This was back during apartheid South Africa in June 1985. I wasn't a great fan of Echo & The Bunnymen, but someone gave me their T-shirt. A local from an alternative nightclub wanted it and said he'd give me a record for the shirt. It was First and Last and Always. Changed my life. I started DJing that year, and Sisters was a big part of our alternative anti-apartheid movement in Durban. Going back through their early catalogue was insane. The Body Electric version on the Body & Soul EP is unbelievable. What a great band, and these BBC Sessions are so ridiculously brilliant.

I consider myself very fortunate to have a seen the 'Sisters of Mercy' on the very hot and beautiful day on April, 26th 1985 live at the infamous 'Zeche' in Bochum, Germany , which was my first ever concert at the age of 15. We called ourselves 'New Waves' back then. We dressed mainly black, wore pointed ankle boots, used hairspray and make-up, we danced to The Cure, Fad Gadget, Neon Judgement, Alien Sex Fiend, Skinny Puppy, Anne Clarke, etc and of course Sisters who were the top New Wave act from 1983 to 1985.. We were proud not being mainstream in most ways. Met some extraordinary people of whom some are still in my life today. Those times were one of the most memorable in my life which shaped me in so many positive ways. At least. I hope so. Peace & be wild

one of the most memorable times in my life, going to small gigs in around 82 and seeing sisters up close, without smoke or gimmicks, just the band with Andrew in his jeans ripped at the knee and leather jacket , churning out those amazing screams during Floorshow etc. i still feel the hairs on my neck standing up to think about it now. great days, how i wish i could go back. Eldritch, Marx, Gunn, Adams, the band who had the biggest influence on my life, here paired up with John Peel, the most important person in my life outside of my own family.

I remember seeing them in their Marx/Adams/Eldritch/Hussey/Avalanche heyday at the Studio in Bristol, circa 85. We met them after and I remember Wayne Hussey's parents being there as he's from Bristol. His dad told me that Wayne used to sit in the garden shed and play guitar until his fingertips bled. Such a formative time in my life and still seeking it out on YT 35 years later. Hope you're all staying safe.

Excellent, thank you, my favourite band of all time. They recorded at a studio near where I live, it was a lad in the same year as me at schools Dads studio called Ric Rak studio on the Kirkdale estate in Wortley Leeds. The first time I saw them was at Leeds Student Union Riley Smith Hall 1982. That was it I was hooked.

We were together since we were five She was so pretty Emma was a star in everyone's eyes And when she said she'd be a movie queen Nobody laughed With her face like an angel She could be anything Emmaline Emma Emmaline I'm gonna write your name high on that silver screen Emmaline Emma Emmaline I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever seen At seventeen We were wed And I worked day and night to earn our daily bread And every day Emma would go out searching for that play That never, ever came her way And sometimes she come home and she'd be so depressed I'd hear her crying in the back room and feel so distressed And I'd remember back when she was five To the words that used to make Emmaline come alive It was... Emma Emmaline I'm gonna write your name high on the silver screen Emmaline Emma Emmaline I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever seen It was a cold and dark December night When I opened up the bedroom door To find her lying Still and cold upon the bed A love letter lying on the bedroom floor It read, Darling I love you But I just can't keep on living on dreams no more I've tried so very hard not to leave you alone But I just can't keep on trying no more Emmaline Oooh Emma Nooo Emma Emmaline
