I am here on 19.07.23 Yesterday we said goodbye to Lester Sterling, saxophonist and founding member of the legendary band, The Skatalites, at his Service of Thanksgiving at the Holy Cross Church in Half Way Tree. It was his wish to buried in Jamaica after living in the United States for a number of years. Lester ‘Ska’ Sterling was the last remaining member of the original Skatalites horns men. In 1988, he was awarded the Order of Distinction for his pioneering contribution to the development of Ska and Reggae music. We are so pleased and thankful that his widow, Theresa, has donated the saxophone with which he made such great music to the Jamaica Music Museum.

It's good... Too good... That's why it's bad. It's not the Skatalites as I would recognize them, even though maybe there was still one or two original members playing along for this album... I just prefer the old imperfect recordings from the 60's... It is my opinion that part of the charm of this music is lost when everything is perfectly in tune... To me, it doesn't sound "rude", neither rough, nor tough; it sounds like something you might hear while a Presbyterian Jamaican Dentist is pulling your teeth. 👎
