I completely agree. Loading screen definitely breaks up the game. I tend to just stay in the lot when I play sims 4. I am back at sims 3 now.

Curtis did a let's play of THe Sims 3, spent about 10 minutes waiting for the game to boot, while TS4 takes seconds to boot.

01:47 Its not the first time ever multiple families can live in/on an apartment lot. The Sims 2 allowed multiple families in one lot and you could build the lot anywhere you wanted. I'm repeatedly amazed that the second generation of the game has more options then any of the successors. (Please don't read this as me being snooty, I just thought it was important to let you know. THIS!!! This is exactly what I want. I said it in another comment but I think a Neighborhood should have like 15-20 lots, that are all loaded. Then each world should have 5 Neighborhoods that you need to load between.
@Hannahdabeast8 жыл бұрын
I think the sims team needs to work on filling the gaping holes in the game before they start adding more garbage. Like, nobody freaking asked for house gremlins. We want toddlers. Cars. Elevators. Spiral staircases. Pets. They THINK they know how the community uses their game but they're wrong. CC creators want more textures and objects to work with and recolor. Town creators want more freedom to make towns cohesive. Generations players want more slice-of-life interraction and more realism. This adds little more than gameplay hours. Oh, look, the gremlins broke my dishwasher. Oh, look, the neighbors are noisy. Now I have to address this problem with a solution I've ALREADY USED to do other things before this expansion pack! Like, I don't understand the disconnect. I know a LOT of people feel like we should stop complaining, but I can't help it! It's so infuriating! I can't understand why EA and the Sims team care SO LITTLE about the community's reception of their product. If you compare EA to Blizzard or Riot, you IMMEDIATELY see a difference. I play League of Legends, and the way Riot interacts with us is like night and day. There is no shut-down of communication, they address our problems very quickly, even if the answer is, "Sorry, we don't agree with you, and we're going to keep doing this our way for x, y, z reason." For example, at the beginning of this 'season' they introduced a new queuing system. The community hated it. They complained and complained, and at each stage, Riot shared information, data, and at one point A FREAKING SIT-DOWN VIDEO with members of the team and popular streamers/youtubers (Gbay99 if anyone is interested) to discuss why this was good/bad and how they could move forward. However, the community never accepted the change (similar to how we are here with the constant complaining about toddlers) and eventually, Riot gave in. Now, next season, the unpopular queuing system will be gone. I just wish EA cared. I wish EA would listen to us. I wish EA would think, "wow, Simmers are a v dedicated community! we should reward them with the content they ask for!" instead of "wow, Simmers are a v dedicated community! We should USE them as a constant revenue stream and bleed them dry until they run screaming from us in terror!" And as for any developers out there: PLEASE GOD I AM BEGGING YOU TO MAKE A COMPETITOR. Listen to this community and hear what we want! Make a competitor! The reason EA gets to do this to us is because there is nothing else out there like Sims. And when it was ran by a groundbreaking game developer, it showed. Now, all the passion and love is gone from this game. I just want something else. There is so much money to be made here. This community is desperate for something better. Sims has gotten stale. Please, game developers, HELP US.
@TheCurtisParadisShow8 жыл бұрын
Great comment. I agree with alot of what your saying. It would be cool if EA would do an expansion pack simply called "Community Choice" and its just filled with stuff the community wants. Also I agree with you about a competitor, if there was another life simulator it could be an interesting competition.

Thank you for your review. You kept it real and I like that. Also, Curtis did you notice that when you go to complain about the noise to the neighbors no loading screen but to actually visit loading screens. It's like what?! I also wish we had the option to build apartments. For example, if you own dine out and you wanted to add your own restaurant and then build an apartment on top you can't really do that.

