Stuart's guitar is simply mesmerizing. Live version never disappoints.

Stuart - legend - genius - brilliant songwriter / guitarist - arguably the most under-rated musician ever ??

Stuart makes every song come alive, even the most 'boring' song, at least in my opinion. Really love this talented man. ❤️

A glimpse of what was to come had Stuart stuck with it. Cant help feeling sad even though I was a massive Big Country fan.

I really dig this version...but I like the album version as well...just different feel. I agree that the Skids were not really the Skids without Stuart. But I do think "Joy" is a pretty good album in its own right.

William Stuart adamson why did you leave us all… a tremendous human being father and unique guitarist.. met you twice at big country sound checks Glasgow Apollo where I worked as security.. first time your wife Sandra was with you also a lovely human being… a highland dancing champion.. lovely lady.. she said to me standing behind Stuart don,t get him started on football, I was a passionate rangers man then and asked him what about the rangers.. stupid of me being a music fan.. and Stuart said am a proddy but prepare Celtic…. He was an awesome presence to be next too.. and being a skids fan I was in a good place that sound check day 1983.. he did the full crossing track as a sound check… mind blowing.. then he and Sandra came up the middle aisle to speak to me… ohhfft

First of all, I love it. One of my favorite Skids song, this version. Second, Richard gets so much hate for not doing well here, but remember two things, first of all: Stuart had to teach him how to play guitar for this tour. Second of all: Stuart doesn’t do so hot either. His playing and the song is great, there are just some missed bends and questionable phrasing some places, BUT that’s what it’s supposed to be. Either way you look at it, they’re playing new songs live, and as expected, they’re still working out kinks. That’s what gives it charm.

Had no idea how good they were live. Is this available on cd/dvd anywhere can anyone tell me? would be a great driving song,very stirring stuff.

Adamson left the band before recording the next album, so there's no recorded band version. The entire RGTC concert is available on KZbin though.

I had a perv at the Yamaha site and they dont know seem to have SG models currently but SBG 1000 and 2000 models look pretty close,there is mention of the Celebrated SG 1000 and 2000 series so Germo I think wins the cigar on this occasion.What a bunch of anoraks we are (well me anyway)wish I could actually play a guitar!

This song had amazing potential. Awesome guitar work from Stuart. Jobson could've at least tuned his. Song was totally ruined on "Joy," imo.

It's an absolute sickener that this live arrangement including Stu isn't available in decent quality on any official release and it begs the question why didn't they just do a session or record it while they were practicing? If Jobson didn't ruin the beginning with his non-existent guitar skills this might just be my favourite live skids track. Even over 'Incident in Algiers' on the old grey whistle test which is off the known scale and includes Billy Currie on electric violin as I recall. Don't get me wrong I think Jobbo is one of the best frontmen in the business but he's not getting away with it here on guitar. They should have brought John McGeogh in as a rhythm guitarist and stayed together. You'd have my dream band right there. Adamson's sound was progressing at such a rate that he just ran out of hands and without multi tracking couldn't do all the guitaring he wanted live hence Jobson having to 'muck in' (unfortunately). It ruins the start of the track as Richard struggles with the relatively simple task of a few strums IN TIME with the rest of the band. It's cringeworthy at best. To be fair only about as cringeworthy and awkward as Adamson's fronting of Big Country but that's just my opinion. The Skids as a 6 piece with McGeogh and Currie on keyboards would have torn a hole in the space time continuum. Maybe somewhere, in another dimension that is happening right now.

The world of music would have been changed by a six-man Skids, you’re right. Also thanks for the Incident in Algiers recommend, I hadn’t seen it.

Totally agree Webb was superb and a massive influence on the skids direction sound wise when he arrived in the new line up for absolute game with the brilliant Mike Bailey. Every single member of the skids at any point in their various line-ups was a superb musician. Jobson and Adamson would never tolerate passengers (thank goodness). Webb was superb in 'the armoury show' as well who I feel are in with a shout as the most underrated band in the history of music and far superior to big country in my opinion. I loved Stu to bits but he was never a frontman just like Jobson can't play the guitar for toffee (see video). The Skids are my favourite band I've seen live, only the Jam were in the same league and maybe the Stranglers who were quite brilliant. Some great bands back then. What happened?
@briandonnelly8749 Жыл бұрын
No need for Richard having a guitar stick to dancing and singing let the musicians play .😉🙃 all good otherwise
