Rejoice in the Lord always! How isnthat possible? Because in the Lord there is always something to rejoice about! We believe he is sovereign so anything that he either allows or causes in my life is there for me to grow in Him. And anything in my life no matter how horrific it is, if it causes me tonrun the Christ, is a blessing. Because there is nothing more valuable than my closeness to Christ!

@forest gump bet he is. A Calvinist is one who correctly handles the Word of God since it is the Gospel of Christ. One would say that the apostle Paul was a Calvinist. For Calvinism (the Gospel) shows us that salvation comes thru the Will and means of God's grace and has nothing to do with our decision. For it demonstrates that our will is bound up in sin and therefore is unable to choose Life. Humanistic natural philosophy and theology, like that taught by Jacobus Arminius, refuted by various counsels like the counsel of Dort, condemned such teaching declaring it a heresy as it rightfully should be accepted by any thoughtful Christian intent on growing in the love of Christ. "Less of me, more of You".

I found this sermon most encouraging, leading to the present joy available to us when we stop pretending to be God. This quote comes to mind: "I am always content with what happens; for I know that what God chooses is better than what I choose." Epictetus Worrying gives us a certain satisfaction in the sense of control it gives, but what good does it add to our lives? Isn't worrying mostly unnecessary or even harmful? "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." Matthew 6:33-34 Thank you Doug Wilson from Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC)

Thank you. I "had anxiety" that was easy to present as legitimate loved ones, as it stemmed from a medical condition (severe and multiple allergies), but quickly morphed into fixating on the fear itself. God used the story of Pilgrim's Progress - Christian and Faithfulness crossing the river to meet the Lord - to show me that my fear was sinful and to love my Savior more than my life. Freedom from "anxiety" came after repentance. It is not a message many want to hear, but I am thankful that the Lord brought me to my knees through the grace of guilt. The source of that former fear still exists in my life, but I do not succumb to it anymore. May God bless your faithfulness to His Word.

So good to hear someone else with personal experience! I have really struggled with this the past couple years. I get some success but then life gets hard and scary and my fears and phobias return with a vengeance. It does seem like the root isn’t rooted out yet even after lots of wonderful Godly Biblical counseling. I need to relinquish my hold on my body and health. I struggle with hypochondriac tendencies after living with a very health nut family focused on every feeling and ailment. God is gracious though and I’m learning. Sometimes I think the key is in my hands...just don’t know how to use it.

Worry/anxiety is spoken of all throughout the Bible. So, it should be spoken of more. Especially in today's society; where more and more Christian's are falling into it. Myself included, I've let social anxiety rule over me and now I'm working through it. It helps to know it's definitely sinful to stay anxious; all the more reason to have more discipline and be obedient to His Word!

Pastor, can you please give an example on how to do this in practice, having prudence but not being possessed by the prudence? I’m also very grateful for this sermon and listened to it twice. I was raised in Christian faith where sovereignty of God was never taught as a doctrine and since my coming to knowledge of it by the grace of God, like a lighting strike while doubled over in the midst of having a panic attack, Jesus saved my sanity and my life.

A real comfort for me as I am going through a trial of health. 1 Peter 5:7 is a great reminder as well as the passage from Philippians 4:4-7. Both the NIV and King James translation read as similies. Maybe you should go to scripture for the answer…rather than asking rhetorical questions. That’s the problem with dishonest rebuttals: you didn’t want the answer, you assumed it, and then used that assumption as a rhetorical device. 🤷🏻‍♂️ How do I know you’re being dishonest? The crux of the sermon was that worry is sin. Christians believe Jesus was sinless. So of COURSE “we” wouldn’t call that “worry.” You know that. But your purpose isn’t to ask an honest question, it’s to take a shot at disproof. Had you legitimately wanted the answer, you would have looked it up (the Bible is a book, and literally every verse is available in every translation in every language, online). But you had to be told. Because you aren’t looking. Seek the truth more. Make rhetorical points less.

We are accountable and responsible. We are certainly not in the back seat of a car not in control. Joseph was given a dream. So he prepared to survive 7 years of famine. We are not to take the back seat on any concern. We are not to worry when its humanly impossible to change a situation.
