen snakes as symbol of their power). Cleopatra also killed herself by letting herself be bitten by a snake, so maybe it is just foreshadowing Cleapatro's fate. Very little to work with, we only saw her for literally one panel, but maybe something to keep in mind if the action moves inside the justice bureau building.

I have always been on board with the Belerainte/Pariston theory for all the reasons you brought up. I might also add that room 1013 is just next to 1014 which makes day 1 murders more possible. I don't agree with Satobi being the killer, he is not a nen user and I don't think Togashi would introduce someone as skilled in aura detection as Furykov and make the entire solution based on a nen user hiding themselves from him, it wouldn't be satisfying. So there is only one secret nen user and that is Longhi. Spoilers 401 And now that Longhi is revealed as a red herring that leaves the only nen user in class not including Furykov and that is Belerainte

This makes a lot of sense (and also thank you for marking spoilers, so let me do that too!). *Spoilers 401* But while someone being skilled enough to escape Furykov's detection would be surprising, it's not unheard of to have really insane control over your aura - look at Ging doing "pip play" to impress Beyond's expedition group. Someone like that could surely pass undetected, so I wouldn't consider it a totally bogus solution if Satobi can do it because he's just amazing at Nen. And the bigger point to me is, why would Bele work against the class with the murders and then save the class with his speech? Especially when it's up in the air what's gonna happen? It's kind of easy in retrospect to say "He knew he could talk them out of stopping the class" but he wouldn't really know until he did it, so that's a huge gamble if he really wanted to keep the class going. And for what? Barrigen and Myuhan were nobodies. Was it really just for the Bill favor? I'm open to this whole idea but I can't come up with a motive for Pariston/Beyond that matches up with what SM's been doing.

@@ExtraOtter The obvious reason is that he wanted to befriend Kurapika. By putting the class at risk and then stepping in to save the day, Kurapika came to rely on Beleirante, and also allowed him to organize the class arrangement, where Bele might have gathered information on the other participants. Also, attacking Barrigen would clear suspicion from him since Barrigen worked for the same queen. It requires a bit of 5D chess on them guessing that Bele COULD save the class, but we ARE talking about someone working for Pariston. Also, I think there are other clues for Beleirante. He tells Sakata that he was the one who killed Barrigen, like he knew Barrigen wouldnt have died from the blood the snakes would have sucked anyway. It is possible Bele only planned to wound him badly, but Sakata killed him. Momoze's Nen Beast attacked Room 1014 right after Silent Majority and it is hinted by her Nen Beast that she yearned for her mother's attention, so maybe her Nen Beast attacked because she felt an attack happening from her mother's room to the bodyguards in room 1014.

If the Marionette has some super strict conditions, it could, in theory, have a much longer range than we would normally expect....but the fact the user can possibly see through it as well seems a bit overkill.

12:16 Loberry was a nen user due to her being the SM "host", which awakened her nen while being unaware of it, she's not a hidden nen user concealing her nen knowledge. The assassin in not necessarely acting in Woble's interest, but he stopped killing as soon as his actions came close to ending the classes, and the previous murders aided Woble's cause or at worst were neutral towards it, so it's possible to argue he's being considerate of her circumstances. Woble was never attacked directly, by an ability that works best with the element of surprise, making the first attack having the prince as the target the best bet. So killing the prince does not seem to be the goal. Nor ending the classes, as the attacks stopped the moment it became a real possibility, instead of piling up immediately after to make sure it did happen. The key to the mistery could indeed be that the assassin DID know about Kurapika before the announcement. It would explain many things. His interest then would be tied to a prior interaction, which predates the Succession War plot. Pariston's connection is the strongest one in my opinion. Kurapika picked Pariston's interest after failing the spies during the exam. Messing with him for the sake of it, or testing the ability of a future opponent the same way he tried with Ging, both fit the character perfectly. Satobi implies a 5th hidden nen user escaping Furykov and I find it equally as unlikely as the culprit being not in the room, for the same exact reasons you used in the video. It's literally the same narrative pitfall.

