No joke, this Bodies Laughing one was on Colin’s ‘In Rainbows’ studio blackboard photo. It started as another Radiohead tune like Skirting on the Surface & Open the Floodgates (and probably a couple others).

This is perfect for Thom. Playing small venues, with his strongest instrumentalist and a new and exiting drummer. Simplifying everything by operating in a 3 peace band, and not having to play those old Radiohead tunes over and over, nor having those high expectations for every release. Now it's all about the moment, the art and being productive.

@@snagglesnorf Not exactly. Dollars And Cents has a more jazzy feel to it, and this one is closer to Talk Show Host by Radiohead and Vitamin C by the German Krautrock band Can (you can listen to it, or you may know it, as well; also I'd recommend you to listen to another track by them called Splash, and their main hits). Though, Can draws heavily from Jazz music as well - at least, in terms of performing the songs and overall chaotic presence happening on stage.

It's hard to imagine that Radiohead wrote and recorded Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief from 1999-2003. Three different, acclaimed records in four years! Knowing Radiohead as they are now, it seems insane to think they managed Kid A/Amnesiac and the challenges there, toured both albums through 2001, then came back in 2002 with like 15 new songs.

So far, all the live versions of these new Smile songs are leagues ahead the Studio versions. Honestly, all their songs sound groovier and alive when played live. I recall being unimpressed with the first Smile album, until I saw them live. The songs truly come alive. It's a shame that in the Studio versions, they've been unable to capture that energy.

It's far from the first time stuff like this has happened, but I absolutely agree. This one has real momentum and such a great groove. I don't get that from the studio version. Too much has been changed and I think it's lost something as a result.

@@skywipe1949im sure they have two interpretation of this song, the studio one is most likely to be a breakdown from all the album to feel kinda acoustic vibe too

@@hdzziin I like the album version but it doesn't grip me like this one. I'm sure a studio recording of this arrangement exists somewhere but we might never hear it unfortunately. Probably not soon anyway.

@@skywipe1949 im pretty sure thom would try to switch up between electric guitar and acoustic during shows but i feel what you mean tho
