My uncle (a true guern) taught me how to drive in Guernsey. His advice was to not try and guess how close you are to the other car or to the wall, just aim for the gap. Great advice that really works.

The lack of road name signs are down to the parish they are in. For example Forest and St Saviour have next to none whereas St Andrews, Castel, St Peter Port has almost all names posted.

Lovely drive - thank you Ross. I have a problem when I come back, because in Italy we drive on the right. And often I would be happily driving along and my mum would say very calmly....You're on the wrong side of the road 🤣🤣

Has happened to me twice in two years. First incident I was down a very narrow road, in my daughters Fiat 500 and a car came the other way. I stopped and pulled over till I was almost touching the granite wall on the left and the other guy drove through and hit my door mirror. He didn't stop, just drove off. Second incident was in Town, Lower Pollet. Walking along the narrow footpath. Somebody came the other way so I found myself on the edge of the pavement. A car drove past and hit my arm with his door mirror. Didn't stop, just drove off.

Used to work at the Mallard. The restaurant was called The Menu. It might not exist anymore. I remember the small cinema, the big one was still in construction by the time. Nice memories 💪

Its a small island, space is at a premium. Some people still expect 4 lane motorways! Do some people really not know what a wing mirror is LOL? Think I will set up a wing mirror/tyre business in Guernsey!

Thank you Ross. We have driven along Guernsey roads, wide and narrow, many many times, luckily without mishap. Always love your videos. Joce NZ

👍 another great drive along video Ross, recognise a lot of the roads, still plenty fit enough, and Guernsey is small enough for me to easily walk to most places, and far more enjoyable.. otherwise let the bus driver take the stress 😃

Great exploration video. We have found that we can go to most places on the island without having to do the very small roads making it OK driving in a UK 4x4. I agree about planning. People should not be put off, start off with the beautiful coast roads and use the map to see the bigger roads crossing the islands. You will find you get to see the sights. If you decide to do tight spots I think Guernsey drivers are (through practice) more considerate than what I find in the UK so narrow roads can work a lot better.

Honestly, with roads that small, I would've though that there would be more motor bikes on the road... Good vid mate!

I have taken a car to Guernsey multiple times and generally find driving there is a pleasure. Guernsey drivers tend to be more considerate and courteous than most which helps! As Ross rightly says the speed limits ARE limits and not aspirations!! You need to drive below the stated maximum speeds in order to negotiate the narrow and twisty roads safely. Care is needed due to oncoming, traffic, pedestrians, cyclists and the very hard granite walls and banks. Apart from one scraped wing mirror my cars have survived the Guernsey roads experience without any damage!

Just got back home from recent holiday on your wonderful island. Home is the Lake District (England) so I'm used to driving on narrow roads. This time however decided to leave car at Manchester Airport and try public transport on island. I have to say bus service is excellent, on time, reasonably cheap and frequent. Yes it clips your wings a bit as regards movement around the island but it is a good alternative. Drivers are understanding and patient not like here in England.

If they don't like driving narrow lanes, they can move here to Los Angeles with its 600-lanes freeways. Some people just don't grasp how well they have it...

Great video Ross. I wonder if the quality of life on this wonderful small island could be further improved by reducing traffic. This seems to be a bit of a downside to living in Guernsey. To be a pedestrian or cyclist must be awful when the roads are small with so much traffic. Distances are short, wouldn’t the mobility be sufficient and comfortable enough using bikes, busses, and taxis? What do Guernsey people think about that? Could you do a drive-along using a bicycle someday? Thanks for the amazing impressions from Guernsey. Keep going.

I dont understand why the roads are so small. Its so unnecessary because many of those houses you are driving by very big pieces of land, The Government can slice off some of the land and pay the owners some money to expand the roads. and some of them are just forests and open lands that can be used to expand the roads