In playing the game over the weekend, I noticed that a lot of Sims will magically appear and disappear in various places, not just in and out of the elevator. For example, if I get a group of people together to go to the karaoke bar, everyone will show up and stand there for 3 seconds and then one or 2 people will just disappear like a ghost. I also don't think the hallways are wide enough because my sims walk into each other's bodies all the time. I don't know if these are things they need a patch to fix...I'm not really hopeful because my Sims still sit down when you tell them to put food away...one time, he ran a bath and got into the tub with a book I asked him to put away. I would venture to guess that this is at least in part due to the feature at the elevator. Another thing I'm not crazy about is that anytime you're doing something in your apartment, like cooking or practicing your singing, here comes your neighbor..."sounds like you've got something fun going on, can I come in" or "something smells delicious, mind if I grab a plate." In real life, that would be weird, right?

Thank you for the detailed and honest review. It was very helpful. I agreed with everything you said. I didn't purchase City Living because the world looked very "fake," the restriction of not being able to build your own apartments seemed very limiting, and it seemed as though this pack in particular would make it clear just how much the loading screens and lack of an open world make the game feel limited, repetitive, and lacking in immersion. I was still somewhat tempted to purchase the EP, but after watching this review it looks like my suspicions were correct and I'm glad I didn't waste my $40!

The honesty is greatly appreciated. I have only the base game, and at first i did want this expansion, but after seeing how the elevators don't meet expectations, it may not be such a good idea. I appreciate your open and honest opinions, Curtis! Although, we differ as I really enjoy this pack. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I don't like the loading screens either, but they only take a few seconds on my computer so it doesn't bother me much. I do agree that Bridgeport was awesome, but I had a lot of problems with Sims 3 on the exact same computer which is a good gaming computer. Not sure why that is, but I had to have a lot of Twallan's mods to even make it work. So, I can appreciate Sims 4 working better even though I want an open world as well. I still look forward to all of your videos with Sims 4, so I hope you take the good that you like and run with it!

Thanks for the honest review. I feel like with all the shortcomings this was still a good EP but definitely not worth the nearly year-long wait. It's like they could spend two years on one EP and it'd still have massive shortcomings like the elevators.
@melindabraun23598 жыл бұрын
I really wish people would get over the loading screen thing. This is the Sims 4, not 3. I have an average laptop that can handle every day tasks. My laptop could not handle the Sims 3. After a while, it became so unplayable. Until the recent update that broke everything, the Sims 4 has run perfectly. No lagging and the loading screen would only be a couple seconds. I don't see why it is such a big deal. I would rather have a smooth game than an open world.
@D0MiN0ChAn8 жыл бұрын
But that's exactly the point - there's going to be more EPs,SPs, game packs with a hell of patches each, which will inevitably cause more lag in TS4 as well - regardless of their "precious" loading screens :/ So that's definitely a no-brainer for me, I'd chose a somewhat laggy open world every time over a laggy game with loading screens that just feels rushed & unfinished altogether.
@TheCurtisParadisShow8 жыл бұрын
I get what your saying. I think there is a good middle ground. Maybe there should be neighbourhoods that are 20 lots in total for the area. Once loaded into that Neighborhood you would not have to load to vist your neighbour or goto a shop. But each world would be made up of 5 Neighbourhoods. This way you get an "Open world" feed without the major performance load.
@melindabraun23598 жыл бұрын
TheCurtisParadisShow I agree that the neighborhoods are small. I wish they were larger with more outdoor spaces instead of one lousy park. Unfortunately though, we are stuck with what we are given. Each Sims game had aspects I loved and ones I didn't love. I wish I could combine my favorite parts into one game... Since that is obviously impossible, I try to remember that each game is a seperate game. They are siblings, but not quadruplets. If we keep comparing 4 to the other 3, we will never be satisfied. I feel like this is a real life example of 'member berries (if you watch South Park). Thanks for responding!
@melindabraun23598 жыл бұрын
D0MiN0 You don't know that it will be laggy when the game has more content like the others. That is the point, however, of the loading screens. So that over time the game has a chance of still running smoothly. Although I agree it could have been done differently, I am still pleased with the overall result. It isn't perfect, but I just am not one to complain unless something goes terribly wrong (such as the latest up date).
@MazzySE378 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you're saying here a hundred percent. I LOVED Sims 3. I spent years and years playing it but it came to the point that even my reasonably powerful PC couldn't play it without it having a near constant stroke. Sims 3 is nigh unplayable because the game has to render so many things at once. Which is sad because I do love that game. Up until the new update, Sims 4 ran perfectly for me as well and I LOVE it because of that. I could play it with such ease that I actually can't go back to Sims 3, even if Sims 3 ultimately had far more fun gameplay. I just can't run it so I can't play it.