Loberry was counted as a hidden Nen user by Furykov on his list of four regardless of why she had aura. I'm specifically explaining his list, so it doesn't matter if Loberry could really use Nen on her own or not. It's true that Bele being the SM User means we don't need to posit someone hiding from Furykov, which could feel cheap. But threatening the class as much as he did in order to... kill Barrigen? Definitely not acting in Woble's interest there - Barrigen is a nobody and threatening to ruin the class on day 1 was a massive risk for basically no upside if you just want to help Kurapika's group.

@@ExtraOtter it matters when you use her being a nen user as reason to consider the other 3 maids. At that point, when considering other candidates by proxy, why Loberry is a nen user and whether she's aware of not, do matter. What do you mean in order to kill Barrigen? That wasn't the goal, Barrigen is an opportunity kill, we've told by SM, that was used to kill someone and meet the ability requirements, and needed to kill to avoid the ability drawbacks and the curse rebounding on the user. This in the same chapter in which the Marionette starts her line of reasoning by gauging the likelihood of the classes being interrupted, and deciding to attack after coming to the conclusion that the kill won't take things to that. So if anything, we know for sure they're not trying to stop the classes, and are calibrating their actions around carrying out their mission without reaching that breaking point, as the deaths stopping later on suggests as well

i read on this on wikipedia about zashiki dolls. "There are theories about how they cannot be seen by anyone other than members of the family or how they can only be seen by children but not adults. There are stories about how when adults counted children, there would be one more person than there was originally, but as adults do not understand what zashiki-warashi are, they would not know who the extra person is." Obviously it complements the 'they were eleven' reference

loved seeing so much in depth analysis for this video!! a lot of the other silent majority vids/posts i've seen have either been way too fast to jump to conclusions without leaving some wiggle room (i.e. just because furykov doesn't identify any more than four nen users in the room; doesn't mean he's a 100% accurate source and there can be no more than four), or the person kind of just reviews the situation without drawing any conclusions. i'll admit, i was in the camp of people who was starting to think it likely that SM was outside the room- or at least i thought it was more likely than shimano being secretly evil and somehow able to pass kurapika's dowsing test, or hisoka disguised as beleriante or something. but your point about "there were eleven" referencing a sci-fi manga with that same kind of imposter set-up has swayed me. togashi lovesss his references, i don't think he'd put a half-baked nod there if it didn't mean anything. i like the ultimate conclusion you drew about duazul: i think she's one of the more enigmatic queens, simply because it's hard to read her through that kind of ~demure~ demeanor she puts on around camilla. but the idea that she is ruthlessly setting things up for an unknowning halkenburg makes a lot of sense!! [chapter 401 spoilers] with this newest chapter i believe we can rule out longhi and tubeppa both. longhi most obviously because of what we now know about her & her passing the dowsing test, and tubeppa by extension -not just because of the longhi connection, but rather because i don't think it fits with her characterization at all. we know from shimano that she believes tubeppa plans to take out her elder siblings to secure a pardon for the younger princes, and we've seen tubeppa show compassion towards woble in the privacy of her own quarters too many times for me to think she's putting on an act. this doesn't actually conflict with your analysis, but one thing i wasn't sure about was the fact that loberry had been hiding her nen. i thought it was a situation wherein "possession" by SM was similar to stealth dolphin (or halk's nen beast) in that it inadvertently awakened the targets aura. the following target(s) may not have experienced that nen awakening when possessed, because after that first day of class they had already somewhat awakened it? that made me think that perhaps SM worked in a similar way to steal chain i.e. inadvertent awakening. i do also love the wildcard pariston's very existence creates. motive? pariston doing pariston shit. him going to all these lengths just to troll kurapika is extremely on brand. my first guess when i read the chapter was that it was an extension of marionne, from beyond's team due mostly to aesthetic similarities but also because 'Pariston Made Her Do It' is as good a reason as any. but regardless of who it turns out to be, i really enjoyed your breakdown of our little locked room murder mystery and am looking forward to seeing more succession war coverage from you in the future!

