Was listening on Spotify but as a resident bisexual I had to come to the video just to leave a comment on Sweeney’s take. I get if someone says gay can mean bisexual because gay is often used as a blanket term for anyone who is not straight, but homosexual is not used for bisexual people because it makes no sense. Like I had this friend who called herself a lesbian while dating a guy she was very happy with, and that makes no sense, because being lesbian implies exclusivity. Gay is like the only universal term I feel bc culturally it’s been broadened to mean pretty much all LGBTQ people in a way that homosexual and lesbian are not. Like he literally agreed to heterosexual being exclusive but can’t realize that homosexual is just the opposite end of the spectrum, and bi/pansexual covers the spectrum between the two points.

Sween is largely in the wrong. Yes, there are people in the LGBTQ+ community who say they are "gay" even when their just Trans, Bi, Pan, etc... however, they are the exception, not the rule. The terms Homosexual and Heterosexual typically encompass their exclusive groups of people. Bisexuality is a term in and of itself, just like the others. It is a linguistic umbrella term for the LGBT+ community. Some bi people say they're gay, some poly people say they're gay, some pan people say they're gay, even some straight trans people refer to themselves as gay because it is an umbrella term in the minds of many similarly to the term queer. But when you get into the specific words such as bisexual, or pansexual, or poly sexual, or demi sexual then you have to use the specific word. It's inaccurate to say that a bi sexual person is a homosexual in the same way that it is inaccurate to say that bisexual is a pansexual or a polysexual. Similarly some people don't refer to themselves under the gay umbrella and much prefer to be called specifically what they are.

I was unaware that the "Bi-Superman" was actually Superman's son. All I've heard is people say that it's Superman. Personally I've just been tired of people taking pre-established characters and changing them in ways that the new writer thinks is somehow better. I've always been of the mindset "Just make a new character." which is what they did with Spiderman. Peter Parker and Miles Morales are two completely different people, but they're both Spiderman. If you make a new character, you can basically do whatever the fuck you want, without getting rid of the old one. I compeletely understand where sween is coming from. The reason the argument even rose in the beginning is because of Derrick and Chris' understanding of the english language. Sweeny believed that accumulation of terms into a separate category usually retains the qualities of its parts, and that categorization in sexuality or chemistry are the exception. Derrick and Chris understand that such an accumulative category described above usually DOESN'T retain the qualities of its parts, and things like ligers or skin color are the exception. Once there is an empirical study on how categorization works in the human mind that proves Sweeny's way of thinking is the exception is done, there's no telling who's victim to this logical fallacy. However, this study sort of provides itself through all the other youtube comments that disapprove of Sweeny's sentiments and his line of thinking.

So bisexuality was very likely not viewed upon, and probably was looked upon as a "gay excuse" people haven't been very accepting of them, through out all of history, so yeah it probably did come later. A game intro that I think is an honorable mention is bioshock infinite. The 1st chapter is from the light house all the way to the battle with the songbird. The intro to Columbia and the knowledge of “this is a bioshock game” really plays at you wondering when will things go wrong. The subtle racist undertones of the fair grounds, how people really worship com stock. To the shock of the raffle where people around where talking about how it’s the best event each year and presenting you with the icky choice that leads to that classic bioshock ohhhh shit everything wants me dead.
