I rode the Smiler when I was on holiday in England back in 2014. The accident defiantly put a damper on things. Don't tear it down, just make sure this doesn't happen again. AWESOME COASTER!! Next time I'm there will definitely ride it again.

The British media outlets continue to batter Merlin for little reason. They have had a vendetta with Alton Towers and other Merlin parks for years. It’s a cheap story to milk for exposure and recognition. It’s so easy to blow a story like this out of proportion and they did just that, and so because of the huge influence the media has on the general public, the gullible sods that they are, they also make assumptions and judgements about the industry. Couldn't agree more! I'm from the States with virtually no chance of being able to ride this and it still bothers me to no end the demonization of this coaster. Meanwhile Disneyland's Thunder Mountain had an incident where a man died and 10 people were injured due to "improper maintenance" and yet to this day people keep happily riding it. Even when it made the news, there were no calls from the public for Disneyland to tear the ride down, not like there was with the Smiler.

This is the best ride ever made. I would of went on it when it first opened but the que was 4 hours so didn't have enough time. went to Alton towers last Friday and got to go on it 5 times in one day and I loved it. the only thing I noticed they didn't have on what I seen In this video is all the projection when you get inside, there was only a strobe light but still enjoyed the ride!

@@DJRAV3woof no, he means the full one and by the full one im quite sure he means the: 45 minute main soundtrack 10 minute correction block soundtrack 10 minute station soundtrack 5 minute exit corridor soundtrack and 5 minute shop soundtrack to clarify, the only way to get all of that is to get another person (who would have to be really trusting you dont use it publically since they would get into trouble for that) that got it off a website years ago before merlin and IMAscore took it down

Its 2020 and people still think it shouldnt be around THE CRASH WAS 5 ALMOST 6 YEARS AGO . After it happend Alton towers asked the employes to hand out free mearch of the smiler to try and get people to ride it . Alton towers spent 18million to build this and probibly another 2million to repair it and make it safer . What els do you ask of them to put 1 cart on at a time?! No that ride can take up to 5 carts so put 4 carts on it not 1 . If they did then the Line would be over 6 hours long since it’s so popular. They never put 5 carts on it cause they don’t have 5 carts due to the crash Plus . 👏🏻IT👏🏻WAS👏🏻A👏🏻HUMAN👏🏻ERROR👏🏻 SO THEY DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO MAKE THE RIDE SAFER BUT THEY DID . The thing Alton towers care the most about is safety and they got rid of the employee who was responsible and it was a accident (obviously) but Alton towers couldn’t take any chances since it cost them 5million (and that’s pounds not dollars )

It’s sad how some people may be against this ride when it wasn’t even the Coasters fault or Merlins... It was all human error, when the Coaster with the people in it stopped on the lift hill in the crash video the censors On the track did that.. Because it felt the stalled cart on the track so it gave the operator a warning, but Unfortunately the operator ignored it and Made the coaster continue up the hill. And I can assure you, this ride is completely safe in standards. You don’t have to worry about it.

This ride's theming has a very Orwellian feel to it. You normally don't see rides like that. I kinda like it, actually. Problem is I don't live anywhere near the UK, so I'd have to plan a visit to Alton Towers as part of a larger trip - which would likely be part of a US invasion of Robot Wars Live. Only other thing is that they REALLY need to stop operating this ride so carelessly. The most recent incident involved operating the coaster in 46 MPH winds when Gerstlauer only rated it for 33 MPH winds MAX. The one before that was caused by the ride crew manually overriding the safety features. The ride itself is reliable, but something's up with the operators.