Hey Curtis. I totally agree with you. I'm the one who enjoys the game play so it's not much of a big deal. On the other hand, I feel that the limitations, like the elevator, are annoying to me also.

Fun fact about me Curtis, when you were talking about loading screens and you said your having fun but then loading screen "I'm bored" back in the day in Sims 2 due to the boredom of loading screens like that I would pick at my desk to where it was all scratched I couldn't really explain it to my dad all I would say was "I was bored" lol :)

Loading screens are ok, not the best I LOVED get together because the clubs and Windenburg is really awesome that's why I was excited for City Living, hoping it would be an improvement. I watched youtubes and was prepared for the little amounts of apartments when EA showed it. What EA and others left out was they were just floors withing ONE apartment, you only get one floor that's it per apt. Ok I got past that quickly because I wanted some of the items in it and more traits for my lots. But what's really terrible now is the glitches the game constantly freezes up

Loved this review Curtis. I agree on nearly everything. I dislike the loading screens but personally I have just gotten use to them and ignore them for the 20seconds but I do hope (major wishful thinking) if they do go on to the Sims 5 they listen to their fans and try and bring some sims 3 aspects back to the game ie: open world or at least a partial open world, the terrible T word - toddlers, the colour wheel needs to come back so we have more choice over colours and patterns rather than just ea content. They just need to try and take on as much constructive criticism from all the fans and build from that.

I cannot begin to describe how much this honest and well-put review means to me, coming from someone like you - now please, don't get me the wrong way here, but ever since you've been invited to sims camp along with other youtube-simmers, I've had the impression that no matter what EA used to throw at the community, everyone who's been there was like "Yaaaay, this is going to be soooo great, unlike everything we've seen before, you should definitely get this, EA has gone great lenghts with this newest EP etc etc". And in some cases, the things really were great - Just not The Sims 4 in general, because the game has taken so many huge steps back from both TS2 & TS3 (which is an absolute no-go, imo). So, to hear from you now that this newest EP isn't in fact as great as they made it out to be - especially in the latest live stream where they really felt like trash-talking Sims 3 Late Night & Bridgeport, which might've been laggy but still a huge open world with a *city feel* to it - is a welcome change :) I feel like EA is not doing as great a job in pleasing "everyone", if you might put it that way, as they used to do - because with TS3 both builders & 'game-players' could enjoy their favourite features of each new EP more thoroughly than it's the case with TS4. So yeah, happy to hear someone other than LGR finally speaking their mind with how things could've been done better! Thank you, Curtis, and keep up the good work :)

loved the honest review! and I agree. I haven't played it yet but from what I've seen it looks like I'll be bored by the time I've tried the new careers out. At the moment I'm actually excited to see the quake zone trait (I really hoped it would be on the base game ) and that table that let you sell stuff. The rest I'm like meh. Not be able to build apartments it's horrible (even tho I'm not much of a builder myself but I love see and play with what you guys create!). It's like instead of having something more it's a normal lot but you can do much less. Could be nice having a "challenge" for a while I guess. And penthouse I think they're kinda ridiculous. In the end they are a normal lot... just different surroundings. And most of the time (from what I saw) they don't even fit with the surroundings and since they're in a city where there is a lot (decorative) stuff nearby they look a bit like an eyesore to me. (at least in the get together that also has a very specific "style" it's easier to pretend that a house fit in there cause there is enough space between that and one pre-made)
@TheCurtisParadisShow8 жыл бұрын
I kinda agree with you on the Penthouse part. They do look like an eyesore most of the time. You need to try really hard to make it look like they blend into the building. Otherwise it just looks like a house on top.

