I've just found this video and I want to say thank you for it. "The Queen Is Dead" is a big hole in my collection, but copies of the original pressing in great condition are really expensive as far as I've seen. That's why 've been wondering about the quality of the Rhino reissue, which is currently the easiest to get. After seeing your review, I've decided to order it. Thank you again!

Hatful of Hollow was mostly Peel session recordings that were later rerecorded. It also contained their first single and two current singles. How Soon Is Now was the b-side of William, It Was Really Nothing. It was later released as a single but didn't do that well. It didn't even chart in the US. So if you do buy Hatful of Hollow most of the songs are different versions. Enjoyed the video.

Hello Ron, Being a longtime Smiths and Morrissey collector I had to jump in on this one. First off, nice job with your comparison. I have all of the reissues as well as the first pressings of both the UK and US releases and a few Japanese. That is excluding my test pressing of the debut. I actually bought both the UK and US releases because in the eighties these were the only two countries that we had to do a comparison test. It seemed that in the US everyone heard How Soon Is Now on the radio before Meat Is Murder was even released. That was the song that got them airplay back then. Charming Man also got a little of airplay too. I still remember buying the UK copy and not being able to find 'How Soon'. I was thoroughly confused. But I then heard through the Smiths fan grapevine that they released it on the US and Canadian copies only. If you really dig the band I suggest to grab Louder Than Bombs and Hateful Of Hollow. Hateful has a few B-Sides and some great Peel Sessions tracks. 'Bombs' concentrates more on the singles releases. Lots of B and A sides for the fans who could not afford to buy all of the UK or US singles. Good to see a fellow Smiths fan ~ Rob/Boston Here is one of my older Smiths videos if you care to watch it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKS0n3WsnL6Vnbc

Paneeks1960 cool, I see you are a BIG fan, great! i really like the band and now with some good sounding vinyl i can really dig into the records. I do have, Louder Than Bombs, but trevor did not have that to compare, I don't think it was a UK release and Rhino reissued the UK LPs. I do need the Rhino of , Hateful Of Hollow to get, how soon is now. thanks for watching and your great comments.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. This would make for a great series of videos: new Iron Maiden reissues, new Zeppelin reissues, Springsteen, Lennon, as well as the upcoming Bowie and Queen.

Pebktc who is remastering the Bowie titles I was watching A Michel Fermer video last night he was saying a few years back when everyone thought vinyl was dead except for us folks the big record companies had no interest in reissuing their own records and so they let Rhino and a few others reissue their titles but today with the resurgence they feel they can make money from records again and so now comes the digital to vinyl

Hatful of Hollow is a great compilation. Lovely acoustic version of Back to The Old House, and my preferred version of These Things Take Time..though not so keen on the version of Reel Around the Fountain.

Ron- This was fantastic! Thank you for taking the time to make my request a reality! I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts. I think you will really like "Hatful of Hollow," it is a great compilation and the John Peel session tracks are stellar. Also, If you really like "How Soon is Now?" you might consider finding it on a 12" single (45rpm). I have a few Smiths 12" singles and they sound pretty spectacular.

Jacob Murphy You are most welcome Jacob, and thank you for sending the records so I could have this great listening experience. I just checked ebay prices for the 12' of "How Soon is Now?" they are the same or more than the Rhino reissue of "Hatful of Hollow," I will most likely get "Hatful of Hollow," and do regular searches for a 12' of How Soon is Now? I really enjoyed listening to the Rhinos and was delighted as to how good they sounded.

Acidhouse house Now the UK originals will definitely sound better than a domestic release maybe start with one Rhino reissue to see the difference first. Then you can let us know which one wins the shootout thanks for watching and your great feedback

Ron Thank you again for another very good review of a Re-Release. I also cannot listen to much early Digital Recordings as I get irritated and fatigued by the music as it is just so badly done.I am going out today to my Local Record Store.Only a 130 miles away. As Walmart among others have driven all the Independent Record stores out of business here.And now nobody sells music as the internet has taken hold.Thank God for the resurgence in Vinyl it is saving the small guys again.Sorry about going off on a tangent. The First Album I will get from the Smiths Rhino releases will be Hat full of Hollow.Then the rest in order. How Soon Is Now? Today and I cannot wait to get home and put them on my ProJect RPM 1 with the new Ortofon M2 Blue and SpeedBox S. The sound is just what the doctor ordered.By the way every review you have done that I have checked out for myself has been right on.You piss me off sometimes when you find a recording that tops My Mobile Fidelity Release. But what can i say a better recording is a better recording.Peace My Friend! Please Keep Doing These Video's The Truth Hurts.

Vinyl Therapy & Audio thanks Buddy for the great feedback and it also makes me mad mofi does not make better sounding records they are good, but they should be better if they are half speed mastered
@RocknRonni9 жыл бұрын
Vinyl Therapy & Audio hey I just came across this review mofi just reissued the 1st Santana on a 45 rpm the first 2 Santana records were reissued by MOFI a couple a years back 1/2 speed mastered. I was at a hi fi show in Jacksonville, in a great sounding room, I noticed they had the new Santana mofi first lp and I asked them to play it the fellows spinning the vinyl told me it sounded terrible so I bought Abraxas and found out what they were talking about. So now I am intrested to purchase the newly released mo fi 1st Santana at 45 rpm so trying to do my due diligence before purchase. On the web I came across this site . www.better-records.com/product.aspx?pf_id=santaabrax_mofi_debunked

Ron Beaudry I have been subscribed to his store for ever and he will never get my business. I trust him about as much as the guy that sold Robert Johnson on the Crossroads.Know what I am saying. Only he would sell the devil on his own soul.By the way My Local Record Store didn't have any of the Smiths Rhino Remasters. The Owner did give me a couple MOFI Tee Shirts for free.I wound up with some great old vinyl that was in Mint condition. Alan Parsons I Robot original pressing Mint for just $25.00. My hands were shaking all the way home. Also picked up New Roger Waters on QRP. What a beautiful set. Also got Al jJarreau All Fly Home on MOFI 1978. Done for the month or I get a divorce for all we have. I can't afford that either,Plus she is really good to me.Peace My friend!

Ron - just found this info on Bowie reissues: "The label has confirmed to SDE that as far as the vinyl is concerned “everything is remastered from analogue except for a couple of tracks on Re:Call where we had no analogue source available.”

Hopefully mastered from the analog tape to the lacquer that's true analog that's how they used to do it and that's how the good ones still do it but sorry to say the big record companies have way too much invested all their mixing boards are digital so what I've seen from the big guys is digital Records lately but we do have hope they did make the Beatles mono box from the analog tape

Can you do one on the solo Morrissey albums if you have any? I've seen some represses and don't know how they stand up to the originals.
@nadaworldrecords8 жыл бұрын
I can tell you as owner of a copy of the Rhino reissue of the self titled 84' album, "This Charming Man" is notably absent. So in order to get that version, you'd have to either 1: shell out some bucks for the original and hope it's mint, or 2: buy one of the "greatest hits" compilations.

Hi Ron, Seeing the differences in the photo of "The Queen Is Dead" reminds me of the two copies of George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" albums. I have the original 1970 pressing and the photo is black and white background on the cover. I bought the late '80s pressing, I bought it in 1989 and the cover is brown print and white background. Whats also weird is believe it or not the LPs still had the original Apple label on them and it said "Mfg by Apple Records" at the bottom of the label, when the label should have been Capitol. The inner cover papers were white instead of orange like the original and at the bottom of the inner paper where the credits are it said manufacture by Captiol Records and it had the EMI USA.
