Very nice video Nigel, one question: at 07:23 you said you go down to low ISO and said remember that reduces the dynamic range!! So if you photography with low iso so you actually increase the dynamic range. Why you told ther reduce the dynamic range? What you wanted to mention there about reduce dynamic range?

Thanks for taking the time to make such videos :) I wanted to participate but sadly I couldn't log in into the website for some reason. I sent you an email about that to ask you whether it was an option to share the image with you in google drive. I'm not sure that's something that would work for you tho :)

Nigel, I follow you on YT and have a question. I am going to Antartica in a week and trying to figure out my lenses. Like you I shoot Nikon and have all the great S glass. I was planning on taking the 100-400 but was undecided between the 28-400 and/or the 24-120? My 28-400 is fine optically up to 100 mm but gets a bit soft as it extends. The 100-400 is a true beauty and I love it. I also love the 24-120. I am leaning to the 00-400 and the 24-120. What are your thoughts since I know you have been to Antartica? Thanks in advance. Eric

Well done everyone, great images and a great video. Nigel, you are right, it is so nice to see more women being represented in photography. I have had my fair share of bullying from some male photographers nearly to the point of me giving up something I love. Photography can be for everyone, young , old, male/female, able bodied or disabled, its such a fantastic hobby. Thank you for the video it is always an education.

Hi Nigel, thanks a lot for this video. One question at 06:46 you said we have to focus stacking. But at the shot after that is not written focus stacking rather I see just a focus point. Is it correct or you did there focus stacking?

Man maybe I should get the 24-120? I am saving for a Z6II (I know it’s an oldie but a goodie) and I can get a kit w/ 24-70 or 24-120. I do portraits so maybe the 24-120 is best. Is it very heavy?

I’m about to buy a Z6II as a backup and second body to my Zf. I can get it with the 24-70 F4 as a kit for a deal. Worth it?

Hello Nigel, thank you for this video. This is one of the formats that I particularly appreciate because it is concrete, it normalizes making mistakes and allows you to see beautiful images while training your eye. I always try to guess the points of improvement before you point them out, and the more I watch this kind of videos, the more I find myself being able to identify the same points for improvement as you. I'm sad to have missed the opportunity to submit a photo, I hope to be able to do so in a future video :)

Listen, if a 12 mp camera from 12-13 years ago made it to billboard, imagine a newer 20+ mp camera. As simple as that.

I'm NOT a talented amateur photographer by any means I'm still learning my way around a camera but after watching countless KZbin videos about photography from ALL the so called expert's out there, Ive come to the conclusion there's only 2 things needed for photography . 1 A descent camera and lens. 2 The main go to tho is..... Adobe or literoom. I wonder how many great photographs there would actually be if it wasn't for photo manipulation?? So 10% is actually photography and 90% is whatever photo suit is used. So basically I'm better off buying a pixel 9 since it already has Ai ... Software is the answer to ALL great photography NOT talent or gear ... 5:48

I would like to see you do critiques of photos that are NOT similar to those you take - give us different types of landscapes and trees/plants! Places that don't have fog, oak trees, silver birches, heather. And how about asking just women to submit photos for critiques some time?

I mostly take pictures of birds and insects to post them on my inat. Now I feel bad about cropping the photos way too much. I see the importance of the surroundings and other objects that might be captured in a shot after watching your video.

This is such a great way to support young photographers! Good cameras are so expensive. Way back when, I started out at 18 with my dad’s old Canon ftb1. Luckily I got some good lenses with it. But later through the years, quality updates were always out of range unil I had been gainfully employed for many years. How can you justify spending $4000 dollar on a “mere” hobby? But I love my Nikon Z6, which had let me experience the awe of nature in some excellent locations and unforgettable experiences. And thanks to your videos, some of my images are not even half-bad… 😉

Thank you Nigel. I learned a lot, especially on your comments on composition. Did not take much attention on what to include and exclude. I'll spend more time looking at the scene, and move around for different viewpoint before shooting. Look forward to watch more critiques.

one of the things i had to find out the hard way is that lenses can have a "resolution" of sorts. and while lenses made for digital sensors are a lot better and focus light more precisely this sadly does not always mean that they're gonna be good. the kit lens i got with my canon eos M50 for example was terrible. not bright enough, not sharp enough, couldn't get decent bokeh out of it. it made me just stop enjoying photography for a while until i sprang for a vintage but at the time very high regarded prime lens. which.. oh boi, ignoring crop factor and all that jazz it breathed new life into my enjoyment of photography, it was sharp but had a very lovely softness to it at the same time. to where things such as skin would appear ever so slightly smoother than it really was but the contrast was retained and the color rendition was just.. leagues ahead of that kit lens. i'm honestly glad i bought that camera in a kit back in the day instead of having bought that kit lens separately cause there was an option for the camera without it... for the SAME PRICE. that vintage glass also made me look into actually 35mm film cameras and now i mostly shoot analog. started with a minolta xg 9, went to a nikon FA and now i wrapped back around into the somewhat modern era of 1988 with the nikon F4 (amazing camera but VERY heavy)

Interesting that all the sharpest/heaviest lenses are the 'worst' yet the more flexible/lighter lenses are ranked highest. This also reinforced my decision to buy the 24-120mm after recently moving to the Z7II.
@thomaswentworth64336 күн бұрын
This shows that: 1. An aps-c camera with a good lens is as good as a £7k Hasselblad. 2. MP don't really matter with good glass. 3. It's all about the glass 4. MF, FF, APSC - makes no difference in the real world. 5. Have we been lied to by camera manufacturers??