This is by far the best review of City living. From the biggest issue to the slightest one. Tbh after watching this i went to see the Sims 3 late night review and I felt the cramped space feeling Curtis is saying on City Living, the world is huge and you can play just a portion of it. And the background looks fake. There are no additional characters like vampires and stuff, so gets pretty boring after a while. There are a tons of stuff but we didn't see Pool lounge chairs and other stuff that can be added to the gameplay that will make this feel like a city

I loved your review on this expansion pack. So honest and good constructive criticism. It's definitely making me reconsider on getting it at this time. I may wait until origin has a sale on games and then buy it. This definitely was the most informative review on the expansion pack without being rude or super harsh to all the gurus who worked on it. I hope ea takes your review and all your subscribers comments into consideration when making the next expansion pack or game pack or even patch for the game. I've seen a ton of glitches happening and the game not preforming well since the latest patch and since the game actually came out. So I hope a new patch fixing all of those bugs will come out soon. Thank you again for the review.

Great review, Curtis. I agree with most of what you said. I do enjoy the game play aspect, but my main gripe is that I wish the neighborhoods were bigger and had more lots. It bugs me that there is basically, one or two residential lots and only one "business" lot per neighborhood. This is happening mostly in San Myshuno, not as much in another world. Anybody else experienced this after installing this expansion? Otherwise it's the best expansion pack so far!

Like I miss spiral stairs or the option (even with cheats) to build L-Shaped or U-Shaped stairs. I think they could do more with curved walls -- the fences are there-- I feel like it wouldn't be a big jump for walls... you know? Did they make it a closed world because of graphics issues or something? Because in Sims 4 I get most of my crash issues during or right after a loading screen. It's so infuriating. In Sims 3, I rarely had crash problems.
@TheCurtisParadisShow8 жыл бұрын
I think they made it a closed world to cut down on the performance needed to run the larger worlds. But really it seems like a huge step backwards. If you could do open worlds with computers from 2009, surely you could do it better with computers from 2014. Thats 5 years of computer upgrades. Technology moves fast, and I bet the game could have been designed to run even better.
@doakyyy8 жыл бұрын
I understand they want more people to play the game, but some people spend a lot of money for nice built up computers for the purpose of running heavy load games. Not any another big gaming company makes it so almost anyone can run their game. What about games like Overwatch or Skyrim for example. If you don't have the specs OH WELL. They shouldn't go backwards if there's room to go above and beyond with the game. It sucks. :/

While I agree to several annoyances to what Curtis mentions he also is complaining about "base game" issues. So in theory if you do not like how the base game was built in terms of how neighborhoods and worlds are set up you will not like San Myshuno! By now two years later people should know that each world will consists of neighborhoods with only four-six lots per neighborhood. You will not be tied down to a single lot as you can travel in the "public spaces" surrounding it but you do need a loading screen to enter another lot no matter how close or far the lot is. If this format doesn't suit your interest from the very beginning I can understand the issues people will have with them but by now this should not be a surprise to anyone. Me personally I love San Myshuno! I don't feel like I'm living in a box cause there is a lot going on anyway! I prefer the semi-open world cause it helps me focus on one lot at a time helping have a more personal experience instead of having multiple sims across a gigantic world jumping from one place over and over again!

