wow what a find, I was there it was my first gig, my mate and I were only 14. in 2018 we met up again having lost touch since our early 20's at the Glen Pavillion to see the Skids again, and they were yet again brilliant.

Just found my ticket for this gig in a scrap book. First one I ever went to. Thanks for posting this. Currently warm fuzzy feeling and great memories flooding back. Very sad that Stuart took his own life. World's a poorer place for it. Miss his talent and humanity.

Finally a good recording but Yes the keyboards are way to high in the mix. It was a guitar based band. Also I don't hear any of my electronic sounds. That you get on other recording from the same tour

The recording from Newcastle certainly is better for your drum sounds.

Thanks for posting mate. This brings back memories of when I first saw Skids around a month later in Aberdeen. The keyboard arrangements were certainly developed in the studio by Bill Nelson however they are performed live here by band member Alistair Moore. From the levels I suspect that it is from Alistair's monitor feed that this recording has been taken.

Actually it's from a cassette given to band members and tech crew, Virgin recorded the gig for a live release that never happened. It was a quick and dirty downmix from the multi tracks, little to no balancing and no effects, totally dry. I know this as i was sent the files by the owner of the tape who worked for the Skids at the time of this recording, he had copied the tapes to PC and had a go at doing something with it. He sent them to me to have a go at... Took me a lot of hours trying to take care of drop-outs etc as the tape was 30 years old at the time. The channels were out of phase, so I fixed that along with balancing the channels, I added a litte compression, eq, reverb and widened the sound stage to what you hear now. As for the keyboard levels nothing i could do without lowering stuart's guitar as well. Near the end you will notice that Stuart's guitar changes channels, this was because of problems with his amp, so he switched to Richard Jobson's. My wife designed artwork for it (she works in graphics) based on an original design by another Skids fan. He gave it the name as well as supposedly 'War Themes' was the working title of 'Days In Europa'. I am an amatuer at doing this sort of thing, mainly self taught using Adobe Audition 3 and Logic Pro. My eldest son has a B-Tec in live and studio sound so gave me a few pointers as did Russell Webb of the Skids, as he is a friend of mine and lives near me.

It's interesting to hear the 'new' songs (that are now total classics) be greeted with general apathy. The keyboard player needed to turn down his volume though. He was drowning out Stuart.

Fantastic sound quality. Why oh why did they overcomplicate the set with that god awful keyboard? No need, skids where good enough with raw guitars and vocals
