Hello Ken and Keith, thanks a lot for selecting our product for independent review, we appreciate your thoughts & feedback! I would like to just point out one thing regarding the pilot location you mentioned. In your video, it is not broadcasting the pilot position because the Dronetag Beacon wasn't in an in-flight state (airborne). The Drone Scanner app shows it is grounded, which means you had all three LEDs green instead of blinking white. The ability to start/pause flights is one of the features for pilots when they are, for example, exchanging the batteries but still want to have the flights logged. Looking forward to your future content! Cheers

Awesome to know that you can attach the module and take off with the R-ID module not broadcast pilot location. That "feature" alone makes it worth the extra money!

I still don't think the pilot location should be publicly accessible. I understand law enforcement needing to find the pilot but what do we do if someone comes up to us with ill intent? Seeing where the drone is and the FAA tracking number should be enough to file a complaint to the FAA as they know who everyone is. I know it's not your fault and you don't make the rules. Perhaps you should have a help button in the app if you see someone approaching you looking to cause them trouble that can send an SOS out to law enforcement.

What are your personal feelings about this guys? I believe that if they are going to have so much oversight, they should give people an "out." For instance, if they allow you to get licenses for vlos or fpv flight remote id wouldn't be so bad. As it is now its waaay to much oversight. It'll be illegal to fly you dji fpv by yourself in your own backyard. Or fly your mavic three more than 300 meters out.

If it was $20-30 usd, and under 20g I might would get and use it. However costing as much as the frame itself and on top of that weighing as much as they do, I have to be honest, none of my quads will have one and probably not even my larger craft will. I have always flown safe and will continue to do so but, there is already to many laws strangling our ability to happiness and liberty. Sad thing is the pilot location is going to cause problems with distracted pilots because some yahoo followed the app and confronts the pilot.

For part 107 registration: If someone registered a DJI mini drone that does not have standard remote ID and weighs less than 250 grams pre 9/16/23, the drone will clearly weigh more than 250 grams with either of these R-ID modules attached. Obviously the registration weight is tied to the take off weight of the aircraft. Hopefully the FAA registration page accounts for this and allows us to move the once under 250 grams drone over to the more than 250 grams weight class. Also, I highly suspect adding additional weight is going to negatively impact the performance and center of gravity of every aircraft a R-ID module is attached to. This will ultimately make every aircraft with an R-ID module attached LESS SAFE. Way to go FAA...so much for safety first!
@kingisrael1532
@kingisrael1532 Жыл бұрын
This is why the 250 gram goes out the door for all models made before the Mini 3 Pro and Mini 3. What baffles me is that with modern day technology your phone can already be tracked number 1. Number 2 a simple update can rectify all the shenanigans. This is just another way to dig into our pockets the ones who truly love the craft. I bet if kite flyers which are under 250 were to tie a camera to their kites they'll be fixin to find a way to exploit that also I'm sure.
@CousinSchultz
@CousinSchultz Жыл бұрын
@@kingisrael1532 Yeah, it is a total joke and not in a funny way! I am simply going to unregister my commercial drones that are less than 250 grams and will only fly them recreationally moving forward. There is no way that I am going to stick a module on a mini and make it unsafe by messing with its center of gravity and overall performance. I'll take the money I would have spent on a module and put it towards a drone that has standard R-ID built in. Of course I will only do this when R-ID becomes required. I am still holding my breath in hopes that the 9/16/23 date gets pushed. With the FRIA situation, I do not see how they could possibly stick to the current date.

@tannerott6346

Alright I can give you a simple run down, if you tether a drone to the ground it doesn't make a difference, if you fly commercial or for profit, you have to have a part 107 to comply, for now, you can choose not to comply with remote id but come September 16 2023 the drone has to have a remote id, I'm not sure if the consequences of not having remote id are but, the consequences of not having a part 107 and operating comes with fines, for now this is pretty much the only options we have, unless the tether would supply power to the aircraft in which it would be considered an electric kite and you can avoid all the things just stated

I wonder why there isn't something really simple that just plugs via USB-C where your phone goes into the goggles where a simple Remote ID unit could simple plug in with or without using your phone. A small plastic shell with a male end on one side into the goggles and a female end if you want to plug in another device all through the same USB-C port. Hope I didn't make this confusing. If I used Solid Works I could make a simple tiny DJI Box mold that has the male on top you plug in and your off flying and compliant with Remote ID and all our favorite Karen's can keep an eye on us!

