I was 12 or so when I first got the Siamese Dream tape cassette. It was my favorite thing I had ever heard at that time and is still my favorite album. Good luck to you and your family.

Fool enough to almost be it Cool enough to not quite see it Doomed Pick your pockets full of sorrow And run away with me tomorrow June We'll try and ease the pain But somehow we'll feel the same Well, no one knows Where our secrets go I send a heart to all my dearies When your life is so, so dreary Dream I'm rumored to the straight and narrow While the harlots of my perils Scream And I fail But when I can, I will Try to understand That when I can, I will Mother weep the years I'm missing All our time can't be given Back Shut my mouth and strike the demons That cursed you and your reasons Out of hand and out of season Out of love and out of feeling So bad When I can, I will Words defy the plan When I can, I will Fool enough to almost be it And cool enough to not quite see it And old enough to always feel this Always old, I'll always feel this No more promise no more sorrow No longer will I follow Can anybody hear me I just want to be me When I can, I will Try to understand That when I can, I will

Siamese Dream is one of the finest examples of 90s rock. I love this album so much, it’s easily one of the best albums to come out that decade. If you like the way his voice sounds and the way he kind of breathes out the words, listen to Soma from this album. It’s brilliant.

You just experienced my favorite song of all time, since high school, and I turned 41 just 4 days ago. I think your appreciation of it the first time around deserves props because like you said, it's a DEEP song. They may be my favorite band, but I listened to them for a while before really finding their depth. But that was mainly due to being 15 years old, and not having developed a real refined appreciation for the intricacies of such an incendiary and epic song as "Mayonaise". (Thank you for spelling it right too lol) But I could see you grabbing onto and readying yourself in prep for certain licks. Thanks man, and the full respect to your musicality and open mindedness on these alternative rock plains. Stellar digs.

I'm so glad I found this. Really cool to see someone experience the Smashing Pumpkins for the first time. I've been a fan for most of my life and this is probably my favorite song. Billy's voice is ethereal and is a great contrast to his heavy guitar playing. When you learn the lyrics and the back story of how he grew up it really makes the music that much more meaningful. Can I also suggest checking out Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness album.

Thirdeye147 Good question. I remember playing it clean with a Gibson Explorer through a Peavey Express 112 amp with a Boss Flanger, an EHX Big Muff and a Crybaby Wah. The song was tuned down a half step, but drop D?...it sounds it, but I can barely remember yesterday (let alone 26 years ago 😂). Hopefully, Djo Fortunato can shed some light on the situation. 🍻
@KyleS.1987
@KyleS.1987 4 жыл бұрын
@@thirdeye147 Billy's in standard a half step down playing all the lead guitar, but James' guitar is tuned Eb Bb Bb Gb Bb D. It's a unique tuning I've never seen anyone else use, and it's a big part of what makes the clean sections and chords so pretty. But you can get pretty close if you just play it in Eb standard tuning.

These songs really call to you to be immersed in the sound and experience. I used to be so cranky and ruthless when someone would interrupt or disturb this flow. LOL

The word 'Underated ' appears often in these comments- probably because it's so true with this band. This song is probably my favourite ever song, even with stiff competition from all other songs on the planet that rock from geniuses such as Zeppelin, Beatles, Hendrix, Chili Peppers etc, I still come back to this one song and it never gets old!

The Smashing Pumpkins are my all-time favourite band. Their body of work is amazing to see, especially the transformations over time. But for me, the best part of SP in the 90s was their aesthetic, the imagery they used for their videos and photos are what inspired my own creativity in art and beyond.

Jamel_aka_jamal, one of the things that makes this song so great is that after the Smashing Pumpkins broke up, the lead singer, Billy Corgan, and James Iha, the other guitarist, didn’t speak to each other for over 10 years. Then about three years ago Billy Corgan was doing a concert and invited a “guest” musician to play this song with him. No one was expecting James Iha to be that guest musician; when he showed up on stage the crowed went crazy. Here’s the link to that video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2O2YWd6dpWAhKs

Just a brilliant album, a brilliant decade for this band. Glad that i was alive and growing up with this music. If any band needs lyric videos- it's this one. Billy is an incredible poet on top of all of his other talents.

Fun factoid: that noise the guitar makes in the chorus, is from a faulty guitar that just does that noise at particular points when playing, and they decided to use it in the song instead of getting another guitar.
