You mention you can still top load into the non internal mags "if you only have 1 and loose rounds in your pockets" but you can also still top-load if you have multiple mags if you use the your Reload Key + Scroll Wheel which allows you to chose the mag you want to reload to... or the loose bullets

the sks is one of my main weapons for a very long time now. its truly a hidden gem and ppl sleep on it. you can rock it early to late wipe with no problem and its fully PvP capable. last wipe i got the mastery on level 3 :>

Honestly the thing I find most important when selecting a sks to use is the default round. Regular sks if I plan on shooting ps ammo and op sks if I plan on using BP since I am traditionally only going for headshots with it. Before the fire rate cap on semi auto sks was my favorite labs gun cause of the horizontal recoil pattern but now it's just not what it once was for close range. I still love it tho, just wish they would add stripper clips for top loading it quickly

I rock an SKS start, mid and late wipe. it shoots BP and you can get good at the recoil bounce and is super easy to make follow up shots. I can literally use nothing but this gun for a whole wipe it's an S tier

Another neat thing about the SKS is that when suppressed it has one of the quietest rapports of any gun in EFT, and I've found that combining that with the 7.62x39 US gzh subsonic rounds makes it so no one will ever know where you are shooting from unless they see you directly. Works very well for night raids on Woods.

Even if you do have spare mags you can still load from the top if you have loose rounds, just hold R and scroll your mouse wheel, you will be able to select the rounds and begin your top load :) helpful if you've mostly emptied your mags and want to top up your current one rather than swapping to one with less ammo

7:15 Technically, the gun was designed for the use of chargers (or stripper clips, if you like), but they still aren't implemented in EfT for a somewhat puzzling reason. After all, it's far from groundbreaking and was done in a lot of shooters before. 8:42 Since we're basically talking about a DMR here, a rangefinder might be a very useful thing to put there. 9:42 I would argue that for a semiauto only gun much suited for a sort of DMR role the use of a suppressor is recommended when possible.

0:40 horizontal recoil simulates the "recoil" - amount of force weapon gives to the shoulder. The actual variable responsible for horizontal spread is hidden. P.S. the recoil in Tarkov consists of 6 variables, 4 of them are hidden

Love the SKS early game - this wipe I sold off all my starter USEC weapons and just used the SKS with PS rounds, excellent gun to learn how to use iron sights. Then you can keep what you've learned when you unlock the OP SKS and add a scope and suppressor to start learning/working longer range. Love it, and look forward to using it early wipe again.

I really like sks a solo player because its cheap , always comes back from insurance , the suppresor is the most quiet one in the game i think and its only about 30k , you can topload BP rounds and it makes it a really good and economic gun.

I have been building this beast since launch man! so good to see someone making a video about it! My thoughts on the suppressor, if you are playing proud and loud in a squad environment just run the srvv for the lower recoil. If you are more a lone wolf like me.. spend that 30k brother on the suppressor it is more than worth the survival chance you are getting from it. The only tricky part about this build for me was getting grenadier done in a manageable amount of time xD

You can honestly do the same with VPO-136. It also skirts around some of the SKS issues with mounting sights/lights/lasers and reloading. (AK100 Handguard Prapor 1 / Bastion Skier 1) It also has better recoil stats right out of the box for the same price, Skier 1. The VPO-136 Will be cheaper to build out to the same stats for late-wipe builds too.

@@Gigabeef That's a good point. However, I believe the direct Ruble purchase early wipe may be more convenient than having to farm 3x tushonka for every rifle you run. Not to mention locking one-self to semi-auto could also have its accuracy benefits. The reload/attachment benefits outweigh the slight horizontal recoil increase I've tested/played with in my experience. Especially when needing to bring the rifle into closer engagements.

Yeah 30r is good especially when recoil is high early. I tend to use the basic Sks with irons super early on, and after that I think I skipped straight to the rfb when I got a chance - hard to remember back now!

I use two 20 round mags and if im not getting shot at I switch to my hatchet and top load the sks in my inventory. this allows you to get one extra round in the gun without dropping any ammo

I like my SKS Dodgy Marksman's Rifle: Take an OP-SKS, put it in Tapco Intrafuse furniture, add a foregrip and suppressor. Mount two optics: a PSO scope (all of them work) and on the forward mount an EKP-8-18 (Don't forget the shade!) With my preferred stock and 35 round mag, it ends up at 91 recoil and 48 ergo, which is reasonable. The PSO scopes are offset just enough, and the Kobra red dot just tall enough that they don't interfere with each other. It's good fun.

So I’ve seen a few mentions of the moe stock+pad. U can get it at a much lower price with the breacher exchange from mechanic. One powerbank or what ever the white one is and 1 weapons part, it’s easy all through the day to purchase those two items for around 15k mind u they do jump to 20k a piece which is still a deal. Buy the breacher and get yourself the moe stock + pad. Also gets u a very nice forgrip and holographic sight. Either way turn around sell the item after u take the stock n pad resells to mechanic for around 30k. Sometimes I make money in this process and get the forgrip+stock. I can’t remember if the breacher is from mechanic 2 or lvl 3.

To be honest it's also good early wipe and mid wipe, one of my best budget weapon ! Also it's one of the quietest weapon of the game when used with a supressor. You can also combine a PSO and a flat cobra (ekp 8 18) when you use the SKS socom to have a early wipe deported scope (it ugly but they works together)

You can also buy the OP-SKS body and put it on the base SKS and get the full effect that the OP-SKS gets. You can also get the dovetail mount for the OP-SKS sperate. I wanna say it's Jaeger 1 so early wipe may not be bad to keep the normal SKS's you find in boxes for slightly cheaper OP-SKS's when money is a bigger issue.