i think you forgot that silent majority was attached to loberry. and killed woody alone in the bathroom and then the other bodyguards in a closed room. so i dont think it makes sense that the killer needs to be in the room to use silent majority, it is a remote type ability that parasytes someone to move around and can be dispelled once they hit their target, it is also mentioned it doesnt work well on nen users because it can rebound back if countered so it can only be activated on sure kills, which becomes troublesome once most people in the room develop nen. i think this implies that someone close to fuugetsu and kachou's camp has placed silent majority on loberry, since they have the most access, perhaps someone either in the employment of their mother or on fuugetsus camp since keeney(en) and melody(heartbeat) both are very aware and would probably catch a nen attack on a maid stationed close to them with kacho. the other problem is the first dead bodyguards, kurapika's dowsing chain wouldnt incriminate someone being parasyted, so the host of silent majority was probably stationed among the bodyguards who remained after the second attack, and died once momoze's spirit beast activated or was sayird himself, and was dispelled after the second killing and reattached to loberry. meaning that we need to think about who had access to both loberry and one of the spies among woble's bodyguards. it was probably one of the two who remained after the second attack and were killed by sayird. knowing who those two were spies for would probably narrow it down significantly but i dont think we even find it out, the graph on chalter 360 seems to indicate it was either sevanti or seiko's camp, seiko's camp, with swinko having the chance at infiltrating both and seiko infiltrating sevanti's. both guards killed knew about the succession war but not necessarily about silent majority due to being non-nen users.

It's a pretty popular take. My strongest rebuttal is I just think "it was someone outside we never saw and never could've guessed" is a lame solution to an established mystery. My faith in Togashi is greater than that!

I'm pretty much on the same boat, but I lean more towards Pariston-Belerainte (partially because of 401). The only thing holding Satobi back is how we know everyone awakened to Nen by the end of day 10, so Kurapika must have used his chain on Satobi as well. Now it's possible that Satobi is so good at hiding his Nen that Kurapika couldn't see through it, but it's still difficult to believe that he would miss such a thing when it's right in front of him. That being said I'm 100% on board with the idea that Duazul has something brewing, she has the most kids involved in the war and thus the most to lose, and the vibes I get from her scenes is that she has a lot of complicated emotions, so I bet we'll see something big from her end eventually. She might even be involved in the SM plot even if the user is Belerainte, depending on who you think the Queen Beyond had a child with is.

one thing that non japanese speaking fans completely miss and yet that is huge information is that we can basically know the user's a man because of his speech in all of his thought bubbles. this alone already clears longhi. the user of silent majority uses the first person pronoun "ore" and generally basic tough speech, like the average young-ish (male) soldier character (like not 50+) in this arc. it actually surprised me and made me laugh a little when reading the panel that goes smth like "silent majority, set to activate!" ("silent majority, hatsudou shite yaru ze!" in jpese if generic-you want to know) because i expected a more neutral, normal, maybe even professional way of speaking from my impression of the character in english, but the japanese tone is on the edgy (and almost immature as in prideful) side. belerainte actually has a pretty distinctive manner of speech that gets lost in translation. probably not distinctive enough to be able to determine whether he is or isn't the user tho. but ngl i do not remember every scene he's in and i'm not going to analyze them and check his pronoun right now. i will eventually! i am determined to "solve" this mystery before it's revealed >:)

luzurus is 100% a son of broccoli mafia man, so there should be at least 3 false princes. We know zhang lei is the son of onion man, so terror should be the son of beyond (potential, looks and inhumanity or disdain for others' lives), making his sister (evil woman jesus) a more legitimate son than him. I heard some people say that he couldn't because unlike his brothers he wasn't born with nen, but it's clearly stated that the sacrifices were attacked with nen via the curse, which opened their aura nodes and made them develop nen nearly since birth.

