Your SP-- er, SMERP system is in my top 3 most consistently useful DM tools. I love how fractal-like it is, where each country, town, district (and now, even tavern!) can have its own SMERP. Wow a sneakypeek and bonus accent lessons! The value in this channel is unparalleled. Big agree on food in fantasy. One of my lazy tricks is to just take an existing basic food or drink type and add the name of the city/region/nation, or even a religion or other element of the world, to the title. For example, if your players ask about drinks available in a tavern in a region called Elbeir, tell them there's Elbeirian Wine available. And if they press you for a description, just say a type of wine you know from the real world and add one extra flavor/note to it like a specific fruit.

A helpful translataor here: Feuerzangenbowle means fire tongs punch. But I like your idea to use signatur dishes. Here is mine. Ferrisian foamer. A mead that gets heated with a nail from the stove. Then you stir with rosemary and thyme spriggs and let it stir for a few minutes. Infusing the mead with the herbial flavor. Like a herbial tea but with mead, instead of whata. ;P Invented by a dwarf called Ferris Maar Bielson. A blacksmith. Yes you can steal it. Just give me credit. ;) Wish you a wonderful day.

Most of my party doesn't like giving up their weapons either. Not sure if it's a lack of respect for authority in the group for some reason or if it's just that they feel "we're adventurers and shouldn't be made to be far away from our tools of the trade". Mind you, the rogue (who has the biggest issue) has 2 daggers that can be summoned from tattoos on her arms... she's never unarmed. Weird.

I tend to create my own worlds from whole cloth, but I do use a very similar process to fill them out. Grandma (she's actually a great-grandma, with 25 great-grandchildren now) had lunch with mom (herself a grandma with 19 grandchildren) yesterday. I'll email her, as per usual, even though she's less interested in official WoTC publications these days, because she'll probably like watching the creative brainstorming.

Loved this breakdown and the setting suggestions. I can totally see Olaf as jovial front of house manager who is also good with figures and dealing with suppliers, while Savan keeps everything in order and maintains a calm, gruff but fair, hold on all the staffing and daily organization. I also think a great hook from any angle would be to have a controversial figure, religious, military, whatever, who makes the Silver Dragon Inn their regular lunch spot. The proprietors don’t always mind the free publicity, however some locals wrangle at this person’s rude behavior and their reputation and the negative extra attention this brings to their respite. Maybe this figure inadvertently upsets a foreign dignitary or openly berates a beloved member of the wait staff. Then something happens and the players, who are present, are then tasked with protecting this figure as they try to leave, sneaking their adversaries in, or investigating their murder. Either way this sounds like a fun intersection spot which could breed all kinds of stories. Like Quark’s on DS9. Thank you so much for sharing these explorations and the sneak peek at the new DMG.

100% useful Dael! I was in the process of rewriting the intro to a one-shot for Free RPG day this Saturday because I don't like the hook. I just looked at the pre-gen character sheet backgrounds and will now provide a couple strings related specifically to them that will only take one player to be inclined to pull on. Now rather than being bystanders to the incident, they'll be stuck in the middle of it -- and we're off and running a better game!

Dragon's Blood sounds like a favorite drink of Vampires. In my campaign world the most powerful drink has been called "Dragon's Piss" since 2E. It isn't a set campaign world, but every time the question comes up of what's the strongest drink, the answer is always, "Dragon's Piss", a single tankard will knock a Dwarf on their butt. If you make the CON save it will give you temp HPs, not many but some. If you fail you pass-out.
