The Sleeping Tune by Gordon Duncan played by Tony McManus on my latest archtop, Big Bang.

At 2023 Woodstock Invitational Luthiers Showcase Tony McManus played few tunes on Big Bang, my latest archtop. This is his arrangement of the beautiful Sleeping Tune by great Gordon Duncan. What you hear is a mix of acoustic sound and ultra-low-impedance humbucker of my design played through the Bud amp by Henriksen Amps.
Gordon Duncan was one of the greatest pipers and composers of tunes with influences not only in Celtic music. He is famous in adapting popular music for pipes, too. The Sleeping Tune is in my opinion the best example of how well Celtic music proliferates to other styles and other instruments.
The tuning is CGCGCD.

Gordon Duncan sadly passed away tragically in December 2005. Tony McManus plays guitar.

@@bluearchguitars When I took up the bagpipe in the late 90s, Gordon was one of the big names in the piping world, famed for his succes as musical director of the Atholl Highlanders Pipe Band as well as being a very innovative solo piper. A real inspiration for us newbies. Had he been a guitarist, we'd mention him along with Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai and Brian May, and he would have made a fortune. But in those times, there wasn't much money in bagpiping outside the army, and he always had to work odd jobs to support his family in spite of being a world renowned piper. It is my understanding that this would contribute to the depression he finally succumbed to. Had he held on just a few years longer, YT videos and teaching via internet might have changed his situation. What a waste ... It is good to see that his music is still played, especially by such a master as Tony. RIP Gordon Duncan Wonderful guitar. Besides the sound, I dig the non-traditional, modern design elements, f.ex. the headstock with its straight lines. OK, I'm a mechanical engineer and therefore might have a taste that is not shared by the majority, but I do like it a lot.
