This was marketed as horror when it first came out, and I was scared to death of watching it. But once I did, I realized it's one of the sweetest, most touching stories with a cast of actors who acted the shit out it. I don't think there was a dry eye in my theater at the end.

44:15 Cole never thought he had an adult with him, he knew from the first moment that Dr. Crowe was dead. Remember the very first scene where they met? Cole left the house, stopped the moment he saw the Doc and ran away immediately. That's because he knew that the doc is dead. If you rewatch the movie you'll notice lots and lots of hints that are super obvious once you know the twist but are completely overlooked on a first watch by almost everyone.

The red was a symbol that the dead are nearby. Anna wears a red shawl at night whrn Malcolm is home. The doorknob to the basement office is red. The church door is red. Cole's sweater is red and he chases a red balloon at the birthday party. There are a million more other scenes to clue you in. But notice that everything is a fade-to-black except the last scene, which fades to white for Malcolm.

I love how time can take back a film. When this came out, the iconic first twist was, "I see dead people." Was used in the trailer, but no one could guess the second twist when it initially came out. Then everyone spoiled it. Now, enough time has passed that the twist is blindsiding a new generation.

The boy actor is Hailey Joel Osment. He was indeed a phenomenal child actor. Bruce Willis during an interview said about working with Hailey Joel that he was the most professional actor that he'd ever had the privilege to work with. You can watch Hailey Joel Osment in other great movies like A. I. Artificial intelligence, Second Hand Lions, and Pay It Forward. He'll definitely blow you away with his acting chops in these movies as well. The movie A.I. where Hailey plays a child android . The director said that Hailey all on his own decide that a real android would have no need to blink his eyes. So all through the arguably very long but still enjoyable, movie, Hailey doesn't blink during a single scene of the entire movie. That's exactly the level of professionalism that Bruce Willis was describing during his interview. Hailey is all grown up now. But he's still acting and apparently still enjoying himself.

The cinematographer, Tak Fujimoto, likes to use red to show emotionally charged moments or moments of violence or death. I love this movie -- one of my all-time favorites, since I saw it in the theater, when it first came out. It's even better when you watch it knowing the twist because you notice all sorts of other details and it becomes this beautiful, heartbreaking story. I get all teary eyed every time I see the scene in the car at the end. Thank you for reacting to it.

There is a second twist in the movie that hardly anyone notices, if you can call it that. Malcom's wife was also haunted...by Malcolm. She couldn't move forward with her life because Malcolm was still present. She felt his presence and also in the one scene where Malcolm got angry about the other man, he shattered the window. So he also actively prevented a new relationship for his wife. So the last words were also important for his wife to hear. She needed it to finally be able to go on living. Btw. It was very clear that the doctor didn't know he was dead until he noticed the missing ring. In addition to his surprised expression, there is also the fact that the boy said 2 times in the movie that the ghosts don't know that they are dead and see what they want to see. How much more clearly should this be presented to everyone?
@zbennalley
@zbennalley Күн бұрын
I saw it the same way Malcolm is haunting his wife, but Malcolm's need to fix his mistake won't allow him to leave her, and every time he's gone, she's actively healing herself/moving on.

@@tapoemt3995 Who says he gets it? He worked it out himself. As you could see at the beginning, he only observed the boy before he got in touch with him. And as the boy said, ghosts only see what they want to see. They make up the world in which they ghost around, i.e. as they like it or imagine it. That means he doesn't have to have been requested, he just believes that it is so. How long he has watched the boy since then has not been shown. Just the last bit. Maybe there is also a higher power that has assigned to him and he just doesn't know it. Questions that interest no one and contribute absolutely nothing

I think in the scene where we saw the mother who had murdered her child wearing the red dress was really meant to show you that this mother had a need to attract attention (Who would ever wear a red dress to any funeral, let alone your own child's funeral?). The women had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, which is a psychological disorder marked by attention seeking behavior by a caregiver through those who are in her (it is almost always a female disorder) care.

When I was 3, I was convinced there were monsters under my bed. My mom could not convince me otherwise. That night, however, my aunt and her kids were at the house. My cousin, Billy was 8. She asked him if he could convince me there were no monsters under the bed. Billy went to his truck and came back with a hammer and went into my room. 2 minutes later he came out and said I was asleep. My mom was confused. "How did you do it?" she asked. He said "I gave him the hammer and told him that 'If you see any monsters, HIT 'EM WITH THIS!!!'" When my mom peeked into my room, I was asleep with my arms wrapped around the hammer. 🙂 I don't know why I tell you this story, but I thought it was appropriate for this movie.

Cole knew Bruce Willis was dead. Early in the movie, before Cole and Willis even meet for the 1st time, we see Cole running, and Bruce Willis following him. Cole is trying to run away from Bruce Willis. And Cole correctly knew that Willis could successfully communicate with his wife if he talked to her when she was asleep. Which is not a way living people communicate with each other. And the reason Cole was so upset, and said "You're the only one who can help me, I know it" (when Willis told him he could no longer be his therapist), is because Cole figured that the only person who could help him would be someone who was dead
@dannykent6190
@dannykent6190 20 сағат бұрын
I also think there's some subtle hinting when they meet in the house too. Cole doesn't want to talk to him there, partially because he's still scared, but also because his mother is in the next room over and he doesn't want her to hear him engaged in conversation with no one. That's why he's willing to play the question game. Malcom does most of the talking. He just needs to react. Anywhere else they meet, he openly responds.

