I'm very new to photography, picked up my first camera six weeks ago, and I'm finding your videos invaluable. I'm regularly watching them, taking notes and then putting it into practice the next time I'm out taking photos. The videos are clearly explained, well put together and enjoyable to watch. As a beginner, I've never feel lost nor do I feel like there was anything that I don't understand. Sincerely, thank you.

Great video. "Timing" = patience. Patience is one of the things I don't have enough of and I need to learn/adjust to if I'm to improve. Thanks Nigel, excellent tutorials, very helpful.
@EdwardMartinsPhotography

Timing is usually related to the light. My best shots happen when I go back many times to shoot the same subjects in different conditions or when the conditions are right/optimal. Very rarely am in the right place at the right time. Of course the more you go out the more likely that is to happen! 🙂 F8 and be there...

Great work! Like your channel a lot. I agree with one of your last comment that timing is highly debatable. Nothing wrong with patience and waiting for perfect timing, but it's also good to simply work with what you have. On a different note: Was this entirely shot in Dales Nat. Park? Really gorgeous. I would love to travel in that part of the world one of these...

I have a comp that I've shot for two years in a row now and both times I feel like I've missed the timing. Sometimes I get impatient to move on and both times I've moved on too soon. This year I'm not missing it. On another note, I made a comment on another photographers channel that even though I've never been there it seems like I know the Lake District well as there are several photographers I follow who all call the area home. The funny thing is that as soon as I saw you standing next to that wall I KNEW exactly where you were. Your composition just confirmed it. Someday I'm going to have to go there to shoot it in person. Thanks for another great video.

I doubt I will have, and have no plans to have a career as a landscape photographer. I just take photos of things that I think are cool in the moment, it's a hobby. I have no concerns if anyone other than myself will enjoy what I capture and I don't share my photos, but I do appreciate various KZbinr professional landscape photographers works and presentations of their viewpoints. I have learned a great deal for several years of consuming content such as this.

timing is everything, wonder how far you go? I worked in the construction industry and kept a diary every day, weather, progress, etc. and that continued into my fishing hobby. Its interesting looking back on 30+ years of diaries, how the weather repeats itself, almost to the day/week. Yes, now and then we get hiccups, for example at the house we normally get 120 inches of snow. This year 9-inches. Wondering if you keep a diary of weather and time for your photographs?

Great video Nigel! I give most of my thought to timing. Sometimes I'll go find the location and composition I want then, spend the rest of the day in that location waiting for the lighting,clouds etc to be just right to enhance the rest of the image. It's almost always worth it, even when I don't get the exact image I'm hoping for.

Really enjoyed the video Nigel. I particularly liked the 3 pictures all taken in the same location, but during the different seasons. Really interested to hear how you managed to get the pictures in what appears to be exactly the same spot. I presume that you placed your tripod in roughly the same position, but then use Lightroom or Photoshop to get it exact. I’d love to know how you got it so precise?

Timing is by far my biggest problem. My photography is more of a hiking log than an attempt to do it professionally. When you have to be 25km away by the end of the day, you just don't have the luxury of being in the right spot at the right time. I remember thinking one time I should've started my holiday 6 hours earlier and ignored normal bed/meal times. My photos would've been much better. 😆

Nice video as usual and the ideas of instruction are wonderful - thank you for them. I wanted to add that I watched you walking on the icy steps and stones and kept thinking that if you fell that you'd injure your back so here's my idea.... BUY SOME ICE KLEATS FOR YOUR BOOTS!!!! Then I'll feel better when I watch you walking and you most likely won't slip and fall....

Blue skies are great for black and white photography. The harsh shadows increase contrast and the sky can be crushed to contrast with the sun on the peaks. Let’s see some more black and white photography, Nigel! 😃

Like you could have used a telephoto lens and isolated the snowy peaks and shot a black and white pano that showed the ruggedness of the mountains against the sky. Could have been a keeper! 😎 My point is that blue skies are actually awesome opportunities. More predictable conditions that allow one to spend more time in the field choosing a composition rather than chasing fleeting light 🙃

The original walls in the Langdales are over a thousand years old, built by Vikings to protect the cultivated land from grazing animals on the upland fells. They were expanded in medieval times to mark boundaries, protect woodland, and enclose sheep.
