Ive always said that music flows thru me and my entire body. I was blessed with perfect rhythm. And have found it to better than most drummers. So everbody fallows me..(like Keith Richards) and its beautiful..

This is something I struggle with. I’ve noticed that if I just play along to a click track, or a full drum backing track, I can stay in time. But when I get rid of the audible click and just use my foot, everything falls apart.

I was just going through this today! I knew the chords and I knew the words, but I kept playing it until I could do both on time! I agree with you 100%.

I agree. Tapping to the beat, moving to the rhythm whilst I'm playing or even just listening, comes naturally to me, like it's rooted deep within my soul.

You are absolutely correct. I've been playing guitar and bass for over 30 years. When I first began at the age of 12, I had a guitar teacher who was phenomenal. From day one, he told me to always tap my foot along with every thing I play. I hated having to do that because that's not what I signed up for I wanted to rock out. But I did what he told me and years later When I went into the studio To record my first record, having that skill to keep time and play in the pocket was more beneficial to me than almost anything else

Get that damn foot tapping. You and one other guitar teacher I’ve had, drilled this into me. It took me a few months of extreme focus to get it down, but man did it make playing so much more enjoyable. Thanks again for the great instruction!

I can play in time but im having trouble singing in time. I have speech problems along with a lot of nerve damage that make it hard for me to keep up even just talking sometimes. Maybe i should work on singing in time by itself as im really working on being able to sing while i play.

Good luck. You'll get there. it's awesome to hear your story and not giving up just because of something being a challenge.

Hello Claus. When it comes to improvising should you be able to know which scale degree you're on at all times? I've practiced the scale degrees by playing the major scale in sequences for many hours, but when I play along with slow jam tracks I try to identify what note I'm landing on as I play but it's too fast for me to keep up. I thought maybe it would be a good idea to know the scale degrees as you play so that you can see where the triad and arpeggios are within the scale without just memorizing the spots they are in. or if I'm playing and I think that a 6th interval would sound nice. sorry I don't know if this is the wrong way to go about it

My bandmate has a very bad internal metronome. Whenever the drums and cymbals disappear, his speed gets erratic. I've suggested practicing with a metronome, but he doesn't want to. 😑
