Looks pretty impressive. I see several people freaking out about the price, but you have to keep in mind that this is first gen/early adopter structure, which means that price will probably come down as the company has success and accomplishes some better production runs. Also, consider this is basically an Amazon Echo Show or a Google Home Hub that can mount on your wall (~$200 for comparison) without exposed wiring. I won't jump at the early adopted premium cost, but look forward to this hitting a price point for the masses in time for my Christmas list (crosses fingers)

How's the Google integration vs the Alexa? We're a Google home house but love this idea.... But also feel.it needs a remote type option too
@completehomeelectronix4325
@completehomeelectronix4325 5 жыл бұрын
It has Alexa built-in, it uses skills to control things. I think Google is coming, but all are control options and outside of intercom, wouldn't really need to integrate with each other because you can link your devices to both
@prettyrickey7304
@prettyrickey7304 5 жыл бұрын
Definitely needs a remote. Don’t run into an internet issues as physical switch is now gone, it’s difficult to operate lights when said connection is broken. Having hue lights with physical dimmer switches that can serve as s back up is a must. I’ve run into a few scenarios where I lost control of lights that I did not have a dimmer connected to. Otherwise, I must say, these are brilliant. Have four and the improvements are incredible. Always working on the actual app. It’s ten times better than when I purchased with vast improvement to microphone and intercom.

I wanted something like this so I used an old phone with a magnet and metal plate. Works well as a hub so guests can use without my or their phone. Or if they don't want to use Alexa. Made mine look as clean and discrete as possible. This does look nice and has some additional functions. Price is a little hefty as my solution cost me nothing but an old backup phone.

Smart Home market adoption would accelerate if homebuilders took the same approach as car manufacturers, meaning they’d do all the tech research for the buyer and integrate solutions seamlessly into the end product (car or home). Thankfully, Brilliant is working with builders to do that. Their challenge is contending with different voice interfaces (Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit with Siri) and different network standards and automation platforms for lighting, security, HVAC, and all the other subsystems. At least someone if finally looking at that, but I still have two main issues with their system. OBSOLESCENCE - Rapid advancements in computer, networking, display, and storage technologies enable new features at lower cost each year, making slightly older products obsolete more quickly than ever before. That’s why I’ve been critical of the smart refrigerator with touch screen display on the door, when an iPad could do even more and with the flexibility of being portable. Do you really need to replace your perfectly good fridge so you can add a touch screen? Adding technology to homes has the same challenge. While appliances are designed to last a decade or more, homes are built to last much longer, at least through their 30-year mortgage. VALUE ADD? - From past experience, I’m skeptical that smart home technologies will increase the perceived value of the home itself and think it may detract. After selling a fully automated home several years ago, with about $10K invested, I was surprised when they buyer hired an electrician to remove it all. They just wanted something simpler like they were used to - so much for added value. What about the family committed to Apple? Will they justify paying a premium for a home reliance on Alexa-based technology? Ideally, Brilliant’s system would work equally well with all smart home platforms and in small apartments, assisted living facilities, and multi-story million dollar homes. If they can get there, that would be a huge plus that could help drive market adoption. While their focus is still on automation rather than AI-based smart learning, they do seem to be addressing some of the issues I write about.

Great video! Two questions... Do the slide controls have to control whatever is connected to switch it’s placed at? Or can you set the slide controls to connect to any smart light? What about temperature? Or speaker volume? Second: what happens to the dumb device that was previously using the switch if you have the single switch version? It’s just a screen now. Is power still going to the light bulb the switch was attached to?
@MichaelWilliams-jw9kj
@MichaelWilliams-jw9kj 5 жыл бұрын
You can assign the sliders to other things like lights or music volume. And the dumb switch becomes instantly smart. For the single, you can turn on and off the lights by moving your finger up and down.

Soldier Knows Best - how's the quality of sound (Internal Speaker) Ie; Alexa, Ring or Nest Cam ? Does this device eliminated Alexa on the counter top ? I'm under the impression for Brilliant to be half way decent, Sonos is a MUST. And if that's case, 349.00 +150.00 = a pretty penny....

Neil Greene Ya, I'm a home kit house. I'm not a fan if Alexa. I gave a ecobee 4 with Alexa built in a nd a dot to play around with. Lots of skills, most junk. It's not not as easy to use as Siri is. Something I really need as my 71 year old Dad lives at my house. He can't remember how to open and close a couple blinds I have using Alexa, yet no problem opening and closing the garage door with Siri. Otherwise I would be tempted to get a few of these things.

Very price prohibited at this time. $100 would be the sweet spot for single, with only a $5-$10 increase for each additional built-in switch. I'll wait a few years for price to become reasonable and for more camera brand integration. Wondering though if it can control ceiling fan controllers or Bond?

Or you know, you can use Alexa to control it which is built in. No need to get up. I get what you're saying. Which is why in general in not a big fan of these so-called Smart Speakers. Because they are locked into a room by a power cord. That is why I have a Apple Watch. I can then just lift wrist and go Hey Siri and control my home or ask questions, etc and it works everywhere I'm at including outside and away from home. Example, get home at night and want to drop something off in my backyard, instead of having to go inside my house and flip on my side house light over my gate, come back and do my moving. I can lift my wrist and just go Hey Siri, turn on outside garage light and Bam the light turns on. Maybe I'm walking back home from 7/11 down the block. As. I get close to home, I just lift my wrist and go Hey Siri, Open Garage. It's open as I'm walking up the driveway. I find it easier to control my Ecobee 4 with Siri than the built in Akexa. One thing is fore sure, you have to figure out what type of Smarthome you want to be and what products you want to use and are they supported with the type of smartphone you want. You also don't have to get everything at once. I like Smart Light Switches over Smart Bulbs for a few reasons. But it doesn't make sense to have a smart switch for like a closet light. I have a cheap glow light switch for my Mastet Bathroom light. That makes it really nice to see the switch in the dark. No need for something far more expensive and a easy swap. My 71 year old Dad us retired and home mist u Of the time. So being able to easily adjust the temp in my house with the Ecobee 3 or 4 which I have makes sense. Just like I have a Harmony remote to control all the devices in my entertainment center. To gave a single remote to control all easily instead of a pile of remotes. It makes life better for him. These are things I think about. Your whole home doesn't need to be smart. Smart bulbs don't work if you turn power off at the switch. It also makes things harder for guests. With a Snart Switch, you gave voice control. You can use the app. For homekit, it's the Apple Home app, or you can turn the lights on/off right at the switch. That's 3 options. Plus you can continue to use whatever light bulb you want. I have normal LED bulbs throughout my house. Again, things to think about.
