I really can't wait for Mirrorlands to properly make it to North America. I have seen it in Russian, and I must say it's the best of the series. I happen to be just as much a fan of Wizart Animation as I am their Snow Queen franchise and eagerly await for them to drop the first teaser for their upcoming film "Hansel and Gretel".... (seriously guys, supposedly the entire budget of ALL 4 Snow Queen movies COMBINED? ...hopefully that Robert Lence (former Disney legend) really has some magic up his sleeves. I know that there are those who can't help but assault this franchise by comparing it to films that had 95x the budget, but let's keep in mind that the first "Snow Queen" was created by NOOBS!! If anything it would be pretty embarrassing for a 90+ year old mega-billion dollar corporation to suddenly LOSE to a bunch of noobs producing a film with nothing but pocket change. All things considered, what they DID produce was actually quite impressive. If anything both films should be treated with equal respect. That said, I happen to feel that the first Snow Queen film left a bigger impact on me, and I felt that the characters of the film had better development, and the story had much better continuity. Despite the songs and animation being clearly more polished, Disney's Frozen felt very flat and disjointed as a narrative and had one of the most disappointing character developments that I've ever seen Disney THROW AWAY. I liked how they introduced Kai's character. I liked how Gerda developed through the story. I like how Orm's conversion shaped his and Gerda's relationship. Moreover, I am MOST impressed with how the characters of The Snow Queen transformed as each installment was created. Orm ultimately became a goofy comic-relief character that you actually kind of sympathize with since it was very relatable to see how the world can sometimes feel like it's turned it's back on you and how that can sometimes make it hard to make the right choices. Snow Queen 3 and 4 expand upon the character development of Kai, Gerda, and Alfida (very impressed with these developments) and most impressive The Snow Queen herself gets an amazing character boost. Seriously, if the first film had the Snow Queen from Mirrorlands, 2012 Snow Queen might have actually been a near-masterpiece.