It used to be that the OPSKS Dovetail mount was mounted on the wooden body and you could buy the mount and body from Jaeger 1, but that was changed to mounting on the OP SKS itself. Very thoughtful video! I've been running around for a few raids with an AK-74 w/ PBS suppressor, Primary Arms 2.5x and PP ammo-- that's been serving me pretty well being dirt cheap and having nice high-velocity rounds that make head-tapping a little easier (even though it takes multiple hits sometimes with 5.45's shitty damage). I might give SKS a try, though (but surely something more along the lines of the extreme budget build :D). My experience with 7.62 PS AKs / Veprs (historically my go-to weapons) has been pretty mediocre this wipe: OK for PvE, not really up to the task of PvP. Maybe I should give 7.62 BP a shot despite the cost.

BP is mental, just drops everyone if you hit your shots. The biggest issue is mitigating the amount you lose when you die! The primary arms scope I get crapped on every time I use it hahaha, people really hate it but I love the 2.5x! Tarkov has a real lack of 2-3x scopes imo :) was a big 3x user in pubg

@@Gigabeef I agree: those low magnification optics are a perfect match for Tarkov engagement distances (for me, the majority of my shots are under 100m and I'd reckon 98% of shots are under 200m). I really like that reticle despite the fact that it's a bit cluttered: the aiming dots are nice and clean and the inner horseshoe is good for snap-shooting at close range. Only thing I don't like about the PA 2.5x is how much screen real estate it takes up when you're not aimed down sights, largely due to those stupid flip-up scope caps. I'm also a fan of the Eotech + magnifier combo-- I'd probably use that all the time if it weren't for the price being significantly higher. If I could get the HHS for ~20k I'd use it constantly (like I did a wipe or two ago, when people thought it was trash) but now it always seems to be like 40k+ on the flea.

Takes literally 1 good raid too unlock the OP SKS. Examine all your gear, get the Jaegar quest from Gunsmith, go Woods complete quest. Them just throw a PSO Scope from Prapor and chuck in some PS rounds and you have a decent weapon after 1 raid.

Yeah, it's close but tbh the horizontal on the Sks can't be 'bought' so to speak with the other 762 guns (akm, vpo etc). Outside of that the vpo is probably cheaper though, and the bastion is easier too use. Plus the mags are hyper cheap in comparison

@@Gigabeef It might be interesting to take the price of the top tier SKS build, and use that as a budget for a top tier VPO build, and see what stats you end up with VPO definitely has a big advantage with the standard AK 30 rounders for cheap (and faster, less finicky reloads, no dropping a bullet to reload mid mag, etc.), and access to all the AK mods (handguards, stocks, Bastion like you said, etc) so it may be interesting to see how the performance per ruble measures up. My guess is the closer you are to barebones, OP-SKS+PSO combo wins, but once heavier modding comes into play, the VPO will really start to shine

@@knightshousegames if you build both of them "top tier" the sks is objectively better cuz of the recoil the sks has a MASSIVE downside that any sight basically blinds you on the right of the screen The sks is expensive for a kinda bad gun 135k is kinda shit when you can build a 5.45 ak for like 50k and have the same stats.. the 7.62 vpo is cheap as shit easier to mod doesnt need jaeger to put a muzzle device on SKS bone stock with a PSO is hands down the best mid/long range extreme budget option vpo is better with some basic crap tossed on it SKS full build is the best in a full meta style. a 5.45 ak with an ak100 grip any 2% foregrip with a buttstock and basically any muzzle device with 45 rounders and usgs is almost 2x cheaper and gives you a full auto railgun doesnt matter if BP kills faster if you hit the head or just railgun them you turn their screen off in shitkov...

First lol. Note you can top load the detachable mags even if you have several in your rig. Just hold your reload key, with loose rounds in your pockets, and use the mouse wheel to select the rounds. Useful if you've only fired a round or two and don't want to go through the whole animation, as it's pretty long. The weapon was never designed for detachable mags, and IRL I'd judge you for changing the magazine or furniture. Rifle is fine.

Sks is better horizontal recoil but slightly harder to mod - depends what you wanna use it for really. Vpo better for close/medium range, but tbh I'd rather just trade 3x tushonka for an akm

I feel like those of us that don't focus on playing the 'meta', have always known the SKS is a great gun...my fear now is with mainliners starting to put it out there it's going to start getting considered a 'meta' and get nerfed....Really hope it doesn't cuz I've always loved the SKS, it's a good all wipe gun. It's not an early, mid, or late wipe gun, it's a all wipe gun. Best bang for your buck, PS rounds punch through lvl 4 easily, and can still put work in on T5 so unless your rocking tier 6 your still fair game against the PS. And if the shooter has BP yeah you can just hope they can't aim at that point...

The SKS is good in every regard except reload speed. If you have to reload you're pretty much dead. Even with mags. For that reason, I always rock the Vepr KM

SKS would be a godly weapon for me just if only you could change sighting range on iron sights. And as OP-SKS goes, I find 7.62 VPO better.

So what your saying is the only cost effective/actually effective gun early wipe is an SKS with PS rounds, then around level 3 traders we finally unlock the ability to purchase other somewhat effective but extremely more expensive setups to try and lose and then late game we come full circle back to the $%&$ing SKS this time with BP rounds and a fancy stock. ...

I've not played EFT in a hot minute but I do remember it being possible to change your fire button to mouse wheel up/down, rebinding a mouse key such as mouse 5 to that new fire button made a macro-less autofire. Still cheesy but according to devs if its not a macro it should be okay. That said it could be fixed by now, this sort of exploit works on many games and I've used it due to having excessive joint pains; certainly remember it giving me a bit too much of an advantage with the ADAR, SKS and even the Saiga 9 however-
