I think a series called "Bargain Wars" could be a worthy successor to scrapyard wars. It's basically what Linus tries to do with buying and selling stuff to increase his budget. But extended to be the entire point of the series. 2 contenders. $100. Goal is to build the most expensive system and they have 4 weeks buy and sell everything.

Damn, as soon as I saw the XL2411 w.r.t. DisplayPort I got anxious because I had an XL2411Z for a long time. It does not have DP and it only reaches 144 Hz over Dual-Link DVI. You actually need an active DP to DVI-DL adapter, passive ones only work up to 60 Hz. For me, the only one available at the time was a StarTech adapter which went for $100...

The dreaded XL2411!! You won't get it working at 144 Hz except for DVI. Active adapters exist but are a big chunk of the budget for this project, probably around $120-150 somewhere...

Yeah, those early high refresh rate DVI-only displays (such as the Catleap or Wasabi Mango) are sneaky! Some of the old ~$50 Dell Bizlink 0XT625 adapters work well (I used one on an old 2560x1600 Dell 3007WFP panel with a 3070 for a little bit), but it's not something you can usually just find lying around the office any more. A cheap, passive HDMI to DVI adapter will get them a 1080P 60Hz output, enough to use the system at least. Benchmarks will have VSync disabled anyhow. The kicker I guess is whether or not they notice the lower refresh rate while playing around with the OS and dock points for it. David or Ploufe would definitely notice, but I don't know about Riley or some of the others. Drama! Suspense! :)