Thank you. I love San Myshuno and my Sims are always out and about. I don't get all that crying about loading screens. Mine are less than a minute, maybe 20 seconds. Nothing in this game takes long and I feel sorry for the people who cannot wait 20 seconds without doing something anymore like a bunch of hyperactive toddlers. I do wonder how those people who are crying because of the less than a minute loading screen managed to wait 10 to 20 minutes for Sims 3 to load at all? I'm so over "We need open world. We need open world"- this game will never be open world so either play it as is or don't, but dear god stop buying expansions only to complain that it isn't open world. Anyone remember how much time was lost in transit in Bridgeport, which is now praised to high heaven? And how it sometimes took the kids and teens an hour or two to get the heck home from school if they did not live close to it? I thought of that as I send my parents to a festival and instantly teleported my kid there after school. The kid was there before 3.30 and in Sims 3 it might have been 5 pm before he arrived. I agree with the personal experience thing. Either I leave some of my Sims at home to do their boring needs stuff while I take one out or they travel as a family. The jumping back and forth in Sims 3 really wasn't all that fun after a while because they were almost never together and large families became pretty much unplayable without making yourself live in a box. The ones at home would NOT take care of their needs properly. So you had to frantically fill the queue of the flirting teen but could not watch how the date reacts to those things because you had to tell his parents at home to pee and feed the toddler.

Thank you for the honest review Curtis. I really enjoyed it and I agree with all that you said in this video, specially the fake buildings, the annoying loading screens, the fake elevators and pretty much everything else. I mean they are just the little things that adds to the game in general and I also prefer Winderbug instead of this city.

Thanks for watching, im glad to hear you enjoyed the review. Lots of fake things in this pack which is unfortunate. I would totally go for "Get Together" as Windenburg is an amazing world.

@thecheck9688 жыл бұрын
I really wish that too but I think that it's too late. A majority of the complaints in the video were all things that were built into the core game. They can do whatever they want, heck add toddlers, but I don't think that I'm going to have much faith in EA for a while

You know I am on the fence. the Gamepacks were amazing till now, Dine out specially. I love playing with restaurants and was more detailed than I wanted. But the EPs except Get to Work were so bad. I want an EP that will make me feel like wow 40 $ is so little for this. Dine Out plus some little more stuff could be an EP (like a world and some things like karaoke). T his EP is very underwhelming. The festivals have almost no real difference in interaction. So basically I would pay 40 for a city world and some food vendors and a few buildings that emulates apt. This is the 1st EP for sims 4 that I am waiting to buy. 1st because has 1293920932 bugs with it that almost makes unplayable (check the forums), 2nd I prefer spending money on the GPs than on this EP.
@addictivegamer1028 жыл бұрын
Lina G Yeah I got City Living during the holiday sale for $20. It still was too much money for what you get though. I actually like the Game packs more than expansion packs since GP's are feeling more and more fulfilling and contain more content than EP's are nowadays. I was so hyped once Get to Work was revealed because I was like "WOW. There's so much content in this! Sims 4 EP's are gonna be amazing!" And I was quickly disappointed...ugh.
@mchobbit29517 жыл бұрын
Lina, I actually think Get To Work was the worst. Sooo boring and zero replay value. City Living and Get Together would be good if they cost a lot less money.

there are lofts, and a 64x64 lot to build on.....also a little house to build on...so you can build houses in san mishuno..yeah...mods make this game and expansion 100x better lol. im just happy theres a basketball court, and a KEYBOARD instead of having a grand piano in my house i can let my sim have a modern keyboard with synth sounds

@TheCurtisParadisShow8 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately from many conversations I have had with EA developers during events I have come to the conclusion that the game is hard coded for this and there is nothing they can do now. All we can hope is in The Sims 5 they will fix this.

Curtis I say that The Sims 2 is better because you could pick the floor that you wanted to live on in the building. you had more places that you could go even with the loading screen and the elevator really did work too. I am so disappointed I work hard for my money and this is what they put out for $40 please this sucks. Five people that I know had stopped playing a year ago. Maybe they should of played the sims 2 and 3 and study the game a little more then we wouldn't have this problem.

Curtis thank you for a great insight of the game and it really had me to think before buying it. I rather wait till go on sale before purchasing this game. I really am disappointed they do not have an open game play like sims 3 and hope that EA can reconsider. hopefully if they bring out a generations sort of pack it will be better than this. Thanks again Curtis!!!

