i've been waxing a bunch of stuff... canvas stuff sacks, canvas tarps, and a real old canvas and leather european military back pack of some sort. been buying used candles in bulk at a real inexpensive 2nd hand store, melting them down, painting on the wax with inexpensive cheap paint brush and then finalizing it into the canvass with an automotive heat gun. even the leather soaks up the wax. talk about making a difference in the rain. took some of the gear out in the rain with no water penetration what-so-ever. really made the old back pack nice. carried the heavy canvas tarps on horseback to camp. next i'm looking for a nice HD cotton canvas brimmed bush hat for rainy weather and i'm going to heavy wax it. watched again / enjoyed and already thumbed up! thx

I just rub it on vigorously, then gently melt it into the fabric with a hair dryer. Make sure you put something inside the item to stop it transferring through to the other side of the item, trousers for example. Then let it cool. Then heat the fabric again with a hair dryer, heat the wax briefly then rub it on again. I then heat the wax on the material very briefly just as it starts to melt into the fabric I stop. So far it’s made everything I’ve done it to in this fashion completely waterproof. Heavy duty waterproofing on any item of clothing? It won’t work on synthetics....so Item has to be a heavy duty cotton. I will then use Barbour jacket wax. They sell it in big tins. Do the same as the Fjallraven Greenland wax. Works perfectly. All the best Dean Wales, UK.

Get a dedicated wax iron from goodwill. $5. I double duty mine for my snowboards. Turn it on max temp for 15 minutes and wipe with a paper towel after each use if you don’t want cross contamination of waxes.

Bit late coming to the party! But I wax my Barbour and my wax cotton leggings the same way. The boss (bless her xx!) gets a bit grumpy if I don’t clean her hair dryer after use🙂 kind regards from across the pond in deepest Dorset England

I just bought a down coat with g1000 outer. If i wax it, should i be concerned about the wax ruining the down inside the coat ? Great gideo, thanks for the insite

how can you prevent that it gets spotty i have som lighter g1000 shorts but they get realy spotty when i wax them mostly of spots with zippers under it en bags
@ColoradoCamper3 жыл бұрын
I would try putting something soft inside the shorts like a folded towel or blanket. The spots are from a lot of wax rubbing off due to the seams and zippers underneath the layer you are waxing. I experience this same thing, but my pants are so dark it’s barely noticeable.

does the wax need to dry after melting it into the fabric? if so how long roughly will it take to dry?
@flatmoon63592 жыл бұрын
Yes,to help to set into fabric,reproofing companies recommend this on Wax jackets,so this probably applies to this. Leave in a warm room overnight.Made a small day bag out of an very old Barbour and did this method shown on video,no problems.

Fjallraven generally recommend using an iron as it sets the wax deeper into the fabric.

I have some garments and tarps that have lost their ability to repel water. Do you like wax better than spraying with Scotch Guard? Does it last longer? More durable?
@ColoradoCamper5 жыл бұрын
I have never tried scotch guard, and I have only used wax on garments that are already wax-impregnated from the manufacturer. Sorry I can't be of more help.
@jessemclaughlin96802 жыл бұрын
Wax only really binds to natural fibers, although it will bind to natural/synthetic blends like g1000.

If I have a brand new jacket with g1000 fabric, do I need to wash the new parka first or can I just wax it? Also I picked up an Otter wax Fabric care which is a different brand then what you got, I couldn't fund that brand at a decent price here in USA some sellers were asking $25-$35 plus shipping for a 2.5 ounce bar. While I was able to pick up a 5oz bar of Otter Wax for $19.99 double the size for basically half he price. Otter Wax had a 4 1/2 Star review. Thanks for your response.
@ColoradoCamper6 жыл бұрын
No you don't need to wash your new jacket. In fact I would recommend that you avoid washing it unless it's absolutely necessary. From the factory it has a very good impregnation, so you can wax areas that you want to have additional weather protection. I'm sure the otter wax will work fine. The Greenland wax is rather expensive, but I have a Fjallraven store nearby so I could grab some without paying for shipping.

Lazy people complain about rubbing the wax bar on the jacket. It don’t look too difficult to me as seen in your video. And finished product looks blended.
@ColoradoCamper6 жыл бұрын
I don't think I ever said it was difficult. It's tedious, but not difficult. Maybe you should try it yourself before commenting, unless you are intentionally trying to look ignorant.
