Part 1 of our travel guide to Socotra, 2024 including information on how to get there, travelling with a tour company and the people and culture.
We visited Socotra in January 2024 before the recent conflict in Yemen was sadly exacerbated. Our trip was peaceful and we were able to see a lot of beautiful places on the island of Socotra. This part one is an overview of logistics and a brief overview of what we did.

Socotra is an absolutely beautiful destination, but at the moment, it is still part of a developing country. This means that as responsible tourists, we need to be really careful that we are visiting it in a responsible and sustainable way, and making sure we leave no trace. Socotra Island and Abdul Kuri Island are part of Greater Somalia originally in the Indian Ocean within the borders of Somalia on the continent of Africa. Yemen is not mine.