"They only see what they want to see..." Hence why Malcolm struggled to gain access to his basement: it was blocked off by a desk -- he just couldn't see it. I remember watching this as a boy with my father. I figured Malcolm died in the beginning, but the revelation is crazy! Red has a special meaning in the film: they specifically use it to point out that something is haunted -- frequented by spirits. It has to be ghosts -- entities that died painfully and/or left unfinished business.

Great reaction like always. The attention to detail in this movie is amazing and makes it a fun rewatch. Every time there's a ghost and a human nearby there's something red. A red balloon leads Cole up the stairs at the birthday party. Cole's safety tent is made of red blankets. The horrible mother at the funeral is wearing red. The inexplicable changes of temperature from normal to so cold that you can see the characters’ breath can be explained by the fact that it only gets cold when a ghost is upset. So well done. There are others fun-facts about it, Walt Disney Studios' then-president David Vogel didn’t bother to consult with his superiors before paying $2.25 million for the rights to The Sixth Sense, and agreed to let Shyamalan direct the already-expensive film. Vogel’s boss was livid when he found out about the deal, and demanded that Vogel relinquish some of his power. When Vogel refused, he was canned. Actor Donnie Wahlberg lost 43 pounds for his role of Vincent Grey, changing his appearance so much that director M. Night Shyamalan did not even recognize him on the first day of filming. The inexplicable changes of temperature from normal to so cold that you can see the characters’ breath can be explained by the fact that it only gets cold when a ghost is upset. Shyamalan regretted casting himself as dr. Hill, He did it as a “nice little thing” to acknowledge his parents, who are both doctors. Unfortunately, the actor Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan wasn’t good enough for his director: He thought his acting was so bad that he cut most of his scene. Cole speaks a Latin phrase in church upon meeting Malcolm: “De profundis clamo ad te domine.” These are actually the first few words of Psalm 130 in The Bible. Translated into English, thy mean, “Out of the depths, I cry to you, O Lord.” This movie story it’s similar to an episode of are you “Afraid of the dark” the 1994 episode “The Tale of the Dream Girl” shares a similar storyline to this movie, where a teenager named Johnny doesn’t realize that he’s dead until the very end of the episode, even though the only living person that talks to him is his sister Erica. (The audience doesn't realize it either.) This movie was one of only five horror movies to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. The others were Jaws, The Exorcist, The Silence of the Lambs, and Black Swan. It was also the only one of these movies that did not win any Academy Awards. Keep up the good work.

If you like the actor who played Cole (not remembering the name as I type) let me recommend Secondhand Lions ( 2004 ) I don't ever see it recomended except by me. It's an amazing gem of a story and has a really good cast. Whether you film it as a reaction or not, you should watch it and laugh. Hayley Joel Osment, Michael Caine, Robert Duvall, and Kyra Sedgewick are in this. Most important of all, I think you might like it. Thank you for sharing your response to Sixth Sense. It's a good movie that after all the hype over the years, I bet you were a little afraid it couldn't possibly be as good as people said, over hyped. I'm always impressed that people don't spoil new viewers and let them find out the biggest secret on their own. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Be safe.

When Cole is at the funeral and about to enter the child’s room, he reaches up to a highly polished metal doorknob and we can see Cole reflected in it, but there’s no Bruce Willis standing behind him. Nobody ever looks at or interacts with Willis at the family funeral. I should have seen that, but I didn’t first time around. Brilliant writing. Shyamalan appeared in the movie as the ER physician,

Dang, gf you have reminded me of someone every time I've watched one of your reactions and I've FINALLY pinned it down... a young Lauren Hutton. I think it's the smile and the laugh (minus the diastema ofc). 😍😍😍

Don't feel bad about crying. Everyone does and the very reason people watch these reactions is so they can remember the first time they saw the film and can cry along with you. And this one really brings it out by all the ways it fools you. IT ends or at least you think it ends when Cole helps the little girl. But then they have that scene with his mother and you realize, Oh yeah that situation needs to be resolved too. And that scene gets you big time. But then it takes you back to Malcom so he can have his encounter with his wife and you are thinking, well that sonds pretty anticlimactic. How can they expect to top the scene you just saw with Cole's mother. And then you get hit with the big whammy and you get knocked for the biggest loop in the movie. What a screenplay. And thanks for sharing your reaction to it with us.

Not a diagnosis, but the little girl's mom might have a condition called "Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy". Munchausen's syndrome is when someone harms themselves or claims to have illnesses to get attention. The "by proxy" designation applies when caregivers hurt others so that they get attention for the person they hurt and themselves. It seems to present commonly in mother-child relationships as well as in healthcare workers.

You should watch The Kid with Bruce Willis. Along with this movie it was part of a 3 movie deal for Willis with Disney.
