Incidents like this are likely a big part of why Lisa's peers are so mean to her. If someone was constantly preaching to me about how I and others should think and act like them, was suffering constant attempts at being converted to being like them and getting treated like I'm stupid for not going along with them, I'd be angry at them a lot too. While Lisa's peers are far from saintly too, I can see why they'd resent Lisa's holier then thou attitude.

At least she learned her lesson from Apu later on (another reason why Apu is such a great character.) Even though Apu is even further into the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle than she is, he understands other people don't share his lifestyle and he never tried to preach/force his views on anyone. Apu is a vegan, he acts with real class and I absolutely respect that.

The ending to this episode is great because not only did Lisa learn her lesson, but Homer accepted that Lisa wanted to go vegetarian (too bad they seem to forget all this in later episodes).

Honestly even as a kid I was so confused as to why the writers made her seem like the protagonist we should support. She never is really punished for her actions and she eventually learns the "moral" from an outside source. If they want to make a character a bitchy vegetarian, so be it. But when they say that the actions of a bitchy vegetarian like ruining someone else's BBQ just for shits and giggles is acceptable, that's when it goes too far.

As a big lover to eat meat, I can only do nothing but shrug at what Lisa did there. I don't hate her character (at least to the extent that quite a few had shown in the comments here), though trying to make a point by preventing others to eat a pig that is ALREADY dead is a bit pointless in itself. On the other hand, I think at the end of the day a lot of us have a certain thing (trait or personality) in ourselves that others may openly criticize or even hate you for...and at least in the end, Lisa learned her lesson. Sometimes you just have to respect others for their lifestyle choices - doesn't give you the right to force others to fall in line, which is her mistake here. (Apply this to today's social issues over sexuality, if you know what I mean.)