I feel a big ??? about this killer is. WHY are they just targeting people around prince Woble??? Why did they rush so much to kill so many of prince Woble's already woefully unprepared gaurds. It seems clear they're trying to weaken and make a target out of Woble to some extent, but it could also be convenience to some degree. I don't know why I just feel there must be some bigger reason for that though, otherwise I wonder why it was kept hidden instead of being revealed alongside the Mannequin.

I'm actually convinced that Kurapika is playing the part of the rat better than Pariston. Keep in mind that Kurapika doesn't have much time. If you believe that Kurapika is using the class to extend time, you've been fooled. Kurapika can't afford to wait. They can't just win, they have to win fast. Also, Kurapika can't afford to give Tseridnich enough time to become a complete God, if he's not already one. He's clearly being set up to be the big BIG bad.

Kurapika knows absolutely nothing about Tserriednich's Nen genius, so he's definitely not planning around that, and we do see in his head repeatedly to confirm that he's trying to stall. It's just some fun dramatic irony that, unbeknownst to Kurapika, the stalling is giving Tserriednich super powers.

Yes, we gotta see what Sarahell's up to, that'll be covered in my Camilla video. It doesn't seem like she's aware of the Silent Majority happenings, but we don't know that Duazul would have her queensguards sharing info with the Untouchables (they're just there to die, after all - and Sarahell's mission is risky, so better not to tell her more than you have to).

Very dubious. SM User thinks the situation in the room is as "we" expected. Oito would already know the situation ahead of time without needing to confirm it, since she lives there. And who's the "we" that she'd be working with to arrange the killings?

any thoughts on whether Halkenburg is hiding a closer-than-expected private relationship with Duazul, and if so, what end that might serve? Or could the misdirect, if there is one, have instead involved Camilla and/or Tubeppa?

I tend to think Halk's social media post about not getting on with Duazul was honest just based on his personality. Cammy may have meant that Halk's relationship with Duazul is just a bit less icy than Halk's relationship with Cammy. As for the source of mother/son conflict, I imagine she has high expectations for him and would, say, pressure him to focus on becoming king - when he doesn't even believe there should be a king. That fits with them not really talking but Duazul still scheming on his behalf.

I liked it too but I got a Hot KZbin Tip that 20-second intro screens were probably making viewers close the video immediately. I'm a big KZbin noob so I'm trying to be open to feedback about that sort of thing. (But I'm not yet at the point of making The KZbin Face for my thumbnails.)

After the new chapter, I think we rule out Longhi but I think the other guard captain (not Maor) is a pretty good bet imo. Like they have just enough page time for us to recognize them when it’s revealed

This new chapter confuses me. If nen users can see any changes in kurapika’s nen after coming out of the negotiation room, how come nobody can see fluctuations in the killer’s nen in the room while silent majority is activated or the loss of nen after withdrawing silent majority?

1) Furykov has unusually keen eyes to spot the difference in Pika's aura after the contract is made. 2) The killer could just be that amazing at controlling their aura, and/or the remote marionette could be "automatic" in such a way that its usage and withdrawal don't affect the user's aura at all. 3) Do try to keep post-400 spoilers to the chapter reaction vids!

Even now it's unknown! We don't know if SM possession lends aura and would fool Furykov, and we don't know Loberry's deal. She wouldn't be the first or last hidden Nen user if she really did know Nen.

I think you made a mistake in part 3 saying that guards of 9th prince were identified nen users. They were not awoken on first day, which means the 2 other people were identified as nen users, not them.

Read the first couple pages of chapter 372 again. Furykov tells us that having accounted for Loberry and the 9th prince guards, that only leaves one remaining hidden user.
