Yeah, I think it partially depends on what part of the tour it is. If you can catch SP in the beginning, his voice probably isn't as worn out. That's common with all vocalists though. Corgan's singing was really bad live for Siamese Dream, but I think he started to improve around Mellon Collie. There's an old acoustic live recording of them playing "Mayonnaise," where Corgan's voice cracks during the high note. You can hear Billy and James laugh it off, which I thought was pretty cool at the time.

I still hope and pray for the day that I can experience this song live. Not sure why it's never been regularly on setlist rotation, it's literally one of the best songs they ever made. Loved it from the moment I heard it back in early 1996 on my 1979 cassette single.

@@makaylarose3058 I think they mean she’s perfectly playing in the pocket. The bassline is simple but who cares? It sounds sweet and is executed nicely. Not to mention, the bass really drives this particular song.
@Sullywoo2 жыл бұрын
If darcy was a dude he wouldn’t be judged as harshly. Plenty of bass playing guys who just strum the same note to keep the time. Adam Clayton ( u2) Michael Anthony ( van halen) gene simmons (kiss) lots more. We will never get to hear her real talent as she played what she was told to play by B.C though she often, during live performances, deviated away from the studio bass lines, which I though we’re more melodic but fulfilled the function of a pocket player

I've never heard this live, so I was excited to hear/watch this. "Set the Ray to Jerry," was definitely 1 of my favorite Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness b-sides. I did see them that year, right after JC was arrested. Whomever was the replacement drummer sped everything up and not in a good way. However, this sounds really good and very close to the original drumbeat.

Man, people really were down on Matt Walker at the time as a poor replacement for Jimmy. And sure, everything felt different without Jimmy there, and the secret sauce was missing. But you can see that he's a great player and he was being put in an absolutely impossible situation -- expected to fill in for a generational talent at the height of the band's fame and just go do a stadium tour of 2-hour shows playing songs he was never part of creating. He deserves a lot of credit for helping the band get through this time.
