Some sims don't like dirty jokes and usual nice sims doesn't like them :) . Sim with Romance-aspiration have always negative memory with "Go steady", even if she/he wanted that :) . Sometimes Romance-sim have positive memory for engagement, but marry is always negative.

Wasn't your guy a teen when you met him? He should be safe on the multiple lovers because they would all be teens. That teen that walked in the house was probably his teen girlfriend.
