How much money did the AWA World Champion make compared to WWF or NWA World Champion. Guys like Hogan and Flair received national TV exposure and drew crowds all over the country. I think that's what Jake was talking about when referring to a "Word Heavyweight Champion." Most people in the 80's didn't have ESPN to know who Curt Hennig was. Rick Martel held the AWA World Title too. Does the average wrestling fan refer to Martel as a former "World Heavyweight Champion?"

There was a great Piper's Pit in Philly with Mel Phillips. Not sure what Piper knew at that time, if anything, but watching years later I was hoping Piper would deliver a potato.

Everyone forgets Curt did hold the AWA World Heavyweight Championship in the mid 80s prior to jumping to the WWF in 88. Iirc, Hennig lost the title to Jerry Lawler.

No one forgets, most people don't recognize AWA as big of a promotion compared to WWF or NWA/WCW. The average person knew the top guys in other promotions like Flair and Hogan because they were all over national television. Did AWA even have national tv exposure or just regional?

Spivey was lucky with his punching. Usually it's hard to defend a takedown from a legit wrestler like that; being tall is going to be a liability when the wrestler goes for the double leg, single leg or whatever he wants. With that said Adonis got what he deserved.
