It's fascinating that the hazelnut wafer factory is in the middle of Vienna. This was common in the past, but today it is far too expensive for most manufacturers of anything, whether it be food or tools or furniture.

It's not just land costs but noise and traffic bylaws associated with factories. Wouldn't be an issue 100 years ago when factories were just day operations. Now they are 24/7/365 a year operations just to maximize efficiency

Land costs in major in cities has reached a point where it's no longer viable. Although the organisation may own the land, the taxes are proportional. Then you have workers parking spaces, congestion etc, it's no longer viable.

25:00 “The workers have an emotional bond to their product too”, but they DO NOT WEAR GLOVES, even the female supervisor, Julia Roth, cutting the dough, and now picking and spreading the pretzels with her bare hands! And, later on those same bare hands are handling the sealed/bagged pretzels and she’s putting into boxes.

Fascinating stuff. FunFact: The 3 largest tomato factories in the world are in America, and belong to the same company. They only have 70 workers per shift/rotation, and they alone, produce three times the production of Italy as a nation.

That bothers me a bit too. They're probably all clean people but when you're producing product destined to be consumed by other people, cleanliness has to be part of quality control. Hands touch a lot in the course of a day. Some might think it's an anal attitude to have but I don't give a damn.