I CANNOT Stand the elevators in the game. They make me so mad. Why incorporate elevators in the game if u can't place them anywhere else but apartments. It's like finish the work and make it where they can go anywhere or just don't do them at all and have stairs instead.
@TheCurtisParadisShow8 жыл бұрын
I have to agree. They seem like an item half done.

elijahthereader I just imagine the devs were just about to animate those doors and EA was like, "it's not in the buget"
@saltystephen56268 жыл бұрын
I mean I can understand why. Like the elevators In the sims 3 were so broken because an elevator should not take you half an hour. But yeah it does kind of suck :(
@linag86248 жыл бұрын
They could at least make the doors open so you think your sims is going somewhere. JUST ANIMATE THE DOORS OPENING damn it :/ If they cant make this animation what type of animations can we expect? Don't even need to make the sims enter it, just pretend the door is opening the sims walk to it and then teletransport. Is enough for me. The way it is (just a decorative object) shows how much cutting corners they did with this EP. I like the city and want this EP but I am waiting till gets cheaper to buy out of principle.
@linag86248 жыл бұрын
But couldn't they just make an animation of doors opening and a sound of elevator coming? The sims didn't need to enter it and ride it. Just make as believe they will :/ better than making a deco object.

I bought this expansion pack sooooo excited about it and I've played it about...maybe 7 hours total now and I'm already getting a little bored with it, which sucks, to be honest. A lot of the point you brought up also bothered me. Now, I don't regret buying it because I love the content and the festivals a lot, but I was underwhelmed considering the hype. I definitely with the world was larger and more open, and I am sooooo disappointed that you can't build your own apartments. I hope they maybe allow it in a patch, because it would be so fun to play with, but I doubt it. It's unclear to me whether you can be a landlord or not, but I wish that were an option.
@akadabrat108 жыл бұрын
I must have been the only person who didn't like Sims 3 or the open world. I do agree about the building aspect bites though. Whenever I get bored of gameplay I like to demolish all the lots in a world and then rebuild it. Like being able to build my own apartment was all I really cared about in the sims 4 and it's extremely disappointing that it can't be done.
@linag86248 жыл бұрын
No I hated it too. I quit after showtime EP. I hated everything about it since day one. I had 0 fun with sims 3. Is clunky, lagging, takes too much time to load the first screen which each expansion added. The world was huge but empty, boring rabbitholes. Sims and cars getting stuck all over the world. looked like pudding face creepy soulless dolls with weird expressions, interactions were boring. Tbh I don't like the whole moodlets idea either. I prefer how sims 2 had fears and wants and needs and sims characteristics and memories. Sims 3 and now sims 4 depends to much on boring moodlets. The interactions between sims in sims 3 and kinda sims 4 are very repetitive boring, that is why I am not a fan of sims 3.

I was so excited for this but now I'm only playing this pack so I can get my £30 worth out of it. I really don't know what's going on with EA but this series (for me at least) has been a huge let down. I can't get lost in this series like i did with the previous 3. I've been playing the sims since 2000 and I can't see myself playing it anymore, i have more fun watching other people play it than I do playing it myself.

I dont want the sims series to become like sim city, and it seems like its going that way. So i guess a game like cities skylines might come in and take over. I would hate for that to happen, i loved the sims 2, the sims 3 was SO much better, and then the sims 4 came in and... Ughh, its... Meh. I cant imagine it but i guess its happening
@Iiquor8 жыл бұрын
why does it seem like every single pack/ep sims 4 comes out with is just like.. taking SOME features from sims 2 and sims 3. and eliminating others. and not really bringing anything new to replace said losses...? I love building in the Sims 4 but game play is extremely weak in comparison to sims 3 or even 2. it's more comparable to sims 1 because that had a lot of the same feel, leaving your house felt very samey. how much do you want to bet when they come out with sims 4 pets it'll have dogs and cats but no horses? ugh.... I was really disappointed to see how closed in this city was too, I know it's not an open world but hell, the neighbourhoods seem far bigger and more interactive on other lots. the only thing I'm excited about is the lot traits for game play, because people are going to come up with some pretty fun challenges!
