For their recruiting, I always figured that their "specific" rules are there mostly just for show. That likely most of their recruits are orphans or illegitimate children with women other than the Noble's legal wives.

Given that this is warhammer fantasy, it wouldn't surprise me that they would take in orphans and bastard children. Basing this on medieval times, orphans would likely be taken in by clergy etc and the illegitimate children would need protection from those who would wish them to not exist in order to expunge the evidence of their infidelity

Anyone else can simply be marked as a serf or attendant rather than a full sister when it comes to the public record. By the time they move up the ranks and give up their birth names... its too late for anyone outside the order or even inside the order at that point to know the difference.

Makes twice as much sense when you consider things like the blind sisters or any sisters that get injured in combat. I doubt many nobles would marry a grizzled blind woman who has lost an arm in combat while her face looks like an angry bear used it for a chewtoy. My best guess is that they use this for 'prestige' and to get a bit of 'nobility power' when they trade for gear and supplies. Nobles are far more likely to get a better trade or decent gear than a no-name.

I think you can have a really good xcom style of game about them, either that or like “this is the police” 1 except every once in a blue moon you come out as the boss lady and that is a biblical level event where a chaos lord or greater daemon comes out to say hi and in a ideal world at least it becomes something like doom slayer. you could have it like brutal legends, one part top down one part rts.

although you joke about it, i think there is a distinction between faith based miricles and “magic” as it were. yes they call upon the warp, but they do so in qualitatively diferent ways. faith stuff calls upon the tenents of a belief with rigid aspects, while a mage follows more flexible formulas and experimentation. a sublime singular truth as opposed to a changing field of study. in a way, it might be more similar to dwarf runecraft in its technical elements of how it works. stiking to a safer, but often less overtly flexible source of supernatural power as a side note, always thought the sisters of sigmar were an interesting part of mordheim. the idea of a fortified convent that got a divine revelation before a cataclysm, locked themselves up and became the only real non tainted survivors that now hunt in the post apocalypse is pretty rad.

Well chapter master valrek did a video on it this morning. There is one page dedicated to Yariks death but he didn't know how he did just that GW confirmed his death and it wasn't by a Ork. But did die on Armageddon. And there is a new Aggron model coming out soooo the deamon primarch might be the cause. What pisses me off is the page is mostly prayers to the Emperor,religious litanies and what not and doesn't say how he did but that he did in the glorious service of BIG E. And it's handle very flippantly

The fantasy Chernobyl Liquidators, and I didn't realize how awesome that sounds until I wrote it out. But yeah the recruitment should be something like Game of Thrones Nightwatch, a prestigious option for nobles (and convenient way to bloodlessly dispose of rival family members), a decent option for poor and orphaned, and a great way to occasionally clean out the dungeons.

I imagine that the abbey in Altdorf handles alot of the introductory training, so the "novices" who are sent have probably been through the equivalent of a boot camp in a somewhat safe city, before travelling to Mordheim. Also, "Upper" nobility can be a very large amount, as it contains anyone who owns land and isn't just a court functionary.

Speaking of rehashes, it would be interesting to get your take on how Skaven could theoretically operate in the 40k universe. How much of their lore and culture would you change, and of what they keep how would it scale up to fit in 40k? Additionally what sort of history could they have if they had been brought in 40k from the beginning to how if at all GW could reasonably introduce them now.

​@@vadandrumist1670 Instead of rising up to devour Kavzar, the skaven descend from former slaves who took over an eldar city during the Fall. Now the masters, the skaven adopt several aspects old eldar society, including slavery, factional gangs, a culture of scheming, flesh-crafters etc. The population of Skavenblight explodes and the skaven migrate through the Webway to infiltrate the hive cities of man and overthrow human planets. Farseers and Harlequins suspect the ratmen's instinctive ability to navigate the Webway is because the Chaos Gods created them to corrupt the arterial dimension. Of course, the skaven will have some issues coordinating a galactic-level society. It would require some sci-fi means by which the Council and Grey Seers are maintaining control. Actually, if you wanted to entirely replace Commorragh with Skavenblight, you could make the skaven sadistic vampires, perhaps drawing on east asian myth. But then Slaanesh would hold a monopoly on the cenobite aesthetic.

I'm not sure to what extent it was destroyed by Magnus, but I was under the impression that everything was basically wiped out in terms of the creepy crawlies and every struture reduced to dust. Which is why this video didn't make sense to me either.

The Sisters of Sigmar do eventually win, sort of. Magnus the pious, after beating Chaos, took his army and cleansed Mordheim, by leveling it. That's why Mordheim takes place in the past. In the 'current' time of the Old World, Mordheim is nothing more than I haunted and desolate pile of rubble. No warbands search for warpstone there, unless it's Skaven by tunneling.

Sometimes a rehash doesn't have to be terrible. I think part of them not just being Sisters of Battle Again is that the Warband doesn't have access to firearms, which is strange but clearly a game mechanics sort of thing, unless they preserve their cannon and guns to defend the Abbey then the need all the powder and tubes their.

SoS in the Mordheim game... armor up, find a choke point, and grind the enemy warband down on your front line. and beat their brakes off with hammers on the sides and with your Matriarch casting Sigmar Meteor. Hire a merc or two that have ranged combat abilities to supplement your magic user. they don't do anything fancy, but what they do is solid frontline combat as long as a unit isn't caught out of formation.

Maaaaybe Skaven are reason why the Rock is able to contain all that warp-stone "contained". What if Skaven decided to leave warp stone collection to sisters while they have dug tunnel to vault and are taking all that stone which sister deposit there? Warp is not oozing from the vault because Skaven keep clearing it up.

I just saw the weirdest thing. You know those forklifts that have long telescoping arms? I saw a butchered cow carcass hanging from one ~50 feet in the air. That's very strange my best guess is somebody started butchering it got tired decided he'd finish it tomorrow then hung it high so coyotes wouldn't get to it. Of course it won't be long before the Ravens start peking at it, it really should be in a walk-in freezer. With no effective birth control (plus, you know, needing spares in case there's a plague or war or something), nobles often had excess of children. Thus the extras would often be sent to convent or have to find their own way in the world. Of course, real world convents didn't have to deal with the sort of attrition Sisters of Sigmar do, but otherwise...

One of the worst warbands to fight in the computer game. Armor, high moral, lots of healing, and often enough melee skill to hit and evade more then average. Oh and their AI is just smart enough to know not to spread them out most the time so they often form into a hammer and come crashing down on you the instant you are spotted. at least most of them cannot climb or jump to save their lives.
