302 "likes" and 4 "dislikes" - why do people have such sad lives that they come here just to make a point ?!?! Stuart, one of the best lyricists, guitarists and singers of a generation...................

Man, I hear that e-bow in my soul. My favourite BC track ever. Always in our hearts, Stuart.

the mainstream people of the generation who think of BC as a one hit wonder are, well... the kind of people who didn't listen to our kind of music. this and the long version of wonderland were/are my favourite big country songs. met them on The Crossing tour of the US. they were memorably nice/graciously shy- Stuart seemed almost embarrassed by all the attention when off stage. like many, i suppose, when listening to songs like this, they bring back memories and the energy is contagious, but at some point there's some sadness given how it all ended for Stuart....

Barbedwire Kisses I’m with you on the favorites. Some others that I find amazing are the extended versions of Chance, East of Eden, Where the Rose is Sown and even the extended version of Look Away. Mark’s drums are mind blowing. I’m a real sucker for that dirty kind of bittersweet sound of tracks like Prairie Rose, Steel Town and Tall Ships Go. What a band !
@jesse63274 жыл бұрын
I know, especially when you consider that Steeltown (in my opinion) was actually a better album than The Crossing.

Remember watching this live on 'The Tube' all those years ago and being utterly awe struck. No other band comes close to the depth of sentiment, passion and class so sadly missing these days in popular music. God, I miss them. R.I.P. Big Man

Got the original blue "The Crossing" cassette after hearing "In A Big Country" here in the states back in the day. Was floored at the last track Porrohman! Never heard guitar like that before or since! My all time favorite Big Country song! This is my favorite youtube version at their zenith. Unfortunately never saw them live with Stuart but did see them with Mike Peters and they played this. Keep me posted when you come back to California again as lots of fans want to see you!

I was there to see them live in the 80's and the 90's and I can honestly say that from all the music I've listened to over the years - this is STILL the best song by far. It's got everything and it still gives me goosebumps when I play it - especially the bit after the line ' When our fate is in the hands of a demon or a god' Porrohman will be with me for ever !

This track really rocks out and haunts any forty something fan that held that Blue coloured first LP in their hand, looked at the grainy cartoon pics ala the Sunday Post and dreamt of how great it must be in Scotland, right there and then in 1983. Sublime, passionate and worth remembering thgat thge only other band at the time to do such a long track was the goth band Bauhaus with Bela Lugosi's dead. Respect!
@kilts4u216 жыл бұрын
I never tire of listening to this brilliant composition. The dueling guitars, solid bass lines and creative percussion. Stuart's voice had so much power in his delivery. But I couldn't help but notice the irony in the last stanza..."give us iron, give us hope... give us rope." Considering Stuart Adamson hung himself in a Hawaain hotel room, it's haunting. Nor can I believe that U2 was considered a better band when Big Country topped U2 in every musical/vocal category. Airplay.
