When it comes to OTR, Westerns are the best, imo. Gunsmoke will always be my #1, but I think The Six Shooter comes in second. I wish they'd done another season or two.

This episode was used in the TV series The Restless Gun, broadcast Feb 3/58 and featuring a knockout performance by veteran radio & TV western actor John Dehner.

With television looming, advertising bucks for radio were shrinking fast. So, even as good as this series was, Six Shooter never obtained a sponsor. After just one season, The Six Shooter was dropped. Thankfully though, we do have these episodes to enjoy, with pretty good audio quality.

Liggett & Myers wanted to sponsor the series- but Jimmy refused to be associated with a tobacco sponsor, and wouldn't budge {that's what Jack Johnstone said). No other advertisers were interested- and the program ended that June. L&M [Chesterfield] sponsored "GUNSMOKE" on CBS, instead (beginning that July). With the exception of the NBC Symphony Orchestra (at 6:30pm(et), for Socony-Mobil), NONE of the Sunday night programs on NBC that season had sponsors.....that's why their schedule kept changing that season. "THE SIX SHOOTER" moved to Thursdays in April......

Our loss. This was better than most of the early TV shows-my hind sight opinion. 🤔

The irony is this recent report : "According to recent Nielsen data, based on audience reach, radio is currently considered "bigger" than television, meaning more people listen to radio than watch television, especially among the 18-49 demographic, with radio having a larger weekly reach and average audience compared to TV"