And I have to request authorization to fly if there is a local hazard.

@@stevenpeck5949 Hmm, that was indeed the way it was originally sold with mandated "Network" R-ID. However, the law that passed is (currently) only "Broadcast" R-ID. With broadcast R-ID, there will not be integration into B4UFLY nor Air Control, nor any of the other apps as it is not possible with the current infrastructure. Even today before R-ID goes into effect, if you get LAANC authorization/approval, only YOU can see your own approval. That fact continues to blow my mind. Why they are not able to display everyone's active LAANC approval on the maps within these apps is beyond me. B4UFLY does show everyone's notify and fly requests, but creating a notify and fly request is completely voluntary and not required. Whereas LAANC authorizations/approvals are required in controlled airspace. Why I am not able to see someone else's active LAANC approval/authorization when I pull up a map within controlled airspace is truly beyond me!

Any sUAV that weighs 250 grams or more must be registered with the FAA. If you fly an sUAV commercially, it must be registered regardless of weight. Any sUAV that requires registration ,must have a R-ID module on it as of 9/16/23 or have standard R-ID built in. However, anyone can go fly any sUAV in an approved FRIA without R-ID. The problem with the last option is the fact that the FAA has not approved a single FRIA as of this posting. Due to that fact, I and many others are hopeful that the 9/16/23 date will be pushed back.

Are the modules certified by FAA? Some sellers fool buyers saying that FAA does not give certification to individual modules. No, certification is required.

Correct, there's no "certification" from the FAA. However, these comply with FAA requirements for Remote ID modules.

Remote ID pisses me off more than I can say but I have to also say, that video is officially the most I've laughed at a drone video EVER. "OH NO! THAT'S NO GOOD!" 😂 I plan on complying completely with Remote ID (which is why it pisses me off) but I'm hoping (praying) the laws change to increase the compliance weight from 250g to 1KG which would mean none of my drones would need to comply. I would also like to see Remote ID only required above designated altitude like 100 feet. There is no reason for Remote ID to be broadcasting me when I'm in my backyard flying below my own tree line or worse yet, INSIDE MY HOUSE. (Yes, I have enough windows that I get satellites inside my house).

This is going to cause a lot more trouble than they think. Im not NICE at all to people, and cops who tell me I can't fly in places I can. Part 107 in hand. These Karens are going to get hurt or hurt a pilot while flying. This is going to be really bad by this time next year.

Yup, time to start open carrying with every commercial drone flight....or recreational flight with drones that are over 250 grams and therefore require registration/R-ID.

@@CousinSchultzno way I'm open carrying while flying FPV. Someone could walk up before you realize and disarm you. Concealed maybe. That said, I doubt anyone outside the hobby will even install the tracking app on their phone. Maybe some police departments, but only if it is required.

@@kurtzFPV No doubt, open carry with goggles on is completely out of the question! With that said, I do see Karen's and Daren's learning about the apps and using them. I do not see criminals doing the same. They are simply too stupid, which is why they are criminals to begin with.

This review is not very good and would lead you to believe that the drone beacon is the better choice even being more expensive. First, there is no setup required for the Bluemark. You can add your registration number into the software once you connect but this is not needed. The Bluemark also comes with Velcro to move it between drones, but this was not mentioned. The Bluemark can be Velcro'd or screw mounted. You can read the manual for the Bluemark on their website and see how this review is biased or just flat out wrong.

That's like 10% of my quad's weight and costs as much as my quad was to put together... no thank you. And then - what is it? Does it just broadcast within wifi/Bluetooth range? So someone would have to know about quadcopters, care enough to install an app, constantly have the app open in the coincidence that they can see if I am flying a quadcopter at that very moment, and be within maybe 50 feet of my quad? How absurd.
