Really liked your insight on every topic. Prioritizing things are key. I see this everyday. Everyone wants to tell me all these things wrong with their swing or what they don’t like on camera. Rarely do they attack the root cause of the problem and pick the issue with the top priority. At the end of the day fix the ball. Fade = more chest opening and arms and hands more passive. Draw = chest more passive through and impact and more active arms and hands. Good rule of thumb if you want to get better…hit balls twice for every one time you play. That doesn’t include a warm up. If you have an hour to practice do 30 min range, 15 chipping, 15 putting. See so many people just go the range and go home without any short game. Agree with spacing out lessons. I’ll see a guy 3 weeks in a row and not see him for 6 months until the wheels fall off and he’s back in the same place. Verse a guy who does 30 min every 2 weeks but stays on a consistent cadence is more preventative maintenance instead of a crash course. Play the long game, be consistent. Having information about the golf swing and properly applying information about the golf swing are two different things. I’m good at what I do because it’s the only thing I do. There is no substitute for seeing golf swings of all skill levels. When I first got to Bridlewood I did a free member clinic where I gave 5 min free lessons. Saw the worst swings and had to make them better immediately. Had to diagnose, problem solve, and apply. That truly made me better. Highly suggest that to other instructors. Got a ton of lessons out of it too besides getting better at instructing.

Question for you zach! I've been trying to learn to hit pull fades because I'm hooking it at the moment "true hook" as you would call it. I won't ask for a tip because I know its just so subjective to everyone's swing, but do you think hitting fades can wear out your back more than draws?
@zachberhow.instruction11 ай бұрын
Why would you change your path when you just need to add loft and open the face more at impact? It’s not a path issue. It’s a loft and club face issue.

Endog, love watching your journey to scratch and have learned so much from it. Not quite sure how you managed to find one of the best instructors ever but you did. Any lesson I've had I've never really felt I knew exactly what I was being told and subsequently never knew how it should feel which is so important but Zach is so hands on and allows you to hold the club whilst he moves it and that is so helpful. I can only imagine how low my handicap would be (I'm 8.7) if I'd had lessons from Zach. Enjoy the rest of your journey.

first of all - your content is great, you and zach make a really nice combo, very insightful and entertaining. thanks for that. because my experience with various coaches as a beginner was very different I decided to try to get better on my own. it seemed to that no coach really addressed the most obvious faults of my swing. as zach often refers to hogan I read his book and watched his drill. this was eye opening and I finally got the feeling to swing. after going down the KZbin rabbit hole of quick fixes I narrowed my sources down to: - Your channel for swing - Dan Grieve for short game - Golf Sidekick for Course Management/Expectation Management This is a great combo so far and so much more fun. So basically these are my instructors now. Maybe I will give lessons a new try next year. best regards from Köln

Great vid thanks for sharing. For me golf teachers are not only divided into draw or fade, there are different kind of releases like body release vs hand release, and older school single plane vs 2 plane etc. The problem is each golfer is unique and different because of their body type, age, flexibility and some ingrain tendencies. Majority of golf coaches will only impose their style of play or teaching methods to their students and sometimes totally reconstruct their swings disregarding their tendencies or preference. It's great that you find a wonderful coach you trust and stick with it. Another drawback I noticed from many of this kind of youtube journey is the student will be good for a while but later will just recede and almost back to square one even with the same coach. I wish you can continue to progress and built up a good foundation that sooner or later your swing will be in a maintenance mode only!

Good stuff, Ernie. You’re absolutely right about finding a coach that’s a good fit. Zach has a gift. He can explain things a dozen different ways until it clicks. He’s incredibly patient and his lessons have been a ton of fun. I’m very grateful for you sharing your journey.

Great video Ernie! Completely agree and Zach is awesome, world-class! As advice to someone looking to take lessons, you may need to shop around to find an instructor that works for you. That part can be tough especially when you are early in you golf journey and don't know what works for you or what good instruction is for you.

Great insights! Thanks for sharing. Lessons have definitely helped my game. Lucky to have a good coach at my home course. Notes after each lesson are a huge help as you mentioned. I also keep a golf journal that has notes from videos I’ve watched or Dr Bob Rotella books I’ve listened to along with notes from each round I play. Recording the good shots and positive memories to reinforce those. 👍🏻👍🏻

Glad that you have been watching some Malaska videos. One of his biggest points is that no one teacher invented anything it's all been done before. There are also many ways to swing the club. Some are easier to be consistent with than others because of how the body moves.

Great insight. For me personally. The instructors that video tape your drills during a lesson and send them to you to work on at home or on a range have given me the best investment in instruction. Instructors that don't, regardless how good they are, it's hard to remember exactly what they wanted you to do, unless your doing the drill with them in front of a mirror.

Ernie, we've got to see you on the course! I know recording can disrupt the rythm of the round, but once a month I think all of us would appreciate even just 9 holes every shot you don't need to talk or anything. A 5 minute video of you playing 9 holes would do great in my opinion. Of course the lessons with zach are awesome I wish I was around the area and could go see him, but I'm shopping for a coach in the area that uses trackman, hopefully to even half the effect zach has had on your game. I don't comment often but I've watched every vid on the channel keep it up man

Another excellent and informative video my friend! I have a couple of questions I would like to ask you if you don't mind sharing. Since you started your video series a little over a year ago, do you know the rough numbers as to how many lessons you've taken and how many hours you've practiced? I am curious as I am starting lessons on February 10th. I do have a Practice Membership at my home course so I get unlimited range balls as well as access to the short game area. Only 40 of these memberships are available so the short game area is never crowded. I also started taking video of my swing so I can see the (hopeful) improvement when I start my lessons. I started a golf exercise program in November of last year and changed my diet a little bit and I have lost about 12 pounds and feel so much better.. My energy levels are much higher than before and I look forward to the upcoming golf season here in Minnesota. Though some courses are already open, believe it or not. I've only gone to the range so far but may golf this week! Many thanks for sharing your journey with us Ernesto!

Hey Danny! Thanks for your support brother! All of them are on my channel so you can go to the playlist and count them up if you want an exact number. I think it’s something like 15 lessons in a year. I typically take them once every 3-4 weeks. I love practicing! I’d say I practice more than I play! I at least practice 2 hours a week in the winter time, and about 4-6 hours when I can be outside (March-November). I play at least 9 holes a week and usually at least 18 a week!
@dannyb.392411 ай бұрын
@@ErndogGolf I appreciate the info! I wasn't sure if there were lessons you had taken that were not recorded. I play more than I practice. I golf 18 holes two or three times per week. I want to increase my practice especially after I start taking lessons and get drills to use. Many thanks!
