@@seanwallaceseanie40 100% correct, but they did put out tunes in that timeframe with similar flavour... gish sounds a lot like the grunge going on in seattle at the time and was released sometime between Facelift and Nevermind so I give people a pass when they call pumpkins grunge. But they are a chicago band not a seattle band so it kinda rules them out.

This era of music was amazing. Short lived, but amazing. The wall of sound they have on Siamese Dream is a powerhouse. His soft whispers and cat like screams only add to it. Perfect perfect perfect album.

Hey! Same! 2 of my favorite bands. In Neil Pearts book Travelling Music, he mentions that during the 90s he would play music before a show for the audience that either, was appropriate for what they were doing or music of the time that he enjoyed. One of the bands he name dropped was the Pumpkins!

Agreed, great album. My copy of the double album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness, from back in the day, is in pretty rough shape. Had to take it to a freind with a cd cleaning machine to get it not to skip in a couple places on the Dusk To Dawn cd. Plays like a dream again, and I am back to punishing my upstairs neighbors with sheer sound ejaculation.

Love women in rock bands from this era? Check out my two favorite rock goddesses, the two Kims. Gordon and Deal. Kim Gordon -- Sonic Youth; Kim Deal -- Pixies and the Breeders. Also bass players like D'arcy. The 90s, on reflection, were a good moment for women bass players. (Btw, new subscriber here, but loving your reactions. Helps me experience music all over again for the first time, plus discover new things. Keep it up and thanks for taking the time to do what you do!)

Mr. Jamel, I've not encountered your videos before today but came across this one was it was featured on the KZbin front page. However it was wonderful to watching the generations younger than mine enjoy the music I grew up with. Siamese Dream was an album I routinely stole from my brothers room, on penalty of death, because it was that good and I enjoyed it that much. It has such a more rough and sound to it and is my second favourite album of their next to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Cheers to you for giving this band a try!

Best SP album in my opinion. People rank MCIS higher than SP but I always liked SD a lot more. Its hard, sweet, dreamy and nihilistic at the same time. And the mixing makes it even better. Feels like you're entering another dimension or another time, it really feels like early 90's to me . Of course i m a big SP fan and I like all of their work (actually..even BC's solo albums) but really, can't help but feel SD is their top game

SP, like all the best "alternative" bands of the time, had such a unique sound unto themselves. When a new song by them would come out, the first time you'd hear it, you'd be like, "Is this the new Smashing Pumpkins?" Just based on the intro. Like the Afghan Whigs, the Pumpkins had their own sounds. When you heard it, you knew.

Very good choice of songs of theirs that you’ve gone for in your four-part reaction. I would also hugely recommend Bury Me from their 1st album plus Geek USA and Silverfuck from their second. All very heavy tracks with excellent drumming.

For this album don't be fooled by the video. Lead vocals - billy Corgan Lead guitar - Billy Corgan Bass guitar - billy corgan D'arcy and James could barely play, so billy played thier parts in the studio. Billy liked that they were pretty.
