The SKINK in War Thunder FINALLY

The Skink in War Thunder is finally here! The Skink is a Canadian SPAA that has been added to the British Tech Tree in War Thunder.
The Skink is a Sherman Hull that has been fitted with a QUAD 20mm turret capable of ripping apart any aircraft that dares to get close. The only issue is, they have to be close because the cannons velocity drops of significantly over great distances.
The Skink was added at 4.7 Battle Rating where it feels a little out of place. You can't damage most ground vehicles from the sides or even from behind making it pretty defenceless against ground units. The good news is, your crew can't be straffed by small calibre machineguns from planes making you at least survivable in that setting.
Overall, it feels a bit awkward to play due to this fact and most tanks that catch you off guard even at range won't have a tough time dealing with you.
Still, it's pretty fun as a fly swatter! :)

All SPAA you mean. Nothing really except Kugel has similar armour. The rest are paper even the higher tier stuff. Skink might be the best pre-missile thunder CAS SPAA in the game IMO

Technically, it's on the Grizzly hull, which was a sub-variant of the Sherman built in Canada by Montreal Locomotive Works. The differences were primarily internal, though externally they continued to use the cast hulls even well after the welded hulls came into use.

the best thing about the skink is that its immune to machine guns, low pen cannons and overpressure so planes have to use ordnance to damage you

Not all? No* AA vehicles should be good at tank killing, I think. If you can give Mosquitos and other planes 45minute fuel load to balance them away from out flying nimble single engine fighters performance, you can balance AAs with autocannons to do just the job they were made for.

Solid shot because when the brits did tests the APHE and solid shot did just as much damage and APHE didnt magically explode in a sphere. And APHE has the chance of being a dud while losing mass and penetration performance vs solid shot.

You shot down the TIS-MA in the first match and the same player came back in an La-7 just to bomb you. Got to love the revenge kills. I haven't played in a couple of years but when I did I always found any british AA before the Falcon to be worthless. They were super hard to hit anything with and even when you did hit they just sparked and did almost no damage. Also, it looked like you got 2 assists for the I-15. I didn't even know that was possible.

You can get a kill assist the normal way, and then you can also get a kill assist by knocking out the enemy aircraft’s pilot. I don’t know if it’s intentional or a bug, but it’s a useful tactic in Air RB to get some extra rewards

The Skink is a weird boy in AA terms, but weird in a good way. Yeah, the shell velocity is low, but unlike most AA it can weather most ground fire at the ranges it's fire doesn't effectively reach, and it's often a "bomb or no-go" vehicle for planes to deal with. If it got the same penetration as the Wirblewind's cannons, it'd be absolutely perfect at it's 4.7 BR, but right now it probably belongs juuuuuust a touch lower alongside the Ystervark at 4.3. I mean, it's the same gun as the AEC AA has, right? Just more of them on a better protected chassis.

Considering how thick is bombs casing, his AP round should not be able to do anything to them(It is something like 110+mm of steel for FAB-5000), but even if that armor is modeled on the bomb there is always gaijin glitch to help small projectiles do the damage...

The Skink works pretty good for when you get 3 or 4 of the planes coming in to take out the AA, I've got 3 on the first pass and then the 4rth turned into make a second pass, He made it about half way thru the turn. It can switch between targets real quick, that's a big help. Great video. o7

You know in real life the Skink never managed to shoot down an enemy plane. Not because it was bad but because by the time it was deployed the German Luftwaffe was so depleted that none of the frontline Skink units were actually engaged by enemy aircraft. The Candians used them as infantry support vehicles & they did pretty good at it for a SPAA pulling double duty.

Also this tank teaches you to stick with you team in SPAA, you've got a little bit of armour and with the slow velocity you kinda want to be in the middle of all the CAS so you should try to stick with a larger group of you team

It’s got a really good lineup for tanks though, with the Avenger, two Fireflies (one premium), the Churchill MkVII and the Concept 3. As someone who can’t stand to play AA it’s neat, but I imagine others will get more use out of it than I will.

Odd and Phly play with really good monitors and max graphics, so that helps *KZbin compresses footage so it looks way worse than it actually is). But you can also sort of guess the most common cas planes the nations you face tend to use and judge it based on wing span and approach etc.

Should have it move to 3.3 the same BR as the M4A1 as the Skink is basically a Grizzly1(Canadian M4A1) with it's normal turret and 75mm swap for a custom made Anti-aircraft turret.

Ready wish it had more armor pen, especially on a hardened mobile platform where you could at least pen side armor. SPAA is mixed bag for me take one out after your initial death to help prevent revenge bombing spam but if you survive now in a vehicle worthless against that BRs medium and heavy tanks unless you can get a lucky engine shot unless you maybe manage to cripple gun barrel of opponent

Skink is best BR3-5~6 SPAA hands down. It's the only one I can take into AB with markers and nearly sit with impunity as they attack me. I can bait people in RB to come and strafe and soak the rounds up. It's better than SPAA which doesn't have Armour. Sure a vark/r3 bullet goes faster but in many cases the Skink is enough AND can take the hits.

That shot should have gone through out past 2km range easily, even if we assume the T-34 was one of the lucky ones to get actual welds and real armour plating.

The per round damage isn't like the m19 or whatever it is. But the survivability is far greater, and you have a higher volume of fire. Anything to keep german and russian planes from acting with impunity.

Its funny how I'm having the opposites of you. You go into a battle and everyone spawns planes: I go into battle and noone spawns planes. You go into battle and few people spawn planes for this video today: I go into battle today and have multiple battles in a row where ground rb just became air rb.
